In those days (before 1920 or so), Joachim Raff was considered one of the greatest, most famous composers of all time. It wasn't necessarily that Pachmann had a soft spot for him, it's that in those days, he was bigger than Mahler, about as big as Brahms, and so on. I consider Raff one of the greatest composers ever to this day, and I religiously buy his music.
