You shouldn't detect when crowds are around. Many people don't like it and their complaints to authorities help get beaches closed to detecting. Also, should you happen to find a really nice keeper like a diamond ring, or rolex watch, you can be sure that some jerk 50 yards away is going to claim it's his, and call the cops if you don't give it to him. Go detecting early in the morning, or late in the evening, or during stormy weather. Beachs are deserted, and easy to detect then.

personally, I think thats ADORABLE! If he's a familiar face and a nice guy, the crowds probably love him. I bet they toss coins in his way when they see him coming (I would, just for fun). If he's a grouch, they maybe toss soda pop tabs in his way instead... lol

This beach is much more crowded than my favourite where I use to find 15- 25 Euros per hour whenever I go there. No other detectorists though.
