Hi I'm new to ArmA and just recently downloaded the free version and I have a few questions. Is this all multiplayer? and if not how are you doing this? Also is multiplayer as intense as this? And do people even play online because I couldn't find a decent server.

@VxDeltaForce1xV ARMA II: Combined Operations, It includes Arma II and Operation Arrowhead. For sale for 15 bucks on steam!

Also be aware that ARMA 3 Is coming out sometime next year.

As for max settings...... i5-i7 CPU, 6-8GB RAM, 6950HD (or better) ATI card or 580 (or better) series NVIDIA should get you great framerates!

@dontforgetme1651435 my suggestion is read through bohemia interactive forums there are plenty of topics on this subject, but the jist is you NEED a cpu at a minimum clock of 3.4ghz, 2gb mem free (6gb is wasted on all games i cant think of one that uses 2-3gb fully), and for the minimum graphics a 5770 . Im runnning a 3.4ghz amd cpu, 4gb ddr3 mem and an amd 6950 and it runs at 30fps (a good framerate for this game it isnt cod so doesnt need 60fps) with 5000 viewdistance (avg for servers)

@dontforgetme1651435 no its not that you went over max requirements that fps goes down its prob the hyperthreading on intel cpus not being supported in the game and have buggy performance with it turned on, as for the mem if you have 6gb of mem (or whatever amount over 2gb you ahve) it simply wont use the amount over 2gb. The issue probably comes from having under 3.0ghz cpu arma is VERY cpu hungry as mentioned and it isnt optimized for over dual cores you need at a min a 3.4ghz cpu

@dontforgetme1651435 that 6gb of ram wont help you this game only uses 2gb max (engine limitation), last i checked it only used 2 cores and minimum gpu spec is 5770. Having your cpu clocked to 3.4ghz minimum is prob a must (preferably higher a lot overclock cpu's to 4.0ghz to run this better although recent patches have helped cpu load so prob isnt needed as much) oh and last i checked hyperthreading should be turned off the game (unless they fixed it) had issues with it

I just reinstalled Windows 7 and I don't have ArmA2 installed, I'm now running a raid0 config along with 2 5870's now. I'll install the game + patches and see what my frame-rates are. BUT My 22" only allow me to get to 1680x1050. My laptop has a 1920x1080 screen but its a 5870M GPU which is the equivalent of a 5770 I believe.

I can run this game at very high res and texture res with normal aa,af,pp effect, normal terrain and objects and it looks extremely good at 38 fps average according to benchmark ( arma 2 ), im using gtx 260 c216 superclocked , oh and 3000 distance, will a 5870 allow me to set everything to very high (aa doesnt matter) and 7000 distance?

@spartan1081990 Ok, i Just got around to installing the game. I ran everything at MAX except for AA (which was at disabled) at 1680x1050 and 5000 distance and got 39 average. That is with my crossfire enabled and an unpatched game.

3. Then you obviously made the mistake of comparing real time strategy games with a 1st/3rd Person Shooter. RTS games are made to handle shit tons of units... Arma2 is made to handle 432 chars max....

The final verdict is that its not the AI. Its more of the fact that in ARMA, they detail their chars so that they have great detail in first person and still have the same detail externally.

For your information, the AI doesn't stop when they're off screen. And why shouldn't I be able to have a hundred troops, many of which aren't even visible on the screen all at once? Since when is ARMA II labeled as a simulator for small combats? What's the whole point of having a simulator when you're limited to 50 AI, when even a 13 old game likeTotal Annihilation can control 5,000 AI even on a moderate system? And how about the huge Total War battles?

@bfr0d The AI is not what is slowing down your computer. FYI, I just made a scenario of 144 Blues and 144 Reds were spaced out around the largest map that comes with Operation Arrowhead. My minimum frame rate was 30 (with 40 of these units being in sight). I then took the scattered groups and grouped them all together, and my fps dropped down to 10 fps (thats 288 units in my sight). Running at 1680x1050. Graphics settings are all set between normal - highest.
