Kind of sad that not more people played Shenmue, only the hardcore gamers played this that I know. And I'm talking 25+ here, the older generation of gamers. This was and still is the best RPG because it was so original, intuitive and capturing.
We may never get another game like this, so those who had the fortune of playing it, be happy you did.
@saindst I'm 21, but ye you're pretty much right, I used to buy dreamcast monthly magazine and I read the preview for Shenmue and i came in my pants, then when i bought it i dont think I slept for a couple days playing it, the second wasn't as good cause it was more work based but definitely one of the best purchases of my life.
If the question came up about "if you won the lottery how would you spend it", it would go on developing the shenmue sequels. What a shame

Udon make comic books for Capcom, there are Darkstalkers comics even though there has not been a new Darkstalkers game in over a decade, so why don't Sega do a deal with a comic/graphic novel publisher and finish the Shenmue story that way (which would not close the door on a Shenmue 3 if Sega wanted to).

I've still got a dreamcast with shenmue 1, 2 and a shit load of other games, they're still as good as when i first played them. Truly amazing soundtrack, kudos to whoever uploaded.
No other game has ever made me feel as though I was the character. I felt every emotion from Ryo Hazuki as if it were my own. Shenmue is truly a masterpiece...

I really wish a Japanese language with English subtitles version of the first game would be released. The Japanese versions are either Japanese with Japanese titles or English with Japanese subs (Shenmue US) :-(
my bro played it when i was little like 8 and i couldnt stop watching it...now im 16 and i still play it for xbox compadable...but nothing compared to sega version...they need to make a new one..and i cant just stop playing this game...the music beautiful and the story line is sad hearting....so shenmue r.i.p and well always have u n our hearts and by our side when we look at anything with dreamcast on it or shenmue logo on it...
@mastershake644 I was waiting for part 3 but I guess its not happening. Part 1 and 2 were both great, and they both had great music in them. Part 1 mostly had Japanese traditional music, part 2 had Chinese traditional.
Don't give up hope! Sega is thinkin about making the 3rd one finally but they need a console to put it out on...They are not sure that it will sell well enough to make a good profit because, even though the Shenmue following is strong...it is limited over here in the U.S.

They need more money, and to test the waters before they make another Shenmue, such an undertaking will require alot of money. They should release Shenmue 1 & 2 on XBL/PSN to see if the fanbase is willing to play it.
If they don't and make Shenmue 3, they'll go bankrupt and nothing will bring them back.
@viperxeon Alot of people have been raving about them potentially doing that (realsing the first two games on the PSN/XBL networks). And I hope they are doing a little market research, and not just in North America, just in case.
@viperxeon I know this is an old comment but.....I heard sega are doing quite well with their games (SONIC SONIC SONIC). I think that they don't want a shenmue 3 because it's not worth the time and effort when they don't even think it will sell all too well. It's sad really but that's business in the real world.
First of all, there are many console they can put Shenmue on. Shenmue II was on the Xbox. And secondly, they have absolutely NO plans for a 3rd one. They said that in a video. Search "No plans for Shenmue III".
@Cheetah1251 Sure there are but no plans right now because it's a TOUGH market for a game that took forever to build it's now ENORMOUS and strongly followed fan-base. I hope they will turn back to Shenmue once they are done with Yakuza games.

Sega recently announced they are putting the rights to the game up for bid between Sony/ MS/ nintendo. Hopefully one of the companies buys it and developes it.
If they have money for new Virtua fighters, (I didn't see any production value cut backs in Virtua Fighter 5) Monkey Ball games, Sonic the Hedgehog ect, I think they can swing a Shenmue. So uh.. stay in school pmcommando.

Sega needs to complete this series and release all of the games onto a single system. All three current gen systems could recreate the graphics of the Dreamcast and I think they should keep the graphics in line with the first one. This is an unfinnished symphony that Sega has no reason NOT to finnish.

@greenmotorcar Sega has all the reason in the world to not finish this series. Despite all the supportive sentiment behind everybody's words now, sales didn't support the intial investments into the first two games. These games cost a lot to make and the fan base is probably just not big enough to cover the costs of a third installment. Remember, above all else, Sega is a business...and businesses do not like to make unprofitable decisions.
@dexterneptune I know for sure a well made Shenmue title would easily outdo trash such as Sonic the Hedgehog on the X360 and PS3. Also, the reason sales didn't support the first two games is because the DC had a small base, and most people who had a DC moved from DC too PS2 when the DC failed and not the Xbox where Shenmue 2 appeared. As a buisness, it is dumb if you choose failing systems and times to release games and then blame the games. If the games went to all systems, they would profit.

I bet SEGA are actually developing Shenmue III behind the scenes, but telling us they're not. Someone'll just walk in a gamestore on 11th November, 2011, and say, "Hey! Shenmue III's out!"

I'm pretty sure SEGA have a very good idea what they themselves are doing. They tend to deceive their consumers a lot (in both good and bad ways), but they're always fully aware what's going on behind the scenes.
Shenmue is so epic. I didn't even play I just watched scottishduck17 play through both games and it was still one of the most epic games I've ever seen.
My point is that people as gamers also have the responsibility towards the outcome of the types of games that come out. It's not all Sega's fault :) Thank you once again for sharing this wonderful music.

It would be very interesting that a third volume of Shenmue would be available, but like it has already been mentioned here, Sega made Yakuza thinking that gamers would rather prefer a more GTA version of Shenmue. Maybe most of them did prefer that.

Shenmue is amazing, there is no other game like it out there. no other game makes me feel as comforatable as this one. the second one was just as good as the first, just had a differant feeling.
its a shame that the dream cast version of shenmue 2 never came to America. i heard it was one of the best games ever and better then the first. AND THAT SAYS SO MUCH cuz the first is INCREDIBLE!
Shenmue II is fantastic mate - but slightly darker than Shenmue I and for me - it wasnt as good bacause the original experience of Shenmue I was unbelievable.
The last part though, wen Ryo travels to Guilin is just mind-blowingly beautiful.

They need more money, and to test the waters before they make another Shenmue, such an undertaking will require alot of money. They should release Shenmue 1 & 2 on XBL/PSN to see if the fanbase is willing to play it.
If they don't and make Shenmue 3, they'll go bankrupt and nothing will bring them back.

@viperxeon Alot of people have been raving about them potentially doing that (realsing the first two games on the PSN/XBL networks). And I hope they are doing a little market research, and not just in North America, just in case.

@viperxeon I know this is an old comment but.....I heard sega are doing quite well with their games (SONIC SONIC SONIC). I think that they don't want a shenmue 3 because it's not worth the time and effort when they don't even think it will sell all too well. It's sad really but that's business in the real world.

First of all, there are many console they can put Shenmue on. Shenmue II was on the Xbox. And secondly, they have absolutely NO plans for a 3rd one. They said that in a video. Search "No plans for Shenmue III".

@Cheetah1251 Sure there are but no plans right now because it's a TOUGH market for a game that took forever to build it's now ENORMOUS and strongly followed fan-base. I hope they will turn back to Shenmue once they are done with Yakuza games.

there was a tale.....a company went down the hill with n64 and gamecube...no one believed in a comeback but they did....and 2011 is maybe the year nintendo will be king again....
sega is sega, and will always be sega, and some fine day Shenmue III will see the light of day, and even if i'm old then....i will smile,buy and play the game

Sega recently announced they are putting the rights to the game up for bid between Sony/ MS/ nintendo. Hopefully one of the companies buys it and developes it.

If they have money for new Virtua fighters, (I didn't see any production value cut backs in Virtua Fighter 5) Monkey Ball games, Sonic the Hedgehog ect, I think they can swing a Shenmue. So uh.. stay in school pmcommando.

this game is a real eye opener, its AMAZING!!! I've completed both shenmue and shenmue 2 about 3 times each i jujst cant get enough of them, wish they brought out shenmue 3... i read it was on hold i might be coming out late 2010... fingers crossed..................

Sega needs to complete this series and release all of the games onto a single system. All three current gen systems could recreate the graphics of the Dreamcast and I think they should keep the graphics in line with the first one. This is an unfinnished symphony that Sega has no reason NOT to finnish.

@greenmotorcar Sega has all the reason in the world to not finish this series. Despite all the supportive sentiment behind everybody's words now, sales didn't support the intial investments into the first two games. These games cost a lot to make and the fan base is probably just not big enough to cover the costs of a third installment. Remember, above all else, Sega is a business...and businesses do not like to make unprofitable decisions.

@dexterneptune I know for sure a well made Shenmue title would easily outdo trash such as Sonic the Hedgehog on the X360 and PS3. Also, the reason sales didn't support the first two games is because the DC had a small base, and most people who had a DC moved from DC too PS2 when the DC failed and not the Xbox where Shenmue 2 appeared. As a buisness, it is dumb if you choose failing systems and times to release games and then blame the games. If the games went to all systems, they would profit.

I bet SEGA are actually developing Shenmue III behind the scenes, but telling us they're not. Someone'll just walk in a gamestore on 11th November, 2011, and say, "Hey! Shenmue III's out!"
Anyway, this is the best piece of music in Shenmue. This isn't the best arrangement, though...

Well, it's confirmed that Shenmue III is written on script, but no game.
I think some ex Sega worker said that voice scripts where made. But you never know with Sega, they keep quiet about alot of things.

I'm pretty sure SEGA have a very good idea what they themselves are doing. They tend to deceive their consumers a lot (in both good and bad ways), but they're always fully aware what's going on behind the scenes.

Greetings to you all. I am happy to be able to read such lovely comments regarding one the richest pieces of creativity and profound meaning I have ever come across to in my life, which is Shenmue. It would be very interesting that a third volume of Shenmue would be available, but like it has already been mentioned here, Sega made Yakuza thinking that gamers would rather prefer a more GTA version of Shenmue. Maybe most of them did prefer that.

Shenmue is amazing, there is no other game like it out there. no other game makes me feel as comforatable as this one. the second one was just as good as the first, just had a differant feeling.

Shenmue II is fantastic mate - but slightly darker than Shenmue I and for me - it wasnt as good bacause the original experience of Shenmue I was unbelievable.
The last part though, wen Ryo travels to Guilin is just mind-blowingly beautiful.
