my grandpa was raised in this area. I grew up in Mt. Airy, born in Galax. I've been living in Lynchburg for a 30 yrs now. Thanks a bunch for this. Been up and down this road many a time.

Love it. We go up this mountain all of the time. It's a curvy ride, not for those flatlanders!

The overlook up there that is now closed off with a gaurd rail...was one of my favoite spots as a teenager. I loved going to look at the lights.

technically true. The road is Pipers Gap Road so everyone I know always refers the to the ride as 'going up Pipers Gap'
