  • Great record, went to Louie Silvanni's home in th Bronx and bought it for 7 bux in 1970.

  • - @ Eddiedoowop ... Bob Isbell is credited for Bass Vocal on High Blood Pressure. If it's not him on Dearest Darling (You're The One), then I haven't a clue.

  • One of the absolute best songs from 1959.Thank tou for sharing this gem.

  • Great stuff, this. Thanks for availing it to us.

  • Bobby was an Ace stablemate in the late 50s

  • One Of His Truly Best From "59"

  • Exquisite Sound

  • This song is included on the 1991 ACE (UK) CD, "20 Great Doo Wop Recordings". This CD was re-released on the CASCADE label in 1997. The lead vocalist is almost certainly the late fabulous female impersonator, Bobby Marchan. Huey was the band leader and piano player, not the singer.

  • Yes, I'm sure that's correct. Thanks for this. Taking this into account I will amend my description.

  • @petercrowley41 Does anyone know who sang Bass in the group? Outstanding pipes!

  • how did this great song get overlooked by the record company?? I played it over and over

  • I'm surprised they left this off the best-of CD. I mean, I could've done without "Tu-ber-cu-lucas And The Sinus Blues" in favor of this instead.

But I couldn't do without "Beatnik Blues" or "For Cryin' Out Loud." They're just too silly to live without.

  • Good call nri1969 regarding those songs though I don't know the CD you are writing about. Which company put it out? I got a little stuck, technologically speaking, with 45s (and a few LPs) and don't have much idea about what's come out on CD in recent years.

  • EagerBoy59,

The CD is called "Having A Good Time with Huey 'Piano' Smith & His Clowns," put out in 1997 on the West Side label, out of London.

Address on the CD is: 174 Mill Lane, London NW61TB, telephone # 0171-433-3908, no web address given.

The CD is optimistically subtitled "The Very Best Of, Volume 1."

Twenty-four songs! Enough Clowning for anyone! Includes "Little Liza Jane," a real stomper with one of the best sax solos EVER.

  • Thanks for that. You'd think with 24 tracks they'd have had room for 'Dearest Darling'!

  • i'll have to check with my brother he usually knows all this stuff

  • what was the other side?

  • 'Tu-ber-cu-lo-ses And The Sinus Blues' (or somethng like that). A reworking of 'Rockin' Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu'.

  • I used to have this on 45 rpm...it's one of the best songs by them..Could have been a hit

  • I've got this 45 as well... Terrific sound!!! I heard this at a record party in Northeast PA years ago. The guy that brought it said "Let's see who knows who did this"... None of us had a clue. Took me a very long time to find this one. It's a shame this wasn't the A-Side because the side they pushed on this one sucks.

  • What part of Northeast PA? I traded Sweetest One/My Juanita by the Crests for this tune. It has always been one of my favorites. I remember listening to the "Doc" Daughtery Show and the Rockin' Robin, Tom Howard on Saturday mornings in York, PA. Two outstanding R&B and oldies radio shows. Too bad they aired at the same time on different stations! I always wondered who sang Bass on this recording. The man had some chops!

  • Heard this before but didnt have the knowledge that it was mr smith.
