@2hottie69 can you define the abbreviation DJ to everybody? The word DJ was used long before they invented the pitch manipulation. Go and educate your self a bit. BTW I so dislike this product because of this limitation so I won't go for it. Thanks for the effort in making this video.
@2hottie69 I agree 100%. It probably should have been called "Mobile iDJ" because that's the only kind of gigs it seems to be designed for. Huge oversight for a company that's been making DJ gear for years.
@sumi415 they would have to be powered speakers. There is not an amp in this mixer so you can't plug it directly to speakers unless the speakers are self-powered. You would need a power amp or speakers with amps built into them. Hope this helps.
@sumi415 powered speakers have amps built into them already so you can plug the mixer straight into the speakers to get sound. Usually you would need turntables/CD decks, a seperate power amp running power to the speakers for sound.
@sumi415 so are powerd speakers the computer speakers like the ones u plug into the wall and u plug into the back of the comp or are they like radio speakers?
Either way would be good, but rca (from your master out) to rca (in back of the speakers) would be a cheaper option as far as the price of cables. Hope this helps.
I am trying to hook up 2 powered 15inch speakers with the IDJ. The speakers have rca jacks as well as xlr. Can you tell me how to best do this for the optimal sound. Thanks
the greatest feature is that you can scroll thru the music rather than having to scroll on the ipod itself. Also, I wish they would include the mini scratch board so that we could scratch while the music plays. Could we record our mixes onto a computer? I would like to record my own mixes
@TrinMin777 you could run the master out or record out into a soundcard to your computer and record that way. Or if you have garageband or something like it, you could just get a "Y" cable that goes from rca to mini-jack and go from the mixer straight to your computer.
Let me know what your budget is and I can better answer our question. Are you wanting to hook up CD players, vinyl turntables or spin straight from our laptop?
@leonlamont 200-300 u mean install vinyl turntables to my laptop? im kinda looking at the idj2 but for some reason i cant find a store thats selling one
@prim3tim31 the iDJ2 would be a better purchase but cost four to five times as much. You might want to look for it at amazon.com or guitar center. I have not had a chance to mess with the iDJ2, but have heard complaints about it not reading files from the new iTunes library. You might want to consider laptop DJing. Is 2-300 your mixer budget or your whole set up budget?
@leonlamont i see lol so the idj, idj 2 and idj 3 are not so good huh...idk bout the laptop dj my latop is pretty beat and i have no intetions on buying a new one. 200-200 is just my mixer for now then once i get used to it ima buy a whole set piece by piece but for now im just trying to get a mixer that is worth 200-300 $
Hey, prim3tim31! Unless you are dead set on your using your iPod, I would suggest any DJ mixer in the same price range, but here are a few. Gemini PS-121X . Numark M1 DJ Mixer. Gemini PS-424X 2 Channel DJ Mixer. Numark M1USB DJ Mixer with USB. This last one still makes it possible for you to hook up your iPod. Let me know if this helps.
@leonlamont ahhh thanks! thanks! this really helps!anyways i kinda want to beatmatch and from your review the idj doesnt have the ability to that. can you please give some options? thanks alot sorry if i have alot of questions
i see for now i just want to learn how to be a dj im really considering the idj but i kinda want to scratch and get a feel of it.(i heard you cant scratch with the idj unless you connect one) you mentioned that i should get another mixer with the same price range right? can you please tell me what are my options? thanks!
I have no experience with the Merkury or the iSpin (they both look like the same device). It depends on what kind of DJ you are going to be. You can not beatmatch with this mixer. You might want to look into another standard mixer in this same price range. If you just want to play songs back to back without matching beats this would work. From what I have seen, the iDJ looks like a better mixer than the other two mentioned. Hope this helped.
heyy im just confused see im an amatuer never touched a dj set and im just starting. anyways i wanna buy one but before i do i wanna know which ones better or whats the difference between idj, merkury dj mixer and the ispin?
@JoeHalipinio yes, you can attach turntables to this mixer. I'm not clear on what kind of cord you are looking for. You would hook up turntables to it like any other basic DJ mixer. Hope this helps.
@the1118ap you have to hook it up to an amp or some powered speakers. There are no speakers built into the unit. It works the same way as a regular DJ mixer.
i heard you say that you can't match bpm, is there a ipod mixer that can? and if so, do you know of one that also has imports? i know that the one you have does, but im looking for one that also has bpm matching
I know a couple of people that have the iDJ2 and they say that they have problems playing files from iTunes that they recently purchased because of encoding issues. It's obvious that the people working on the iDJ project are not actual DJs. How else could they neglect to put BPM control on the first mixer.
I know...it's quite laughable. If you are at all familiar with mobile DJing though (weddings, school dances) this thing is perfect for that because those gigs don't require beatmatching.
In the future, if i was to buy a pair of, say, Pioneer CDJ 200s would I be able to use the iDJ as a mixer for the two using the CH 1 and CH 2 inputs? Because as of right now I don't really need to match tempos, just create a continuous flow of music, and if i decide to get into DJing i would like to use this as the mixer...
Yes, you could use CDJ players in the future. I sometimes use CDJ 800s hooked to this mixer. You could even hook turntables to it if you want. Think of the iDJ as a regular mixer with iPod attachments.
if you leave the song on till the end will it automaticly go to the next song? I am thinking of getting this over a docking station for my ipod touch.
Yes. If your iPod settings are for tracks to continue on, you could just put your iPod in this mixer and let it run. You would be better off getting this mixer instead of a docking staion.
Hy can you play music whitout ipods ?? tru a soft PC like Atomix or other...???? i make a comand of this and they dont give me ipods.. the produc dosent arrive..but i wanna know if i can play whit out ipods
You can use it as a regular mixer w/out iPods, but you can't you use it as a controller for DJ software. It's just a mixer. There isn't an internal hard drive to store music or anything.
Sorry it took me so long to respond. NO, you can not manipulate the tracks. There is a new version of this mixer that cost like 5 or 6 times as much as this one that does that. Is the new model worth it? No. iTunes has become the enemy of DJs. With the latest encoding...I would just say, "skip it".

It has an rca out. You could hook it up to a home stereo, tv with stereo rca inputs or any amp with rca ins or rca to 1/4 inch ins. You know...the same way you would hook up a stand-alone CD player or tuner.
I think someone asked earlier if this unit would work with the iPhone and the answer is "yes".
The long of it:
I had a gig last night and a patron wanted to hear a song he had on his iPhone. I put the iPhone into the mixer and played his tune without any problems. My DJ set-up was Powerbook G4, Serato Scratch, iDJ mixer and one Pioneer CDJ-800. Cheers.
thanks for the demo....i am a college student and had to leave my gear at home....this might be a nice alternate for the apt. one quick question, whats scratching like on this sucker. if possible at all?
I'm not sure, I don't own an iPod touch. You could probably take your touch into a local store and see if they will let you try to put it into a floor model of the mixer.
Yes, this is Numark. When I do video production, I always cover the product logos because I don't have permission from the company to use their brand name.
I don't get sent gear to review professionally (yet). This is my own mixer that I bought. I posted this video because (no suprise) a lot of my friends are DJs and ask me a lot of questions everytime I take it out of the house.
Do you think it is worth buying if you only have one ipod at hand?? I mean if I do the mobile-dj thing and I have all the music I have in MY ipod, will I still be able to mix (I do realise that "mixing" here is more of an advance fading and cuing).. thx in advance :)
It's worth it if you have a CD player or something to cross fade to. You will have a hard way to go trying to mix with one iPod unless you graduate to the $600.00 iDJ2.
Yeah, this is just like a basic mixer with iPod hook-ups. You can use it with just two turntables or to two CD players or whatever else. It has a switch that lets you go grom "line" to "iPod". So you could DJ from two other sources and bring in the iPod when you needed to.
I'm havng trouble with the svideo, my tv and projector don't receive signal. I hava an ipod nano 4gb, and it's settings are enabling tv out. what else could I try. Thanks a lot.
Actually I've tested only one Nano and the video seemed to not work on that one too. The only other thing that I could suggest would be looking at the pins on your S-Video cable. I sometimes bend them...causing them not to work.
hi, thanks your review was really insightful and much better than any store online review!!
i was wondering do you think its worth me buying it i will only use it for home use, maily to listen to my ipod through a good sound system but also so i can do a little bit of mixing with tracks???? is it worth £100 or shuld i seek an alternative??? any help would be appreciated
Thanks for the compliment. I'm really bad at math, but isn't the pound worth almost twice as much as the US dollar now?
Which would put this at about $200.00 USD. At $100.00 USD it is worth it for sure. More than that... I don't know. For home use this thing is good especially for hooking the video iPod up to your television and home stereo.
nar its 100 ive checked not quite sure how the currency thing works, but thats what i wanna use it for listening to music and doing the odd little mixing so thanks for your help!
also lol, sorry to keep writing but will it play original ipod mini or external usb mp3's??? just i only have 1 ipod and want to mix but can get an old mini of a mate 4 free????
No, you can't scratch. For the features you are talking about you can type in "iDJ2" in the youtube browser and it should take you to the improved mixer that costs 6 times the price of this one.
So, is it able to stop recharging the ipods so the batteries don't get messed up? Looks like it would be good for a wedding dj, but what the price? If there's no pitch set, why not just get a mixer and hook-up each ipod to it? I guess this just simplifies things while making it look cool.
Once the iPods are chaged it just says "charged" and stops. This thing is great for wedding DJs and you can usually grab one for under $100.00. Hooking up two iPods to a regular DJ mixer is a nightmare to mix with (trust me...I've tried it). This mixer makes it easier to manage the iPod...especially in a dark setting. All of that "light touch" on the iPod crap flies right out of the window.
No. The iPod would be seperate just as if you had it hooked to an extra line-in on your regular mixer. To scratch the mp3s on your iPod you would need the new iDJ2.
This model is the Numark, but if you do a little bit of research you will find that Numark and Ion are the same company. If you are interested in the item I would go for the Numark over Ion because Ion is their cheaper versions of numark products.
I have no idea why they produce products that look the same but have different build quality. Hope this helps.

Yes, this is Numark. When I do video production, I always cover the product logos because I don't have permission from the company to use their brand name.
leonlamont 3 years ago
hey man, that looks awesome, but can you set the tracks to the same tempo like cue it?
RraveSH 3 years ago
Nah, you can't beatmatch or cue with this unit.
That would be the iDJ2 and other units they have on the market now that you can DJ from an iPod with.
leonlamont 3 years ago
nice, ive had a look at the idj2 but it costs a bomb and i don't want to have to sell my decks, can you tell me any other ipod decks?
RraveSH 3 years ago
That helped me a lot. Thank you!

You're welcome.

can you scratch with those two wheels?
mikezor928 3 years ago
Dear LeonLamont, excuseme, any review of the another ipodmixer "itrax" from gemini gear,
I wait your response. thanks man!
Realbigcheese15 4 years ago
Hi,
I don't get sent gear to review professionally (yet). This is my own mixer that I bought. I posted this video because (no suprise) a lot of my friends are DJs and ask me a lot of questions everytime I take it out of the house.
I've seen itrax around but haven't used it.

Hey would you recommend this for a first time dj who wanted to do a basic house party?

cool review!
another question man...
Do you think it is worth buying if you only have one ipod at hand?? I mean if I do the mobile-dj thing and I have all the music I have in MY ipod, will I still be able to mix (I do realise that "mixing" here is more of an advance fading and cuing).. thx in advance :)
crabopy 4 years ago
It's worth it if you have a CD player or something to cross fade to. You will have a hard way to go trying to mix with one iPod unless you graduate to the $600.00 iDJ2.
leonlamont 4 years ago
one question???
so you can use this as a mixer can YOU???
Clageoteoti 4 years ago
Yeah, this is just like a basic mixer with iPod hook-ups. You can use it with just two turntables or to two CD players or whatever else. It has a switch that lets you go grom "line" to "iPod". So you could DJ from two other sources and bring in the iPod when you needed to.

Great presentatin. Thanks.
I'm havng trouble with the svideo, my tv and projector don't receive signal. I hava an ipod nano 4gb, and it's settings are enabling tv out. what else could I try. Thanks a lot.
vouyer 4 years ago
Actually I've tested only one Nano and the video seemed to not work on that one too. The only other thing that I could suggest would be looking at the pins on your S-Video cable. I sometimes bend them...causing them not to work.
Maybe the Nano doesn't work with this unit.

ok, i will wait for your answer...

Does it work with ipod touch?
ramirez2309 4 years ago
That's a very good question. I don't know. I'll have to look into that.

hi, thanks your review was really insightful and much better than any store online review!!
i was wondering do you think its worth me buying it i will only use it for home use, maily to listen to my ipod through a good sound system but also so i can do a little bit of mixing with tracks???? is it worth £100 or shuld i seek an alternative??? any help would be appreciated
rajepoo 4 years ago
Thanks for the compliment. I'm really bad at math, but isn't the pound worth almost twice as much as the US dollar now?
Which would put this at about $200.00 USD. At $100.00 USD it is worth it for sure. More than that... I don't know. For home use this thing is good especially for hooking the video iPod up to your television and home stereo.
leonlamont 4 years ago
nar its 100 ive checked not quite sure how the currency thing works, but thats what i wanna use it for listening to music and doing the odd little mixing so thanks for your help!
rajepoo 4 years ago
also lol, sorry to keep writing but will it play original ipod mini or external usb mp3's??? just i only have 1 ipod and want to mix but can get an old mini of a mate 4 free????
rajepoo 4 years ago
can u also use the 'wheels' to scratch and mix instead of just controlling the ipod? (im guessing not)
willem161 4 years ago
No, you can't scratch. For the features you are talking about you can type in "iDJ2" in the youtube browser and it should take you to the improved mixer that costs 6 times the price of this one.
leonlamont 4 years ago
omg that is so cool
martinw17 4 years ago
ey leon my man...where do you get this at?
catrachito4rmminas 4 years ago
You can get this at Guitar Center and most other musical instrument stores...or online at Zzounds.
leonlamont 4 years ago
is this for every ipod?
catrachito4rmminas 4 years ago
This mixer only works on 3rd generation iPods and above.
leonlamont 4 years ago
can i conect it to my mac to use it as a usb midi controler for dj software
???
gordotj 4 years ago
No, this unit can't be used as a MIDI controler. There are no MIDI functions. The USB lines are only used for transfering data from laptop to iPod.
leonlamont 4 years ago
So, is it able to stop recharging the ipods so the batteries don't get messed up? Looks like it would be good for a wedding dj, but what the price? If there's no pitch set, why not just get a mixer and hook-up each ipod to it? I guess this just simplifies things while making it look cool.
calebhouse 4 years ago
Once the iPods are chaged it just says "charged" and stops. This thing is great for wedding DJs and you can usually grab one for under $100.00. Hooking up two iPods to a regular DJ mixer is a nightmare to mix with (trust me...I've tried it). This mixer makes it easier to manage the iPod...especially in a dark setting. All of that "light touch" on the iPod crap flies right out of the window.
leonlamont 4 years ago
so if you hook up turntables to your idj, would you be able to scratch the songs that are on your ipod?
Jaaaake15 4 years ago
No. The iPod would be seperate just as if you had it hooked to an extra line-in on your regular mixer. To scratch the mp3s on your iPod you would need the new iDJ2.
leonlamont 4 years ago
This model is the Numark, but if you do a little bit of research you will find that Numark and Ion are the same company. If you are interested in the item I would go for the Numark over Ion because Ion is their cheaper versions of numark products.
I have no idea why they produce products that look the same but have different build quality. Hope this helps.
leonlamont 4 years ago
Great video... but that one is from Numark IDJ o Ion IDJ ?? both look the same... thanks
