  • i want to buy a platipus..... i shall name him Perry!

  • "EAT IT HOODIE!"

  • I wonder if Denise saw this episode.

  • The Platypus is not the only venomous mammal as Slow loris's are also venomous.

  • @TheJesussmasher Did you see the documentary about The Slow loris?Perhaps They never knew that the Slow loris was venomous when this was filmed.Or it may have been one of those rare QI mistakes. They may even correct their mistake in a later episode like they done with the triple point of water & the fish tongue.

  • Can anyone tell me if they know some Thatcher criticisms quotes in QI? I have got an assignment, I am planning to put some dark sarcasm and quotes from this amazing programme.I do not think I am able to find another way to enjoy Thatcherism. So please let me know.

  • @prpldwrf There's an episode (unless it's this one and I missed it) where they use a side-by-side image of her, one right side up, the other upside down, but with her mouth right side up. I'm pretty sure they must have made some comments during that segment.

Now what episode that was in? That is the question.

  • @quite1nteresting thank you so much for your quick reply about that, I remember that episode, it was quite amazing. I do not remember the episode unfortunately as well. I'll check all of your channel :) Honestly I want to use some national treasures such as amazing Fry himself in this kind of matter. Because probably you remember during Hugh and Laurie, they did quite a hell of a job about political correctness in those dark times :)

  • @prpldwrf Found it, it's even called the Thatcher Effect, and you can find it in Series F, episode seven.

  • @quite1nteresting you are wonderful, you made my day. I love you :) Hurraaa

  • @prpldwrf The only one I remember off the top of my head is from an episode I recently watched (season 3, episode 4), where they're talking about a strain of fruit fly called the Maggie. When the panel is talking about why it's called the Maggie, Alan says "hates the unions, a bit right wing."

  • @TRG1984 Thank you so much :) I took a note about that season, I'll keep searching asap. But it is quite useful what you have remembered from that episode. Many thanks.

  • @prpldwrf If you don't find what you want on QI then go to any Spitting Image clips/videos and I'm sure you'll have enough for a whole book!......Just something that brings a little cheer into these cold dark days is, the bitch'll be dead soon. The evil harpie can't have much more life in her.

  • @gawagney Thanks for your support. For the introduction I am planning to put some quotes from QI, columnists, etc like just you said to put some funny sarcastic criticism. Unfortunately, it does not matter after what she have done to UK with neo- liberal capitalist regime, exclusions and her racist, fascist attitude amongst firstly unions, working class and so on.. I got her memoir from library and that book gives me thrills honestly....Many thanks for your honest reply and support.

  • @prpldwrf Cool. Happy to help. By the way, a periodical that you may or may not have seen or heard of is, Private Eye. If you can, try any of the Thatcher years copies, any of them will have some fabulous articles/comments/cartoons that could be useful. You certainly won't find any of them to be in the least flattering toward the megalomaniac bitch and a wealth of jibes at her awful husband, Dennis.

Good luck with your assignment, I'd love to have a read when you finish it.

  • @gawagney I know that one, but it is nice to hear from you as well. You seem quite familiar with the subtext due to the regulations and sociological comeuppances of this political matter. And we may share similar political views I think, so it will be nice to hear what do you think and some criticisms as well.I'll send you when I finish the work, I am quite peculiar last min. person. I haven't started yet I am afraid. Many thanks again. You've been really helpful and friendly.

  • @prpldwrf Also, you must see the film with Meryl Streep it's well worth the visit, whatever one may feel about her [Thatcher].

Again, all the best with your project.

  • @gawagney Iron Lady seems extreme, that can make me insomniac but I guess it was inevitable to hear this suggestion. I was thinking to avoid that movie really. Despite the fact, I like Meryl Streep and don't know why she accepted the role, also got an award for it. I got Maggie's memoir, and I hope that will be enough. But I strongly promote the idea of recycling it :)

  • At the Texas State Fair in Dallas you can get a deep fried stick of butter.

  • 1) the pizza is deep fried from frozen

    2) hand on (diseased) heart, i can honestly say I've never had deep fried chocolate, however I have had deep fried cheese and that was delicious. I dont really see what is so disgusting about it. what is tempura after all?

  • This is by far the best episode of QI ever. Have a nut, Alan's buzzer, it's simply the greatest of the great.

  • omg the wine glass stunt at the end killed me!!

  • You do not want to be 17 trust me it's terrible !!! :)

  • @PrueXAndy4eva agreed...

  • "EAT IT, HOODY!" I've watched this episode time and time again just for that golden line, heh!

  • JULIET

  • My local fish and chip shop used to do deep fried chocolate bars and pizzas but that was in the west country, I thought they just did it everywhere, proper grotty though. In Brighton's Churchill square we still got the van doing deep fried pizzas but apparently it's an Italian original. Scotland gets to much credit for incredibly unhealthy meals...

  • @moles9999 as a Brighton resident dating an Italian...it's apparently not.

  • what was the name of the type of glass it was at 26:53?

  • @NiftyVlogs Sugar Glass

The same stuff they use in movies when stunt men jump/get thrown through it.

  • @NiftyVlogs its sugar glass. its what they use in tv and movies for windows and stuff.

  • My favorite bit of this episode was when everyone was complaining about the little things about being 17 and Fry nonchalantly adds: I was in prison.

  • What a fantastic episode =)

  • 'The deep fried pork sausage kebab' ha, i can get a stick of deep fried butter a 5 minutes walk from my house.

  • I have to say as a chinese man, Chairman Mao's name does not mean cat, as that is a different character but his last name actually means fur.

  • Comment removed

  • @Saitothesushi The westerners are not aware of the vocalisation.

  • @llgla You mean tones.

  • You know it's an addiction when you yell "Points!" in class after you have answered something correctly.

  • I'd rather swim through a bunch of turds than a bunch of dolphins wearing condoms.

  • I bought a pack of fag papers recently that have top five facts on the cover & it says the U.K. has the second biggest beaked bean consumption per person.Ireland eats slightly more & the U.S.A. was slightly behind the U.K. can't remember what the other 2 were.

  • @metabolicshaun I say Canada has to be up there.

Also, your other comment about the deep fried pizza? What! Why would they ruin a pizza by deep frying it, battered no less, has some fries instead, or something, ack.

  • @quite1nteresting

my dream is to try taste a deep fried mars bar! kept bothering my biology teacher about it (since hes scottish) he said they dont make em anymore.

  • @fakeaccount663 Trust me, they do. I had one less than a month ago, only have one, and never after a meal.

They sicken you at the last mouthful.

  • @quite1nteresting I just went & googled the beaked bean consumption per capita & my fag papers were wrong.

    The top ten really were

    Ireland, 5.6 kg--UK, 4.8 kg--New Zealand, 2.3kg--USA, 2.0 kg--Australia, 1.9 kg--France, 1.6 kg--Saudi Arabia, 1.6 kg--Switzerland, 1.5 kg--Ukraine, 1.3 kg--Canada, 1.2 kg

The pizza looked rank but the deep fried mars bar is actually quality.I had it once when I was a kid.

  • @quite1nteresting Yes the deep fried pizza is so unhealthy and doesnt look appetising but trust me, after a few beers theres nothing can satisfy your hunger than a cholesterol busting grease laiden pizza in batter. Try it if you can. Just dont expect to have fresh breath in the morning

  • @quite1nteresting I'm Canadian, some times my family deep frys pizza crust and serves it with dip (espc. if its the type of crust that is filled with cheese). This isn't a tradition or anything, just something we picked up.

  • @metabolicshaun At least beans are relatively good for you and not battered and deep-fried.

  • @metabolicshaun I've read the recipes are fairly different, though, for what it's worth. The most popular recipe in America is a salty/sweet sauce with pork and mushy beans kind of thing. I'm interested in trying the British recipe (which you can't really find in the states anymore), but its hard to find outside of re-imports. Gotta be better than our stuff, though, which on toast would ruin perfectly good toast. Molasses and beans, go figure.

  • @niclasjt I thought Heinz beans would be the same everywhere.Maybe there is something in the sauce.I know that real haggis is illegal in the U.S. For some reason it's against the law to sell sheep's lungs in the U.S. & I think China & Japan too.

  • I'm from Scotland & when I was at school my friends always got deep fat fried pizzas & burgers for lunch, it looked disgusting the whole thing was covered in batter & grease.I just used to buy fags from the chippy. This is why we are the heart attack capital of Europe.

  • "I suppose two people could be in dialogue, but could be one, could be a hundred" It couldn't be one though, that would be a monologue. A dialogue requires an exchange of words between at least 2 people. "Oh Fry. You Idiot"

  • I live in Oregon and I love baked beans! And I know a lot of people who eat them with barbeque, actually.

  • @kchapin9 I live in Ohio and am addicted to baked beans.

  • alan predicted the doctor who season 5 premiere episode :O custard.. fish fingers.. baked beans..

  • Thanks so much for posting. We lost our other poster Nick to the BBC hounds. RIP Nick.

  • lol... feel kind of like a dick for saying this, but the 'Mao' of 'Mao Zedong/Chairman Mao' (毛) is a completely different 'Mao' to the word for cat (猫), although 毛 does actually have the meaning of '(animal) fur'

  • I think you'll find Americans like a can of baked beans.

  • In New England baked beans are popular... We are one with our transatlantic brothers.

  • There were deep fried sticks of butter at the last county fair I went to... I love BFE, UT

  • This rather annoys me 毛 mao2 is identical to 猫 mao1 when transliterated without tone markers, but in Chinese they're not even homophones. 毛沢東 mao2 ze2dong1 means HAIR (surname) eastern swamp (given name).

  • "Who or what is cumingtonite?" = ME !!!!

  • Re: Alan's buzzer. That's Verdi, isn't it?

  • "HAVE A NUT!"

  • Given how popular this show appears to be with Americans, I'm surprised that a U.S. version hasn't been attempted.

  • @NinthBeaconOfJoy

Really don't think an American version would work. It is a very British program, most of it's charm comes from the middle class British sensibilities. It'd be like trying to make an American version of Allen Partridge, the humour would be totally lost.

Also, on a side note, they are pretty lucky Arthur Smith decided to throw the glass and not follow suit and smash it over his head.

  • Damn... it IS an addiction with me... I'm searching for all works of stephen fry for a long time now... Prefer his serious speeches, thou. Especially like what he sais about religion...

  • Fry can be wrong, you know- /watch?v=oXV45t6wlWU

    (mythbusters)

  • @prannayb

How exactly does that prove Fry wrong? Fry's statement was "It's almost impossible to do....100 decibels plus"

Mythbusters hit the glass first to make it resonate and then used an amp and feedback to break it....had the QI question been, "Is it possible to break a glass with sound?" then you might have had a point, but it wasn't it was "Is it possible to break a glass with just your voice?" and the answer they gave was "It's almost impossible".

  • @prannayb

Having said that, it always annoys me when people say how intelligent Fry is because he knows so much stuff. He doesn't come up with these facts off the top of his head, he is just reading what researchers told him was true, and several times they have made quite obvious mistakes and he has read them out anyway. The show about Gravity is littered with misinformation and half truths and he fails to pick up on any of it, he just blindly reads it out.

  • @ringosis I'm not annoyed when people call Fry intelligent because he knows so much. I think he IS very intelligent and he knows a lot of stuff.

(I also think those are two different things, both of which he posseses.) However, I agree that you can't use this show as a prove of that. (Except if you count his responses to the panelists, which I often find quite brilliant)

He reads the answers of his cards and kinda has to rely on them beeing right.

    He's still brilliant though. ;)

  • @HughLaurieFan2

If you watch a live recording of QI before they edit it you'd see that the majority of Fry's responses where he comes up with some obscure fact are being fed to him through his earpiece by some guys backstage reading wikipedia.

Like I said, he IS witty and intelligent for a TV personality, but he's not a genius. There are people who treat him as if he could goto that super collider in Cern and find the Higgs Boson on his lunch break.

    Being charming =/= Genius

  • @ringosis Don' have BBC, I'm afraid...

and apparently, he did two tests of some kind, one in school where the result was something like becoming genius and one afterwards to confirm.

Now I'm aware that you really can't take those tests too serious, but on the other hand it DOES mean that he is quite smart. And you have no proof that he's NOT a genius ;P

But well, he is who he is and I don't think it is useful to quarrel about wheter he is a genius or not.

And you're right, people do overestimate

  • Not saying he's an idiot. He's obviously well read and of above average intelligence, but people treat him as if he could have solve Fermat's Last Theorem if he just put his mind to it.

  • "Oh, 17's a terrible age! I had like awful hair, spots, glasses..."

    "I was in prison!"

    HAHAHAHAHAH! Gosh, I love him!

  • Evey time I try and watch this and some other episodes the video fucks up and puts the sound bef4 the actual video does any1 else have a problem with that coz its starting to piss me off

  • is it just me but this video stops dead in the middle, No spinner, nothing. just where they are talking about the poisonous beans

  • You rock! Thank I much for the uploads.. You help me keep my daily sanity

  • Heinz baked beans were banned in Canada for quite some time, because the water to bean ratio did not meet regulation, which caused many thousands of tins to be destroyed.

  • Thank you so much for uploading! Unfortunately, QI doesn't air in the US.

  • I must confess, I had the most massive crush on both Doon and Ronni Ancona when I first watched these a few yearsago. The episodes with either of those two in them are still my favourites.

  • Deep fried pizza ('Pizza Crunch') is delicious.

  • 16:53

    Custard and fishfingers.

  • The bit about Gordon Ramsay was fantastically hilarious. Ramsay F**king Foods, lol.

  • I want more more more QI and the extras.. and I want them now

  • Was Stephen eating the fake glass at the end? :o

It sounded like he was eating something :p

  • @midgeamoo Yupperz. It was sugar glass.

  • @midgeamoo yep, you can see him take a bite at 27:20

  • Thank God for YouTube, I'm only 13 and without it I would have missed out on Fry and Laurie, Jeeves and Wooster, the first QIs and MTWs and WILTYs, The Unbelievable Truth, Best of the Worst, The Bubble, Stephen and Hugh's Cambridge Footlights edition, countless HIGNFYs, the list goes on.

  • what a lovely episode, thank you so much for beautifying the internet with these full uploads, it's a joy.

  • WOO WOO BLARGH

    HAVANUT MYGRANDOTHERS DEAD

fucking hell I just found my new ringtone :D

  • what was stephens glass made out of?

  • Wow! I didn't know I and Stephen Fry share the same birthday!

  • I recommend watching this and all other QI videos with the "transcribe audio" CC button on...

2:12 = "This woman has formed a camel ladies and gentlemen"

  • @ekb123 That's brilliant, what a good laugh. Also a nice excuse to watch the episodes again.

"full of condoms" = "Phillip condoms"

"Oh all right you win" = "you can have all white male brain"

  • @ekb123 they get occassional bits right, then the rest of it is incomprehensible >.< madness

  • in Sweden you can find a cat food brand called Pussy.

  • WAIT my last name is heintz :|

it's not spelled the same, but it's the same word!!! :o

  • @IdaABC Nobody's sauce tastes the same as yours...

  • @MetalGearCherVik hahaha, I know!! ;D

  • Hello, my name is Jennifer and I am also a QIholic. I feel like I'm in the right place. :-)

  • This is one of my favorite episodes. Thank you!

  • Sir , I want some more please

  • QI is amazing. But this line up... ugh...

  • Since I found QI last year I've watched every episode and yet I find that I am unable to turn away from the opportunity of watching them again as you post them. I believe I may have an addiction...

  • @Punatik Welcome to the Cult of Fry.

  • @yutzwagon2 LOL Thank you but I'm a 20+ yr member of the CoF. I'm just so happy that with youtube us American members can find QI and that it occurred to me to check. It annoyed me for sometime that we were missing out on QI.

  • @Punatik You'll know it's an addiction when you start seeking out all the other works of Stephen, Alan, and all the other contestants.

  • @ASparrow1 Oh dear, I've done that so I guess it's official then. Hello, my name is Punatik and I'm an addict.

  • @ASparrow1 I'm already there XD I've looked up Stephen, Alan, Ross, Jo Brand, Sean Lock, etc. I still can't get enough.

  • @ASparrow1 And watching them on repeat as well as Qi.

  • @ASparrow1

    I've found myself doing that...

  • @ASparrow1 is there a support group for this?

  • @Craxblorg This is it, mate.

  • @ASparrow1 I attempted to add up all of the hours that QI has given - I say given for surely it is a present - me. I lost count.

  • @Punatik You're not alone, Punatik... you're not alone. ;)

  • @Punatik

    an addiction....TO KNOWLEDGE!!!

  • @Cpt50Caliber An acceptable addiction. :)

  • @Punatik its not an addiction, its a way of life :P

  • Alan looks so tired in this episode. Look at those bags under his eyes!
