I find it astounding that the younger crowd of today could compare Todd Rundgren to Lady Gaga. I don't believe I have EVER seen her pick up and play any musical instrument.
What made Todd so special, apart from all his other qualities, was his courage in attempting such songs as this one live. I just watched this video and was full of nervousness, willing him on to nail it. He did it! Whwew! Something about human fraility overcoming against all the odds. Todd was and is the greatest of all the american rock heroes. A wizard a true star.
March '09 touring dates are cropping up....keep an eye out folks.
Todd still puts on a hell of a show and rocks better than most half his age.....I know cuz I saw him 8 times since April of '07........
I still can't understand how, after 40 years, he's not inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm going there next month and I'm going to ask somebody "WHY?"
I agree with you. Plus I have since heard that Todd wouldn't want to be inducted anyway....and I totally understand why.....he's not one to go with the "flow"......right? Are you going to any of the new shows coming up? I'm going to NYC and Vineland, NJ....back to back....!!!!!
Tottaly agree, plue how many artists can anyone say inspires their own ambitions in their personal life? This music always helped keep me going when it came out in the '80's..
How did the shows in NYC and Vineland go? They were great!!! I saw alot of friends there at both shows and got Todd to sign my newest T shirt...and chatted with his wife, Michele, a bit.
Going to see Todd, Hall and Oates and The Hooters on Oct. 23rd as these Philly boys play a last gig at The Spectrum before they tear her down......
@VenusGrnys -love this song too. I was at the Oct 23 show in Philly as well. waited for Todd to come out after the show but he never did - so sad. Are you going to the NJ show of Todd/Healing in Sept?
When I was about 19 and still at home, my old man must have heard me singing along to a cranked "Hermit of Mink Hollow". Latter in the day, when flipping me shit as usual, he commented: "Yeah, I know - I'm too far gone! ahh! I'm too far gone! Yeah, you're too far gone alright!" Much to his dismay, I busted out in laughter! Dad's a Todd Head!
Todd - Never gets boring to see in concert - always different, always pushing the limits - can't wait until he comes to the STL. Anybody heard anything?

What a insightful, true song. His voice sounds great. This live version is even better than the recording, which is also wonderful.

Screw those sellouts who vote for entrants in the R&R hall....Madonna?? Give us all a break. We know Todd's deserves more than he's gotten...

I would only bestow the word genius on a handful of artists from the 20th century. Todd is one. This song demonstrates that.

Such beautiful chords! And this guy came up with all of it without a bit of musical training. Pretty amazing, if you ask me!
