  • i take your point, but it does sound overblown and pretentious, thinking that they went through some great hardship and soul-searching to basically pretend to be someone else for a few months. i just think it would be refreshing for an actor to come out and say something like "i tried my best in the role, yet its not exactly difficult, memorising lines, being told where to stand and trying not to laugh for a living".

  • It's the difference between actors and character actors. Anyone can memorize lines and pretend, but trying to convince an audience that you are someone else is slightly diferent.

  • "i was looking for his soul"

exactly the sort of thing a pretentious actor would come up with!

  • I don't think you where listening to the first part of what he was saying. It does make a lot of sence, when you're portraying someone, to try and imagine what their thoughts and feelings are. But this is a long sentence, so to sum all of that up at the end of a monologue is something humans do, to simplify their point. Thereby shallow haters get something to point their sticky fingers at.
