  • Laugh at the Pacer all you want. Detroit copied a lot of features off of this car that are still used today. The Taurus in 1986 was very similarly styled and Chrysler used the cab-forward design to increase interior room in their Concorde/LHS/Intrepid vehicles.

  • I always wanted to fill one up with dirt and plant stuff back there.. viola! A rolling greenhouse!

  • Looks a lot better than a Cube, Prius,Element,or anything for that matter on the roads today.

  • I got laid in a pacer once, who would have known?

  • A fishbowl :D

  • Wider would work for the US population because we're wider than we were in the 1970's

And pardon me. Would you have any Grey Poupon? :P

  • i love this car

  • This is a very accurate commercial. The best thing you could do to a Pacer is to drive another car into it. Preferably at about 90 mph.

  • @videotrains EPIC! rofl Had me rollin dude. :D

  • @videotrains OH MY GOODNESS that is TOO FUNNY!!

  • AMC getting on the "Pontiac Wide Track stick" abit too late. LOL

  • Comment removed

  • EVEN IN TODAYS WORLD , PACER WOULD SLILL LOOKS UP TO DATE . NOT LIKE OTHER CARS LOOKS LIKE CASKETS...

  • The best choice of transportation for Suburban losers everywhere.

  • Pacer looks like a pregnant Pinto!

  • Fishbowl

  • best car ever

  • @tallzdatank So you think ugly women are attractive. LOL

  • Well, I have to respond to the scoffers on behalf of the late great AMC. First off, I am old enough to have seen this car when it was new. A lot of people I knew thought it was pretty good looking, and said the ride was really nice -with all the glass around you it was "like a spaceship!"

Second - Pacer, Gremlin, AMX -- I'll concede the Gremlin wouldn;t win a beauty contest, maybe -- but AMC cars were at least distinctive in an era of lookalike shoeboxes. Pacer FTW, still want!!

  • No way the Pacer is a cool car.

  • "Everything about the Pacer....the width...the room.... the doors....the ride....make it what it really is.....

    ________________________

............the most fucking butt ugly POS to ever consume gasoline on the American Road. No wonder AMC went down the tubes backwards......ass, feathers, and all. Who wants to drive a greenhouse on wheels that rides like a four horse wagon? At least AMCs Jeep division survived, and is now making some of the best looking SUVs on the road.

  • @Lex5576

Why not tell us how really feel about it, though?

  • Love at first sight, my second love was back in the sixties when the family piled into the two tone purple/pink Rambler Wagon! :)

  • sad thing about the pacer. Is that it was designed to be front wheel drive ,but GM fucked them on the drivetrains

  • amcs ....ugliest but the best cars ever made. at least they had true quality.

  • the 70's produced some of the ugliest cars: Hornet, Gremlin, Pacer, Pinto

  • @msmithstud

The hornet was not an ugly car. What was so ugly about it. It still looks good today.

  • This is a prime example of a car built using ideas that sounded great in the executive boardroom but in fact did not work so well once the final product went to market. "Wide small car" sounded like a great idea in the '70's when everybody wanted comfort but needed economy. Seriously, can anyone tell me how ANY wide small car would not look wierd? The Pacer was also originally intended to have a rotary engine. Thank goodness AMC went with their standard in-line six.

  • These things cornered as flat as a pancake even at very 'unsafe' turning speeds.

Right turns were a blast, especially with a new passenger. Getting off the line...not so much of a blast. But I'd love to be able to see one of these ''ugly'' (not) things in my driveway again. Next one would be my third. I have owned 2 1971 Buick Rivieras too but I miss my humble Pacers just as much if not more.

  • Everyone's a critic! This car was as Unique and Innovative as Ford's Edsel, another misunderstood nice car. This "wide small car" was a great idea! They sold well until its last year, in 1980! Remeber, Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder!

  • Between the 74 Matador coupe and the Pacer, AMC squandered their paltry reserves on a lot of tooling for cars that were just 4 wheeled freak shows. This was the beginning of the end of AMC, some would call this a mercy killing.

Other than the purchase of Jeep, pretty much everything that AMC did since the departure of George Romney in the early 60's was stupid.

  • you just watched car buttsex

  • I guess you can’t park this car in the compact parking space.

  • I think everyone was brainwashed by all the jokes etc. in the 70's into thinking it was "the ugliest car ever made" at a time when cars were square shaped, and so it's reputation as "ugly" has stuck, but I think the Pacer was just ahead of it's time. I like the way it looks.

  • @spencereng you must be on crack it was and always will be an ugly gay cheap fart car

  • @siecko1997 Tell that to Garth Algar, the car is awesome.

  • Fish-bowl car

  • I almost bought one of those in 1977. I did a lot of driving and I wanted the economy of a small car with the room of a midsize. This was ugly as sin but it had what I wanted - except a salesman who was willing to negociate. I wound up with a Pinto.

  • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... I think it is a pretty cool. America was better off when it had many car companies.

  • quite possible the ugliest car ever built!

  • Fugly

  • ugliest car in the world.

  • The voiceover sounds like HAL!

"Open the pod bay door, HAL"

"I'm sorry, Dave, your pod is too ugly."

  • The AMC Pacer was the ugliest bugeyed gargoyle car I ever drove. I quit a job once because it was a company car. Pacer went 0 to 60mph in 4 1/2 hrs @ 8mpg since the greehouse effect of all that fishbowl untinted glass necessitated running the AC full blast all the time. People got 'see sick' from it. I parked it 2 blocks away from my destination to avoid the humiliation of witnesses seeing me get into it. The AMC Pacer ran best when shoved off a cliff.

  • @apparition2 this one looks kinda life the old Saabs on the styling but they were some ugly cars inside! cheap! gawd!

  • wider'eh, better'eh, Ja, ja..

  • These things are fucking HUGE inside. Its like sitting inside of a giant fishbowl or something...

  • Vam pacer

  • It seems that all of the AMC vehicles shared the same platform....even the Jeeps. I had a CJ-7 and if you lookeed inside, you could have been looking at a Gremlin or Pacer from that era.

  • Car companys discontinued the vent windows due to cost-they were expensive to install. On larger cars full sized cars like Cadillacs, Pontiacs, Chryslers you could order power vent windows. GM started to dropped them in 1969 with Ford being the last to offer them in the 1980s.

  • That Pacer better be spayed or there'll be a litter of little Pinto-Pacers all over the place soon.

  • But can it "squeal like a pig" while the Pinto, Vega, Maverick, Comet or Nova is inside of it?

  • ahhhh...the fishbowl on wheels!

  • @1968yoshi Yeah I remember the 'fishbowl' nickname, hee hee.

  • the pacer was was great for hauling fat chicks

  • @21leftcenter Or a whole lot of skinny ones. I know, I had one.

  • @21leftcenter lol the Pacer Station Wagon was the perfect whoppin' lardie trawler!

"Hey fat grrl- are you ticklish?"

  • my dad has a pacer

  • @mackenziea11 .I am sure he was made fun of alot. LOL

  • My Parents saw this as a UFO with the headlights and the shape.

  • It looks ghastly.

  • Oh jesus. I saw a Pacer back in 1989 that was hauling a horse trailer, with one horse. I died laughing.

  • Best car ever made, PERIOD!!!

  • power vent windows?

  • @coldplays179 power windows go back to the 40's for the amry in the mid 50's they started putting them in cars but some cars used crank windows up to the early 2000's

  • @2010mustang2 thats not what I was referring to, I meant power "vent" windows

aka- the ones that were popular on Lincolns and expensive fords in the late 70s and early 80s

    also nick named smoking windows

this pacer appears to have a similar set up

  • @coldplays179 They look like the manual, hinged vent windows (with the latch at the front) that were ubiquitous until the early '70s. I heard that they made it possible to break into a car in 10 seconds.

  • god i want one of those

  • The door map pocket can easily accomidate a 15 lb sack of potatoes

  • the pacer was so wide that parking the thing in small parking spaces is of course problematic as many a former owner will testify...

  • They did up a Pacer for a "pimp my ride" episode some ago. Actually looked pretty cool!

  • @Navdan87 ya i saw that. turned out yellow with shag carpet inside. i did turn out pretty cool looking.

  • Adorable,cute little AMC Pacer!

  • ha ha the noves a transformer

  • what the f#@k were they smoking when they designed this little booger...lmao

  • Garth and Wayne's car.

  • ok so what's the differance between this and the gremlin?

  • Uhm.... everything???? The Gremlin shares NOTHING with the Pacer other than engines, transmissions and steering wheels. The Pacer was all new.

  • Not the ugliest- that would go to Pontiac Aztec!!

  • @Navdan87 Totally!.....the Aztec was proof that nobody did ugly as well as GM.

  • @Navdan87 Close but no cigar. LOL

  • @TheLizardKing1967 , you're probably right! Haha!

  • @Navdan87 I agree with you. I saw someone driving a black Pontiac Aztec today and thought of this post. I said to myself, how in the world would anyone with half a brain be caught dead driving one of these god awlful cars. LMAO

  • a prius or an insight would smoke this thing in an ugly contest

  • @irocthief really cause i think the prius is uglier than this

  • @irocthief sorry i meant that this is uglier than the prius

  • Love mine !

  • I infact love this car, you think this is bad, try seeing a toyata yaris every day of your life, how I've wanted to smash those cars up

  • me too!! I hate most new "cars", 50s to 70s are the way to go in car design and styling atleast.

  • Very possibly the UGLIEST car in the history of automaking...

  • the history maybe, but now days there are MANY cars that beat it.

  • yeah no shit dumbass of coures they beat cuz oh yeah did you forget it was 2009 you fucking moron

  • aww, a pinto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! those were notorious for blowing up were the gas tank was!

  • Pinto: The Barbeque that seats four

  • who ugly car for ever

  • i have a 1977 amc pacer :D freakin sweet lol

  • Good souvenir thanks...

  • well atleast it ain't the ugly ass gremlin

i see too many of those here

  • Consider yourself lucky. Do you know what it's like to see Toyota Yaris every second of the day?! What's worse, some people actually try to modify those things! As if they have potential!

  • These were quirky cars! I always thought it was cool how the right door could open more than the left one! Very subtle too! Just like the Gremlin these also get a corny rep today unfortunatly

  • I remember it too!

  • bohemian rhapsody must play!

  • Oh boy, I've been waiting for someone to upload this commercial. I remember it so clearly from 1975
