  • (cont.) but the reason I respect her opinion was cuz she actually read it. I'm sorry in my viewpoint u don't hav that much cred if u read 2'paragraphs thought it was boring & then spurned it. Just my thoughtsXD

  • The "1st chapter" thing just bugs me... Like my friend read the entire 1st book & thought it was stupid. It's fine it's my friends opinion, she doesn't have to agree w/ me.

  • Im a potterhead not quite to the point of obsession but almostXD... Which obsession is not good but the reaso I say I'm not obsessed is because while I'm a little bit sad/angry wen ppl don't like Harry potter I respect their opinion & I can c the flaws in that series. The ONLY time I get really pissed is wen they go "oh, I couldn't get past the 1st chapter" um... The dursleys isn't the most exciting openening but it only gets better & more exciting once u get past the exposition stuff

  • OMG i had to read animal farm for class. You enjoyed it? I can't really say I liked it beacuse i fell asleep during the first chapter. Sorry, George. Just my thoughts.

  • You say that Stephanie Meyer just made vampires sparkly and called it a day. Stephanie Meyer has taken a chance and she's written what she's wanted to right. It's fiction, she wanted to make a vampire novel which wasn't stereotypical. That's the whole point of Stephanie's novels in this saga. I can see past the flaws of the book and still enjoy the saga. No attack intended.

  • @Grenny2507 i see what ur saying but don't you think that some rules do need to come in play when make a fiction book. No let's go past fiction we need to think about the myth and the clique story or vampires, u can't just go and change that. Just my thoughts.

  • I totally agree with you girlie. I'm subscribing now!

  • Also, you'd be surprised how many teens hate Twilight. I myself am 12 and hate Twilight series ( Not saga. A saga is a series that take place over a span of several years and Twilight takes place over about 2 years) almost as much as Justin Bieber.

  • is no one going to mention that if you have super sense of smell, garlic and other items with strong scents SHOULD bother them, but in Twilight, it doesn't?

  • Im an avid watcher of your videos! They're great and I repsect your opinions :)

  • i dont give a fuck about the whole romantic thing im also a potterhead and I hate the littleminded twilight heads.

  • Melissa is great as allways in her expression,

  • @MechanicalWood Lacuna Coil - Our Truth

  • Anne Rice solved the vampire issue of drinking human blood and trials of it: feed from the blood of the wicked humans. Lewie obviously couldn't survive on pigeons and rats (even if it helped their over population a little for the city). Why couldn't the fairies do the same?

  • Check out "WARS OF TIMES by LUN"

at Amazon and Barnes&Noble online bookstore

A world like you've never imagined before!!

  • i like your vids. you have a mature respectable point of veiw

  • You stated your point very well. Thumbs up to you. I also get what you mean about what you want to write and how it is not as marketable as the twilight crap. I say go ahead and write them anyway. Don’t worry about whether they will sell or not. Write for the craft. That is something Stephaney Meyers knows nothing about.

  • I just wanted to say that I love the sound of the stuff you're writing, and if you got it published, I would totally buy it. I am so tired of all this so called 'dark romance' rubbish. Proper 'dark romance' should be more like Wuthering Heights, not Twilight.

  • the queen of vampires in "Dance in the Vampire Bund" Mina Tepes is burned by the sun as well but she is small and beautiful :) so yea, you can make vampires gorgeous and flawed at the same time because not everyone is perfect. if they were, they'd be a mary sue/stu. oh btw, I WANNA READ YOUR BOOK! :D you can write whataver you want! real horror fans will love it for what it is

  • Truth is, you never know when the market could swing, and i would be glad to buy your book series just because you have done research and studied writing, which is very rare, and very important for a good story

  • Thank You so much for your thoughts on Meyers and marketing (i.e. Gossip Girl), very true and very impactful.

  • Don't worry about respect girl!

she doesn't give respect to anyone on youtube, she asked for some diet tips then she says if your not going to help," fuck off". no respect!

  • You're a very respectable and intelligent woman, I love your 'argument' and ability to point out the facts. Thank you for posting such a video filled with calm fact and not just raging against what irritated you.

  • I love how you are calm and NuttyMadam is just... Nutty! Ha! Thankyou for being logical :)

  • I used to like Twilight before I took AP English classes that made you analyze the material that you are reading (whether you like it or not it happens which can be sort of cool). When I started to read it from a critiquing point of view there were so many contradicting aspects and such that I was just like "Why the hell did I ever enjoy this?" I'm not bashing on anyone that likes it but I believe it's just terrible. I love vampires, but not sparkling pixies that are only vampires by name. Sorry

  • Very well thought out response. I completely agree. I would read your horror series, but I love all genres. The Harry Potter books are on my list of favorites, but The Count of Monte Cristo, Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera, and Anna Karennina come before it. I'd never read Sookie Stackhouse so when you listed all the similarities between it and the Twilight Saga, I was surprised--it seems like Stephenie Meyer used that entire plotline, but changed it to make it more shallow. Thank you!

  • I'm in the middle of writing a vampire book, is it okay to take out their immediate reaction to the sun, and allow them to be outside for, like, two hours or less before the sun affects them?

Oh, and I'm doing a Faerie series, too. I hope I don't screw up!!

  • @HellAngelsBells A delayed reaction would be understandable, but you'd have to explain and display it in a way that makes sense. Part of the sun allergy of vampires is their pale skin, so perhaps your interpretation will not be completely pale therefore the delayed affects against sunlight. Also do you know what a faerie is?

  • @DemonicRemption Delayed reaction. Got it. Thank you!

Um, yeah I think I do. I am writing a book that has Faeries in them, but I'm also researching facts about them. Why? Did you want to know, or see if I knew?

  • @HellAngelsBells I wanted to see if you knew, because of course there's a different between a faerie and a fairy. Not that much of a difference, but a difference none the less... Also have you heard of a series called "We Shadows," by Sonny Strait?

  • @DemonicRemption No, I don't think I have. What's it about? I don't get to go to bookstores for a long time--I have to stick to K-Mart, so I wouldn't know about most series.

With the Faeries in my book series, please don't bash me, but their like cousins to the incubus, and have long black leathery wings instead of those pixy dust things. But I do keep most traits about a Faerie. I'm not going to have them go all "FIRING MA LAZA" or anything. What is the difference between a Faerie and a fairy?

  • when you right a fiction series you creat your own universe and yes you can have anything you want happen in your universe but you still have to follow rules that you have set up in your fictional universe otherwise your story will seem childish and weak.

  • @thedeadcthulhu YAY! SOMEONE GETS IT! XD

  • Comment removed

  • @thedeadcthulhu Nope.

  • i probably would read your books

  • I greatly respect and admire you as a fellow author to be. PLEASE let me know when you finish your series, I can't wait to get started on it! I agreed with you completely. You're an amazing young woman.

  • Vampires are undead creatures plain and simple. Someone wants to use vampires and destroy them with a gay twist they should just make their own monster and call it something else. Everything has been done before so no biggy there. But Twilight just sucks. Nuttymadam is just a crazy freak show we all like to poke with sticks. She looks like one of Jerry's kids and rants in a manner that supports the look.

  • @drjx93 There is no limit on imagination, but that doesn't mean your story should not apply to any rules of logic or continuity, especially historical fact

  • @MelinaPendulum get over it! its stephanie meyers book. she can make it what she wants. she can have the vamps any way she wants.

  • @MsKristenJaymes ugh yeah im 100% sure that your a twilight fan.You should'nt get all pissy bitchy because she posted a mature point of view if you enjoy it then good. But dont get mad

  • @MelinaPendulum Exactly!!!

  • @drjx93 well you sound just like nuttmadam

  • I came across your video while laughing at nuttymadam with my friends :S mean I know lol

We just wanted to say, that you are a very intelligent young woman and we very much enjoyed your opposing opinion. We found it to be well thought out and we agree totally. We wish you luck and hope you'll become a successful author one day :) x

  • @summer07081982 Thanks to you and your friends

  • I really enjoyed your video. Your comments about vampires being the same as humans about food and all intrigued me. Although I myself am a vegetarian I still have a pet and think of them as being less than humans. Although I would like to think I don't I really do

  • I'm a teenaged girl, and your probably right about what teenaged girls like in literature. But I just want you to know that I would most definitely read any book you write!

  • Actually, I think your chances of making it are huge because you are very intelligent and you can write a story with an intriguing plot and I will buy your books and promote them aggressively like I would promote mine. Thank you for reading.

  • Animal Farm is a great book. I wish more writers wrote like that now of days.

  • You are one of the few people on the internet (or in real life for that matter) that can maturely get their point across. You actually put thought into what you said before you said it. I respect you for that. Unfortunately, the woman you are replying to has not quite gained that ability yet...

  • You have perfectly valid points, and (in my opinion) you shouldn't have to explain why they make sense.

*I can't wait to read your book by the way.

  • You made your points. You're very reasonable and smart, (unlike some twitard you were responding to). So I wish you good luck, and I hope you will fullfill your dream.

Harry Potter is also one of my faves and I know it has flaws but if even Stephen King said that Rowling is terrific writer then I think it's still a very good book, and it will remain in arcane like any other fantasy books ;) Making people enjoy their time.

  • persionally i believe if one wants to write a book on something with taking place in a certian area. one needs to do the research one the subject and the location being used at the setting of the book and the people and tribes in that area. stephanie meyer didn't do that.

  • Lord, I love you.

  • Honey, you are very smart. I agree with your points. When you write your books I will buy them for straight up!

  • I don't see my novel "Princess Of The Damned" being that popular, because a demon girl is fighting for her Salvation. And with so many people who don't understand christianity or emotion, I find (and hope for this to be the case) That the quality of my series will be acknowledged, but the book itself not "Twilight" popular.

  • I think i might like this book. Where can i see it/ buy it? I live in China, so it might not be easy.

  • I love your videos. There's so much more I could include in it, but that would take too long, and your point comes across very well as is.

  • The difference is, Twilight is praised for its storytelling and characters, those aren't as they are comedies.

  • teengirls are shallow and so they are attracted to shallow tv shows and shallow hollywood and shallow books. anything horror would freak them out and they won't read it. i personally am not fond of horror films of today because theye're all the same stupid blood everyone kill everyone kind of movies. so it is unlikely that i would buy a book about it or in that genre. i love the sookie stackhouse series.

  • If you wrote a book, I would buy it. I think that it's really cool that you want to become a writer and write for teens. I remember when I used to go looking for a book in the library in the teen section there were very few that didn't have some sort of romantic plot. I constantly found myself searching elsewhere for a decent story.

  • Melena, I love your videos. Your so intelligent and professional. I also want to be a horor-fantasy author as well but am discouraged by whats going on with the literary world right now.

  • ps. sorry i misspelled your name!!

  • I'm also discouraged by what's happening in the literary world... T_T I wanna be a horror fantasy author bu tI'm scared I won't be well received now. They'll say I'm copying or something! T_T

  • Thank you!! Yes its pretty disappointing and upsetting. I'm just hoping the situation improves for us authors/artists who actually respect and try hard to do well in the genres / artforms.

  • Well, even when you don't know, people would see similarities because it's almost a given that everything has been written already. Add your own twists - but I totally understand you.

  • Nice video, And hope your dream of becoming a writer happens. I look forward to reading your first book.

  • ur awsome

  • dude, if you wrote just a full-on horror/fantasy, i would totally buy it. there aren't enough writers who would write what THEY want to write. also, great rant :)

  • You're amazing. Thank you for agknwleging everything you have, especially Animal Farm. That book deserves far more respect than Twilight ever will.

I want to write novels more than anything (mostly Psychological Horror), but now I feel like my books will be dissowned because they don't fit the "Twilight Standard" among teens (especially girls)

  • Wow, I'm seriously impressed by what you said - you're a real credit to your peer group.

If you like 1984, maybe check out Brave New World if you haven't already done so. It's a fantastic book.

  • I know how you feel, I wanted to write horror for a while then I decided to do that as comics. But I'm more into writing Psychlogical...50% chance anyone would like it.

  • i am a 14 year old girl, and i personally cant stand romance.

  • I think your hat is FUCKING AWESOME.

    Where'd you buy it?

  • Hey if you write I book I'll read it :D I'm into those kind of books.

  • I am finishing a adult horror novel, the chances of that being published and actually hitting big are slim to non existing, mostly because market is flooded with mediocre or worse books published for easily impressionable audience.

Good stuff, that makes you think and reflect upon like 1984, are in short this days. Especially because kids don`t read as much and to gather these vegetable kids of nowdays, the books seem to need stupid plotless romances.

  • A fan, nay a FEMALE fan, of 1984 and Animal Farm gets my respect.

  • Yes, Animal Farm is the GOD of all the novels I have ever read. Animal Farm is the one of the best when it comes to deep thought. I'm glad I'm not alone in that aspect.

  • Read Kelley Armstrong or Franny Billingsley. They're really good fantasy/horror YA writers. Their characters aren't shallow and their plots are actually plots.

  • Veggitarian vampires have been doe too. Alexzander from Vampire Kisses doesn't drink human blood.

  • As well as Anne Rice's vampire Louis in the beginning of his vampire life. He only fed off animals.

  • True. The way people see twilight as orginal make me wanna cry...for better books.

  • I was always okay with people taking out certain things and adding new things yet they stick to some lore and you get the basics of what is going on - but twilight strips everything and its like... wow.

She made them accessories intead of dangerous as she claimed them to be - or what they are supposed to be. And basically banished any thought of the older vamp lores.

  • Oh my god, I JUST got in an argument with a twilighter about the Sookie Stackhouse thing, I'm subscribing =D

  • *stands up and claps*.....that is all ^_^

  • I want to read your book. Recently, I've been getting into horror. (I've just started the Shining by King and it's great!)

Your's is going to be a vampire series? I've been taking a break from those lately, Twilight ruined them. That and Vampire Kisses. Both books made my head hurt.

Though I'd still read yours. How far are you into writing it? I already like your fanfictions. Horror-Fantasy....Me want....

    Lots of Love,

    Kendall

  • Its a multi-supernatural creature book series there are vampires, witches, zombes, demons, etc..

I am right now working on the outlines for the second book

  • I still want. I can't wait to read it!!!

    -dances-

    (High of caffine)

  • @MelinaPendulum Does that mean you've finished the first?

  • @DarkKendall Have u tried True blood lately.

  • Vampires don't have to necessarily kill to survive... but I'm pretty sure that's hard to do

  • (sorry for my bad english)

    nyah, isn´t she sweet? *-*

    I would buy your book!

I always found that meyer took all the magic from the vampires and maked them to an kind of a super-human-species, who are so beautyfull, rich, perfect e heavenly peacefull and kind.

where is this dark an forbidden vampire-thing in the cullens?

thats why I fall in love with vampires, because they´re so obscure and, they´re night creatures.

  • Comment removed

  • I thought your arguments regarding the blood drinking aspect were very unique and strong. We kill animals for meat, which has protein.

A lot of vegetarians have protein difficiencies, so your argument really makes sense about the whole vegan vampire concept.

One thing I never understood, why don't the Cullens just raid a Bloodbank or something? And Carlisle works in a hospital, so he has access to blood, but hey, that would make too much sense right?

  • The Vampire Diaries came out in the 90's and Twilght's plot is really similar. Brooding vampire love intrests, mind readers, seers. It's like a well written version of Twilight.

  • Oh, and I also think it's quite amusing that you're here debating your points maturly while nutty's acting like a spoiled child screaming at us. I have a wierd sense of humour.

  • Wow, I love that you can get all you points across so clearly in the face of nutty, you set a good example here. You have a better understanding of storytelling and character than a lot of people I know, including authors. I think when everyone gets bored of the supernatural romance scene, a good horror fantasy would be a breath of fresh air.

  • NuttyMadam is a fine example on why Twilight fans worry me. That and along with the acid in the face thing (if you don't know what I'm talking about, you can easily google 'acid thrown over twilight'. It was mentioned on my local news). Seriously, Twiheads need to CALM DOWN. I understand obsession, but I don't push the things I like onto others and call those who hate it stupid. Everyone has thier own opinion, even if I don't like it. I put in my two cents and move on.

  • NuttyMadam severely underestimates the stupidness of teenagers in that rant. She may be speaking for herself in all that "we know what's-what" talk, but really... Calling us stupid for worrying about the book's influence, when I'm sure most of us have seen first hand how utterly asinine the young race can be.

  • wow...you take down powerful counterarguments. keep up the good work!

  • oh, and heyy.

    i don't kill animals to live. i'm a veggg. (:

and im sorry, i left you like four comments lol.

and in no way am i trying to attack you, i hope you understand that ahahhah.

  • lol

Its totally fine, I enjoy Twilight Fans comments as long as they are civil. We all have our opinions.

  • I really think that Nuttymadam is a Youtube partner and gets paid every time she makes one of those awful videos. (She gets so many views that ads appear on the bottom of her screen).

I don't know whether or not her ardor for Twilight is truly as fanatic as she portrays it, but I do think she's profitting from it.

  • Melina, as always you make your points amazingly, fairly and respetivly. I love your videos, and am glad I subcribed!

  • I'm a veggg too! :)

  • while i respect your opinion on this, i have one thing i have to say:

there is no actual proof of what a vampire is. i feel like stephenie meyer has all the right to make her version of a vampire. technically, she could be completely right about them. dracula could be a wrong version of them. so, that's all i've got to say. (:

good vidd thoughh. but i just love twilight.

  • Well, she has the right to like whatever she wants. I just don't think it was a good version. I think that she didn't want to make the books dark or have dark characters and yet had vampires... I feel she would have been better writing about a different kind of creature.

    lol

If vampires sparkled I would no longer be scared of them

But you are entitled to your opinion and you are not rude so I salute you ^^

  • I've watched some of your other vids and enjoyed them. Good to meet another horror writer. I write urban horror, generally dealing with insane characters and their loved ones.

    Subscribed :)

  • I agree with you.

If you became a writer...I would rejoice....it would be a breath of fresh air. I'm tired of how vampire's are being turned into these sparkly little playthings....lol Anyway, if you want to be a writer, go for it, and I'm sure you could write somethings worthy of note. More so than Stephanie Meyer could ever hope to do.

  • I'm reading Breaking Dawn and I was so ticked off at this one part where Bella begins to say how amazing it is to be a vampire and talks about insignificant being human was.

In short, Twilight makes me feel awful and it does not sympathize with me at all. I have no wish at all to be a vampire (especially a sparkling, fangless one). However, the HP series makes me feel good and it kind of points out that we all have choices, that everyone is loved, and that we are ALL special no matter what.

  • Yay, that comment made my day!

  • Girl, I love you so much for this! You just took every word out of my mouth!

  • I bought the book solely because Vampires were in it, I should have done research first because if I knew it was going to be a 500 + page book on sugary sweet, beyond unrealistic, romance between Bella and Edward, I would have avoided it. As far as writing goes, if you've got a story to tell [basically I chose the same age group too], then write it. Don't let anything stop you. Go for it! You never know that it will be a breath of fresh air for many.

    xoxo

  • Great points. The reason why Twilight is so popular isnt because its genius. Its because its shallow, predictable and safe. Saying Twilight is genius when the fanbase is primarily 14 year old emo girls is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Whats the genius we are all missing that stupid emo tweens are getting? I dont know....

  • You took the words right outta my mouth. Bravo!

  • I have a lot of respect for you. You managed to respond to nutty madam in a classy, polite, mature, and intelligent way. You have very good arguments and you present your points in such a way that others will listen. Nutty (female version of Chris Crocker), on the other hand states her views in an offensive manner that makes her lose all credibility and has nothing to back up her views.

  • i love 1984 !!!!

  • Double-Think is life lol

  • Thank You!! Best-selling does not guarantee quality.

    Nice vid :)

  • Only problem is, nuttymadam isn't intelligent enough to understand a word you're saying.

  • The sparkling isn't unique either, In season 5 of Angel, Spike sparkles XD

Also in the same season Illyria describes vampires at the 'beginning of time' to sparkle.

  • Bravo!

I actually liked the Sookie Stackhouse series. o_O Not the 'best-series-ever' by any means, but enjoyable.

  • claps has nuttymadam seen this

  • Bravo! took the words out of my mouth.

I hope you can get a book out. I'd read it.

  • Haha, as soon as you said Twilight isn't original, I thought of the Sookie Stackhouse series.

I'm reading the first one now and I was noticing all the similarities they had.
