I have no problem with tears being shed at a funeral...as long as they are shed out of love rather than guilt or for show. Sadness, like joy, is a unique emotion that God gave his perfect creation. I thought the tears shed for Bishop Patterson were a beautiful expression of eternal love and hope that by faith we might 'meet again'.
i never been to this church but i use to watch him every sunday..i grew up in a church just like this tho in ny.it was the tabernacel of prayer for all people..
Somebody plz tell me why do we say rest in peace (R.I.P) I've grown up N church and we never said such a thing! I want some1 to honestly tell me Why? BC I don't know. BTW I'm very familiar w/the song God be w/u till we meet again. But is this to the late bishop or the ppl BC u can't sing talk speak to ppl gone on 2 the next life. Thank U and God bless u.
@SINGUNTO The reason most people say rest in peace (R.I.P.) to those who have gone on is because they truly understand the New Testament scriptures. For when a person dies though the physical body is gone, the spirit yet remains and lies silent within the physical body waiting for the rapture when it shall be raised again just as Christ was after he was crucfixed. But when I die I want someone or the choir to sing: Ride On King Jesus or Caught Up To Meet Him
@SINGUNTO The saying, "Rest In Peace" is a product of the Roman Catholic Church & later adopted by other Christian faiths. At the time of it's "origin," it was merely a prayerful request that the soul should find peace in the afterlife. Or it's said as a short epitaph or idiomatic expression wishing eternal rest & peace to someone who has died. It had nor has Nothing to do with The Rapture nor the spirit remaining in the physical body after death. That is a "man-made" assumption & not Biblical.
Watching the entire funeral one gets the impression that Bishop Haynes wasn't so sad about the passing of the Presiding Bishop nor does one have the impression that he'd miss him all that much.
@dallaskenn WHAT MAKES YOU SAY THAT BISHOP HAYNES LOVED BISHOP PATTERSON SOME PEOPLE JUST DONT SHOW EMOTIONS THAT EASILY I DID MY BEST FRIEND FUNERAL AND SHOUT LAUGH AND DID NOT SHED A TEAR
Stop that foolishness. These men served together for many years. Just because someone doesn't weep openly, does not mean they do not feel any emotions. I didn't see many of the general board members actually shed tears but they loved and respected this great man of God. Please watch what you say.
i wish i could have met bishop Patterson,do to circumstances i couldn't.At that time i lost my nanny and my brother.I just want to say rest in peace bishop.i will miss you but you are free now.
I remember when Evangelist Louise patterson's sister called my grandma && told her that Bishop passed away......she came in the den, && told us. I was devastated. But I knew a GREAT man like him was going home happy with no worries.
the saddest part of a funeral(the casket being removed from the church). the song made it worse. it was a nice song but it was a slow song. when we do funerals at our church we usually try to keep it upbeat and have some good church
oNE DAY WE ALL WILL SUCCOMB TO THIS FATE.....Thanks be unto God Jesus has died for us, and arose from the grave for our justification ........We wil shake hands Bishop on that Great Day.....
They Did this ceremony and song this at my Bishop funeral last Friday. It tore the whole church up when Bishop Williams took the necklace and ring off Bishop Bryan and gave it to Bishop Blake.
i agree with ceecee5910 i truely miss Bishop But i know that His labor of love was not in vain. its now up to us to keep it alive and spread the gospel!
wow. i had never seen this. this was not just a bishop but a people's pastor. he took the church higher and brought from a long way. he was truly my bishop.
The biggest spiritual icon of "this genra" has passed. And there will NEVER be another quite like this man! Prayerfully God will rise up a generation of great leaders who can at least come close to this man's stature!
bishop ge patterson was a big infulence in my life and still is because him i am the great young minister i am today god bless his family this was my frist time seeing this it was touch because we are all brother and sisters in chirst . we all belong to god
This was a very touching selection...However, I do love the version that is on here done by The Barrett Sisters under the title "God Be With You"!!!!! Check it out...they were awesome to me...prob my favorite rendition that I have heard of this song!!!!!
Louise Patterson is such a classy lady. In my humble opinion she will always be the international first lady of the church of God in Christ wherever a COGIC is located.
Ya'll need to check out The Barrett Sisters singing this song on here under the title "God Be With You"!!! They are awesome but sadly never really got the credit they deserve!!!
When i die.. i wont my church family to have church.. i dont wont know sad funeral.. i know its sad im gon.. but have CHURCH!! Celebrate my life by givin God some praise.. I wont souls saved at my funeral.. im sorry.. I cant bare to cry at no funeral.. So Shout and praise God at my funeral..
@UdontKnow8 That's exactly how my Mother's Homegoing was. It was such a rejoicing that for just a little while, it took some of the pain away. My friends & colleagues who flew in from out of town later told me that they had Never heard a funeral preached & sung like that nor felt happy at a funeral. In my heart I could almost see my sweet mother smile. :-)
@UdontKnow8 Yes! I fully agree. I told my family the same thing. Rember my life but praise God for my life and what I have done to better the kingdom of God and the lives of anothers.
This part was always so sad to me. I couldn't bare to see a casket closed on my loved one. GOSH! Then someone wanna sing to make it worse. I just feel like I'm crushedd. = [
@yungkeyz That is the hardest part of a funeral, seeing a casket close for the last time. I just hate to see people cry when that happens. That why I stand outside of the church after they close it.
are one of those ministers around the casket before closing his son or relative...for a moment, i thought i was seeing things...he favor him so much...
Ya'll need to check out The Barrett Sisters singing this song on here, (they have it titled "God be with you.") It has to be the best version I have ever heard of this song!!! Love those ladies and love you too Bishop, you are greatly missed!!! Loved watching you on Sundays and I see that they have taken Bishop off the air this year, but like the song says...Till we meet again!!!!!
Ever since the day of the National Funeral, I wondered who that was. I thought that was sweet how she hugged, consoled and ministerd to Sister Lou as they closed the casket for the final time. This got me the day of the National funeral. Sister Lous is so classy and grieved in class. I've told my mom that I want her and my granmother closed when I walk into their funeral should they go 1st.
God rest your soul Bishop G. E. Patterson; when I was at my lowest point in my life. I wrote you a letter, and you wrote me back. I love you Bishop Patterson. I will see you on Judgement Day.
God Bless you Bishop Patterson. Take your rest. You have fought the good fight of faith and finished your course. Your witness is in Heaven and your record is on high
