I arrived in Hana in 1973 and didn't leave the islands for 18 years. We gathered food and fished without hassels. When I left in 89 it was turning into a zoo. Somehow it still retains its beauty but the vibes during tourist season can get ugly. Eight lane hiways??? Respect the Ahina please. PS Geothermal is a killer and needs to be stopped.
sorry but Maui has already been turned into a circus ...HONOPIILANI Highway has 8 (!!!!!) lanes now...MAKENA is totally developped now ( the road to BIG BEACH used to be straight through da woods) ... LET`S THINK before we pave it all with tarmac and concrete!! Cauz places like these are sooooooo rare ..... MAUI STILL HAS ITS MAGIC but PLEEEEEEASE lets CHERISH them !!!
i work construction. maui is going to turn into the next honolulu in the next 20 years. so yups maui is going to be next. foreignors making money off hawaii with houses and they dont live here so who cares bout traffic and polution. right!
I use to California, but my wife and I fell in love when we visited Kihei and the people. Everyone is laid back which I appreciate.I thought Paia and Hana were even more peaceful. My godfather is part Hawaiian, and lives in Makawao(upcountry Maui) and loves it.
@Soulquarium Hi..I was in Kihei in 98 at the Aloha Market Place..the outdoor place with all the fun vendors.I made the big sign! Did my art and face painting there for three months. Lots of fun. I love it there too!
Maui, and especially Hana are made for people who still want to live in peace and harmony away from everything. The air is perfect, the people are friendly, the beaches are great. One of the most beautiful places on Earth.
i agree with you a 100%....my whole family is from there, but im from Oahu. Oahu to me, is too populated and noisey thats y i look forward to going back there every single time.
Hana is very beautiful and peaceful. ps: i jumped off that rock ^.^
