Really clever all round, seems like: the recyclable/replaceable beer can that becomes the boiler (and fire snuffer!), plus an insulated holder that doubles as a windscreen: all that and super-light to boot- I wasn't real enthusiastic about solid fuel, but this system promises to overcome the drawbacks: I'll try it out...
Very good, I'm out experimenting in the backyard right now with an alcohol stove I fashioned from diet coke cans. It's burning to quickly.... I'll get it right. Thanks for the response brother.
The stand supports it wonderfully when the can is full, it's a very sturdy design. The only warning I'd give is to ensure the surface you're using is flat, a high center of gravity coupled with a narrow base spells trouble if placed on uneven terrain.
NEXT I'LL TRY a homemade beercan alcohol stove.. it is the only thing that looks feasable (better than what I use now), with the long burntime (liteweight) of the alcohol fuel!! looks like you would have to carry very little rubbing alcohol compared to other stove fuels! IT'S ALWAYS THE FUEL AND HOW MUCH YOU'LL NEED! great vid!!! GREAT VID!~!!
Hey, thanks for the support. My stove certainly isn't the best or most practical but I just need it to boil 12oz of water once or twice to reconstitute freeze-dried food on weekend trips. I think when I'm ready to upgrade to a more efficient stove, I'm going to get the Optimus Crux, those look nice.
thanx nver seen one from large can or that style.ALWAYS TRYING TO REDUCE PACK WEIGHT!!, Especially now that I carry filming gear! I bet you need to let it cool a little before storing. If i remember, that solid fuel turns almost liquId when lit or hot. I did not like how fast that fuel burns. trioxane tabs are similar but hotter. Over the last 15 years I've tried alot, now I use a gaz stoveset with very liteweight stainless nesting pots. MY buddy has swedish stove, cigarett pack size.
Its simple and to the point, I like this setup, you coud even use a tealight stove in place of the esbit. Glad you showed this off, gave me a few ideas.

once you snuff out the flame can you reuse the fuel tab if it has not completely burned?

@djmoose60 Supposedly you can. I've never reused one before, I always let them burn the rest of the way.

I wasn't real enthusiastic about solid fuel either, but its good for boiling water.

what's the solid fuel?

They're solid fuel cubes made by Esbit. They burn for about 13 min at 1400 degrees Fahrenheit. Not sure what they're made out of.

does the stand easily support the weight of the beer can when full of liquid? thanks

Thanks, I just like that a person ignorant in the outdoors (me) can use it without having to think much.

We learn as we go, understanding the ultra light way of backpacking is learned as we hike.
