  • It really does sound like her & she sounds very laid back and relaxed. If it wasn't really her then whoever it was done a fighteningly good job of pretending to be Claire Danes and it's really quite random that someone would do that in the first place. I don't think it's wrong that you recorded it either, surely most young guys would record a telephone conversation with a hot Hollywood actress lol.

Either way it's a really interesting......and quite strange story!

  • As others have pointed out, its amazing how there are people saying it sounds just like her, and it sounds nothing like her. ;-p I believe it sounds just like her. So it was either her, or someone that sounds just like her. BTW, if you havent seen it since this happened, you REALLY need to watch My So-Called Life. Even after all these years, its still a fantastic show. Its a shame that she wasnt friendly at the airport. What a bummer...

  • .... I don't feel entirely convinced about all this - is she a journalist too or - just manages a magazine ? ... Please answer me quickly ! :)) Claire!... Regards from Castelinaria

  • I've watched a video from 1996 with her on Letterman and I compared the voices and the way of talking and it DOES look like her.

HOWEVER, there are many crazy people who can pretend almost perfectly their idols' voices and manias and those thing, so I guess it will never be possible to find out whether it's her or not ^^

  • it's definitely her !

  • That doesn't sound like her voice but, as we've all experienced, telephones really distort people's voices. The human voice is complex and telephones aren't quite fancy enough to capture pure sound.

She throws in details that are accurate.

It's very easy to fake something like this, but, if you're not faking it, then I doubt someone would call someone up and put that much time into faking it for an audience of one person.

In other words, we can know for sure, but you can, spinfly.

  • @ReliableInsider

Or rather, we can't know for sure whether the recording is fake, but you can, because you recorded the tape.

Why would someone -pretend- to be someone just to fool a stranger on the phone? She doesn't sound cagey enough to be doing something dumb like that.

    It's probably her.

  • There is no way this is Claire Daines. It sounds nothing like her. Nothing.

  • I think it sounds like her. As for people saying this is a bad reflection on you, well--at least it's different, and not another music video. She's very interested in talking to you. It's just a very bizarre situation!

  • It's her. It sounds just like her!

  • That sounds like her a some points. She makes some kind of witty comments like Claire Danes does. haha

  • Well, I have to say, I just watched like all 19 episodes of "My so called life" in a row and if that's not her on the phone than she's very good at simulating her voice. The intonation...the voice itself... I'd say yes, it's her, but who knows for sure? I'd deny it, too...don't know why.

  • If this isn't Claire Danes, then this girl is damn good at improv and a very, very creepy, stalkertastic person.

  • I am 99% sure it's not her, dude. Sorry.

  • I'm not convinced its her. I think the girl sounds a lot like Claire when she was younger, but I still don't think its her.

  • It's funny how people are saying, "It's DEFINITELY not her" or "I'm CERTAIN it's her" Truth is, there's no way of knowing for absolute sure.

Having said that, I've seen no less than 5 of her movies spanning her career and that sounds absolutely nothing like her. It was most likely a fan fulfilling a fantasy of being her favorite movie star for a short time.

If you fact-checked online, who's to say this girl didn't, too? Plus, why would the real Claire lie to you?

Signs point to no, I'd say.

  • This was the dawn of the Internet, and I was a lot geekier than almost anyone I knew. She may have more resourceful than myself and able to find answers faster than I could find questions to ask her, but I find it more likely that she was an obsessed fan who knew these things beforehand. That is, if it wasn't Claire herself.

I gave theories for why she might lie to me in the story.

  • That's what I meant--that she was a fan who had googled Claire incessantly and thusly knew lots of info that was available via the internet.

The "Why would she lie to you?" was a rhetorical question: The point is, she really had no reason to. She could've just as easily said, "Yes, it was me but I'm in a rush" or something.

  • Her voice is too high. Watch MSCL, she was 15, and her voice was lower at that age. Also, she doesn't seem like the type of celebrity (such as Miley Cyrus) to be on the internet chatting to random people.

  • Amusing, but no.

  • If you watch the old Letterman interviews, like the one from 96, it sounds just like her. She would have been eighteen then (during the conversation, not on letterman) so, at least to me, i wouldnt doubt that she was online, and was questioned about her fame, and called the guy up to prove it.

  • Thats so cool that you got to talk to her, and on top of that it was like a real conversation. And you would have to be a total idiot not to here the tone in her voice. That is most certainly her. Without a doubt. This is 97 where talking about. At first i thought her voice was a little to high, but i mean she's not acting or anything like that, therefore in normal conversation she would talk slighty higher and faster considering she was young at the time.

  • Hey friend, your investment in this is much more interesting to me than whether or not this is actually her. In my opinion, it says so much more about you than you realize and it is not flattering.

  • i dunno, i'm convinced it's her as well. i mean i'm definitely not going to definitively say that it is, but considering that it was 1997 and internet pranks like that would've been less common than they are now and the fact that it would take an AWFUL lot of time to get her accent (unless they were lucky enough to have a remarkably similar voice) right with all the right facts and her mannerisms so perfect, i'm leaning towards the possibility that it's her as more likely. keep trying to confirm

  • Dude, it's a great story, and it's an entertaining recording...

but she's putting you on. For your sake I hope someday you're able to find out that I'm wrong, and that it really was her, but from where I'm sitting you're talking to a bored girl who is messing with you.

  • it's not her, she doesn't speak that fast

  • ummmmm, that doesn'tsound like her peeps, lol - wishful thinking on your part spinfly ;)

  • Based on interviews I've seen and the way she speaks it does indeed sound like her. Maybe she had a few beers or something and was a bit bored. Celebs are often lonely. Who cares really.

  • no that is not claire i can tell by the voice at first it does sound like her BUT as she goes on you can tell in the Voice Tones that it is some girl playing with you maybe her friends told her she sounded like claire and so maybe she mimicked her Voice But No i Truley Think it is not Claire Danes you can tell as she Goes on

  • whether it is Claire or not, i have to say that recording your conversation with her & putting it on youtube is pretty low in my opinion.

She called you coz she trusted you enough to not think you'd post your conversation on the internet. you really abused that trust.& we wonder why famous people have trust issues?

Also, having had the conversation on in the background whilst typing this, not actually listening to it, her voice towards the end doesnt sound so much like Claire Danes.

  • Based on how I have been treated by celebrities in the past (other than Claire Danes), I'm not entirely sure that they are all that trustworthy, either.

Either way, if it is in fact Claire Danes, and she wants me to take it down, all she needs to do is ask.

  • god u people r so gullible!!!!!!!

  • sounds like her to me

  • i'll believe it.

  • this could be any motha fucka for alll we no!!!

  • that is not claire danes

  • i'm positive that's her.

  • She sounds like Angela Chase.... And that's enough to convince me it really is Ms. Danes. :-P RIGHT ON!

  • It's really weird....how...and who's this director ?

  • To everyone saying her voice is high pitched... have any of you ever picked up a phone in your life? It always alters people's voices. The thing it doesn't alter is the timing, inflections, words, and chuckles all of which, in my opinion, are spot on.

I have no idea who this video director is, nor do I really care. I'm just offering my honest opinion that this is very likely Claire Danes.

  • Not Claire Danes. Not her voice. Nope.

  • I don't think this sounds like claire danes . . . this person's voice is a lot higher

  • wait! it might be . . . oh man that's a hard one hahaha good luck finding out the truth!

  • Well, I'm not an expert on Claire Danes by ANY means, but I have been listening.

Some of the things she says would be easy to find out if the right person "casually interviewed" her.

The shit about U2, Calista Flockhart, Chevy Chase, or even her friend Ally who went to UCLA.

The subtle mention of some of these things, I'm sure, if it WAS her (and she didnt see this vid) she would NOT remember that phone convo enough to try to HIDE it if she WERE asked "the right way".

  • IDK, I watched some of her letterman interviews from the same time period, and the voices are very similar. On the other hand I find it hard to believe that being "famous" and all she would be naive enough to call a total stranger on the phone (even if she was only 18 at the time)

I hope you find out one way or another though. Whomever is on the tape sounds really sweet, and there is nothing really bad on there so glad you posted it.

  • That is not her. It sounds nothing like her.

  • omg, when she says 'you don't even understand how dumb i am...', it really really sounds like her. i kind of believe it. but i still dont know. weird!

  • Sounds nothing like her. Watch her and then listen to this... No voice connection what so ever.

  • The inflections in her voice are all wrong, the pitch is also wrong, and the laugh is horribly faked haha, sorry dude

  • I completely disagree, packrat182. I've been a fan for years and this sounds JUST like her.

  • umm u sound kinda like leonardo dicaprio...lol

  • In my humble opinion it certainly sounds like her !! Listen to any of the interviews here on YT and the voice matches. Also if it was a con she would be name-dropping all the time. Instead it is all so natural (ok the occasional name) . Where is part one??.....

  • This was a great upload. It really got my interest. Can't be sure either way if it's her or not, but I certainly wouldn't rule it out. How exiting! She speaks very confidently about her experiences, and at times sounds very authentic. If it was her, what a shame she denied it at baggage claim. If it wasn't her, then she knows fairly intimate details about the real Claire Danes' life, during a period when such information would be difficult to access instantly. What a claim to fame...if it's her.

  • Wow, I just had a thought. Maybe she will come across this whilst browsing YT. Do keep us updated. Ty.

  • Omg it kinda sounds like her but then again it doesn't...I don't know what to think..I think her voice is a little too high to be claire danes...

  • Having listened futher, I'm inclined to change my mind. Irregardless of whether someone else could have known those things, it's the casual way she drops them around and some of the insider talk she uses--a 19-year-old pulling a prank wouldn't be so smart, I don't think. Plus she has a very distinctive laugh--comare it with her voice on Letterman and Leno appearances, also on Youtube. It's harder to fake a laugh than an overall voice.

  • I agree.

  • But I hasten to add, if it was her she wouldn't admit it, for obvious reasons. You could then sell it to a tabloid, for example, and who can blame her for wanting to keep her privacy?

  • I see what you're saying, but what tabloid would buy it. It's 11 years old, and available on Youtube. Though she may still not want to admit it publicly, it would be nice if she privately contacted the uploader to confirm.

  • No, you don't see what I'm saying. Reread the original story and my comments.

  • What are you talking about? Unless your point is intricately encrypted, I think I got the gist.

  • Doesn't sound like her to me, though she surely sounded different in 1997, probably less polished. I have a feeling, though, someone was pulling your leg. But who knows?
