That's the DUMBEST idea I've ever heard of. I can't render new wavefront obj meshes in a browser, I cant edit a 4 gb 3D video on the internet, I can't play Silent Hill 4 on Google Chrome. THIS IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE STUPIDEST IDEA I'VE EVER HEARD OF.

It's, essentially, a simplified netbook. That's all netbooks were intended for. Chromebook (meaning, a netbook running Chrome OS) just takes it a step further.

To those complaining about only having Internet capabilities (what if the Internet is down, I wanna play my games, etc. etc.) THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT. It's designed for those who that's all they want. If you want to do more than just browse the Internet, it's not made for you then, it's made for those who DON'T want to do other stuff on it. At all. Simple. It's not for you, which I know is a difficult concept for many of you to understand. But it is perfect for many others. If you like it, cool.

I like the idea, but that style of OS negates any sort of word processing, gaming or other stuff that computers are used for these days. It would be perfect to use on a mini laptop used solely for internet browsing, if you had a secondary computer to store your files and do other work on with a traditional OS. Basically, it sounds to me that the Google Chrome OS turns your computer/laptop/whatever into one giant iPad.

Seriously? So all this is just to save that extra 45 seconds of booting time? If your computer was only a browser then if the internet stops working there would be no point in using it. I guess that's your appliance but Chrome OS just doesn't work, at least not for the majority of us. We use computers for games too as well as work, and the browser is just a convenient way of linking the things together. Without the loaded software your comp will eventually be fucked by viruses.

@absurdul Umh, you could easily use Office Live, or another Document Management system. You don't HAVE to use Google services on Google's laptop, just like you don't HAVE to use Office on a Windows Computer.
