@winstonedeaver The fact that Greeks make it so far, conquering (the long time enemy) Persian empire, isn't enough? Alexander wanted to spread hellenism to the end of the world. IMO he should stay in Babylon and preserve the conquest. The world would be much different today.

@Thejeter5770 the lack of a grown up succesor for Alexander did that, his brother was an idiot and his son was yet to be born, so the royal bloodline wasnt capable to provide a succesor for at least 20 years. combine this with a bunch of very powerful generals and you have civil war.

The Macedonians also fought in the phalanx (phalangitai) formation with pikemen, whereas their southern neighbors preferred the traditional hoplite arrangement. They did, however, worship the same deities of the Greek pantheon.
@AmericaFreeTV They were the same people. The Macedonians were Greeks. Their kings were the Argeads who descended from the Temenids of Argos. The Macedonians were a Greek Dorian tribe. Well back then almost each city had a different dialect but all these dialects including the Macedonian were Greek dialects. And as you said they had the same gods and they particibated in the olympic games as well where only Greek people could join in. By the way modern Greek derive from Greek koine.

The Hellenistic Empire could have defeated Rome if Alexander had lived longer. Greed was Greece's downfall, pretty much like every empire.
