@TheJesussmasher Did you see the documentary about The Slow loris?Perhaps They never knew that the Slow loris was venomous when this was filmed.Or it may have been one of those rare QI mistakes. They may even correct their mistake in a later episode like they done with the triple point of water & the fish tongue.
Can anyone tell me if they know some Thatcher criticisms quotes in QI? I have got an assignment, I am planning to put some dark sarcasm and quotes from this amazing programme.I do not think I am able to find another way to enjoy Thatcherism. So please let me know.
@prpldwrf There's an episode (unless it's this one and I missed it) where they use a side-by-side image of her, one right side up, the other upside down, but with her mouth right side up. I'm pretty sure they must have made some comments during that segment.
Now what episode that was in? That is the question.
@quite1nteresting thank you so much for your quick reply about that, I remember that episode, it was quite amazing. I do not remember the episode unfortunately as well. I'll check all of your channel :) Honestly I want to use some national treasures such as amazing Fry himself in this kind of matter. Because probably you remember during Hugh and Laurie, they did quite a hell of a job about political correctness in those dark times :)
@prpldwrf The only one I remember off the top of my head is from an episode I recently watched (season 3, episode 4), where they're talking about a strain of fruit fly called the Maggie. When the panel is talking about why it's called the Maggie, Alan says "hates the unions, a bit right wing."
@TRG1984 Thank you so much :) I took a note about that season, I'll keep searching asap. But it is quite useful what you have remembered from that episode. Many thanks.
@prpldwrf If you don't find what you want on QI then go to any Spitting Image clips/videos and I'm sure you'll have enough for a whole book!......Just something that brings a little cheer into these cold dark days is, the bitch'll be dead soon. The evil harpie can't have much more life in her.
@gawagney Thanks for your support. For the introduction I am planning to put some quotes from QI, columnists, etc like just you said to put some funny sarcastic criticism. Unfortunately, it does not matter after what she have done to UK with neo- liberal capitalist regime, exclusions and her racist, fascist attitude amongst firstly unions, working class and so on.. I got her memoir from library and that book gives me thrills honestly....Many thanks for your honest reply and support.
@prpldwrf Cool. Happy to help. By the way, a periodical that you may or may not have seen or heard of is, Private Eye. If you can, try any of the Thatcher years copies, any of them will have some fabulous articles/comments/cartoons that could be useful. You certainly won't find any of them to be in the least flattering toward the megalomaniac bitch and a wealth of jibes at her awful husband, Dennis.
Good luck with your assignment, I'd love to have a read when you finish it.
@gawagney I know that one, but it is nice to hear from you as well. You seem quite familiar with the subtext due to the regulations and sociological comeuppances of this political matter. And we may share similar political views I think, so it will be nice to hear what do you think and some criticisms as well.I'll send you when I finish the work, I am quite peculiar last min. person. I haven't started yet I am afraid. Many thanks again. You've been really helpful and friendly.
@gawagney Iron Lady seems extreme, that can make me insomniac but I guess it was inevitable to hear this suggestion. I was thinking to avoid that movie really. Despite the fact, I like Meryl Streep and don't know why she accepted the role, also got an award for it. I got Maggie's memoir, and I hope that will be enough. But I strongly promote the idea of recycling it :)
2) hand on (diseased) heart, i can honestly say I've never had deep fried chocolate, however I have had deep fried cheese and that was delicious. I dont really see what is so disgusting about it. what is tempura after all?
My local fish and chip shop used to do deep fried chocolate bars and pizzas but that was in the west country, I thought they just did it everywhere, proper grotty though. In Brighton's Churchill square we still got the van doing deep fried pizzas but apparently it's an Italian original. Scotland gets to much credit for incredibly unhealthy meals...
I bought a pack of fag papers recently that have top five facts on the cover & it says the U.K. has the second biggest beaked bean consumption per person.Ireland eats slightly more & the U.S.A. was slightly behind the U.K. can't remember what the other 2 were.
Also, your other comment about the deep fried pizza? What! Why would they ruin a pizza by deep frying it, battered no less, has some fries instead, or something, ack.
@quite1nteresting Yes the deep fried pizza is so unhealthy and doesnt look appetising but trust me, after a few beers theres nothing can satisfy your hunger than a cholesterol busting grease laiden pizza in batter. Try it if you can. Just dont expect to have fresh breath in the morning
@quite1nteresting I'm Canadian, some times my family deep frys pizza crust and serves it with dip (espc. if its the type of crust that is filled with cheese). This isn't a tradition or anything, just something we picked up.
@metabolicshaun I've read the recipes are fairly different, though, for what it's worth. The most popular recipe in America is a salty/sweet sauce with pork and mushy beans kind of thing. I'm interested in trying the British recipe (which you can't really find in the states anymore), but its hard to find outside of re-imports. Gotta be better than our stuff, though, which on toast would ruin perfectly good toast. Molasses and beans, go figure.
@niclasjt I thought Heinz beans would be the same everywhere.Maybe there is something in the sauce.I know that real haggis is illegal in the U.S. For some reason it's against the law to sell sheep's lungs in the U.S. & I think China & Japan too.
I'm from Scotland & when I was at school my friends always got deep fat fried pizzas & burgers for lunch, it looked disgusting the whole thing was covered in batter & grease.I just used to buy fags from the chippy. This is why we are the heart attack capital of Europe.
"I suppose two people could be in dialogue, but could be one, could be a hundred" It couldn't be one though, that would be a monologue. A dialogue requires an exchange of words between at least 2 people. "Oh Fry. You Idiot"
lol... feel kind of like a dick for saying this, but the 'Mao' of 'Mao Zedong/Chairman Mao' (毛) is a completely different 'Mao' to the word for cat (猫), although 毛 does actually have the meaning of '(animal) fur'
This rather annoys me 毛 mao2 is identical to 猫 mao1 when transliterated without tone markers, but in Chinese they're not even homophones. 毛沢東 mao2 ze2dong1 means HAIR (surname) eastern swamp (given name).
Really don't think an American version would work. It is a very British program, most of it's charm comes from the middle class British sensibilities. It'd be like trying to make an American version of Allen Partridge, the humour would be totally lost.
Also, on a side note, they are pretty lucky Arthur Smith decided to throw the glass and not follow suit and smash it over his head.
Damn... it IS an addiction with me... I'm searching for all works of stephen fry for a long time now... Prefer his serious speeches, thou. Especially like what he sais about religion...
How exactly does that prove Fry wrong? Fry's statement was "It's almost impossible to do....100 decibels plus"
Mythbusters hit the glass first to make it resonate and then used an amp and feedback to break it....had the QI question been, "Is it possible to break a glass with sound?" then you might have had a point, but it wasn't it was "Is it possible to break a glass with just your voice?" and the answer they gave was "It's almost impossible".
Having said that, it always annoys me when people say how intelligent Fry is because he knows so much stuff. He doesn't come up with these facts off the top of his head, he is just reading what researchers told him was true, and several times they have made quite obvious mistakes and he has read them out anyway. The show about Gravity is littered with misinformation and half truths and he fails to pick up on any of it, he just blindly reads it out.
@ringosis I'm not annoyed when people call Fry intelligent because he knows so much. I think he IS very intelligent and he knows a lot of stuff.
(I also think those are two different things, both of which he posseses.) However, I agree that you can't use this show as a prove of that. (Except if you count his responses to the panelists, which I often find quite brilliant)
He reads the answers of his cards and kinda has to rely on them beeing right.
If you watch a live recording of QI before they edit it you'd see that the majority of Fry's responses where he comes up with some obscure fact are being fed to him through his earpiece by some guys backstage reading wikipedia.
Like I said, he IS witty and intelligent for a TV personality, but he's not a genius. There are people who treat him as if he could goto that super collider in Cern and find the Higgs Boson on his lunch break.
and apparently, he did two tests of some kind, one in school where the result was something like becoming genius and one afterwards to confirm.
Now I'm aware that you really can't take those tests too serious, but on the other hand it DOES mean that he is quite smart. And you have no proof that he's NOT a genius ;P
But well, he is who he is and I don't think it is useful to quarrel about wheter he is a genius or not.
Not saying he's an idiot. He's obviously well read and of above average intelligence, but people treat him as if he could have solve Fermat's Last Theorem if he just put his mind to it.
Evey time I try and watch this and some other episodes the video fucks up and puts the sound bef4 the actual video does any1 else have a problem with that coz its starting to piss me off

Since I found QI last year I've watched every episode and yet I find that I am unable to turn away from the opportunity of watching them again as you post them. I believe I may have an addiction...

@yutzwagon2 LOL Thank you but I'm a 20+ yr member of the CoF. I'm just so happy that with youtube us American members can find QI and that it occurred to me to check. It annoyed me for sometime that we were missing out on QI.

@Punatik You'll know it's an addiction when you start seeking out all the other works of Stephen, Alan, and all the other contestants.

@ASparrow1 I attempted to add up all of the hours that QI has given - I say given for surely it is a present - me. I lost count.
