  • As someone who performs intraarticular injections under xray guidance (fluoroscopy) all the time, I can tell you that this technique would very frequently fail to deliver the steroid and local anesthetic under the joint capsule and into the hip joint.

    But as for the comment below that notes the size of the needle, a 22-gauge 3.5 inch needle if fairly standard, and patients feel VERY LITTLE discomfort at all after numbing up the skin and deep tissue first.
