The only time i fall for these sales pitches is when i am not in a band, I sit at home and convince myself i am not getting the tone i hear on recordings, i have bought every boutique amp going and found fault with all of them after a few weeks at home,soon as i play a pub gig they all sound great.save your money, they will be onto the new best thing and you wont be able to give these away on ebay. Buy a twin or a marshall a few peddles and save your money its not voodoo.

Very nice amp, but indeed very expensive. Check out the Bugera BC30 or even the Blackheart Handsome Devil if you're on a budget. They cost approximately 400 bucks and sound awesome.

Ever tried a superchief 120 from the Sampson era ? I heard that there was 60 of 'em made and that they are THE BEST AMP ever. Jeff Martin from The Tea Party uses 4 of these and I've always been really impressed by his tone ... Now I know from where it came from !

I don't understand the point of a "bargain" Matchless amplifier. Why should a boutique amp builder make a lower quality amp for only a slightly lower price, which is still out of most people's range.

I doubt it dude. Buy a Mesa Boogie RectoVerb if you want amazing cleans and a sick lead channel. Or a any rectifier. Or basically anything Mesa has ever made except the Lone Star and Stilleto series (still amazing, but not as metalhead-friendly)

But I highly suggest a rectoverb, you can get em for like 700-900 USD used

back in 1998 my wonderful bandmates gifted me with a 1997 matchless chieftain 2x12 combo.

it's 2009 and it is just getting better sounding at every gig i play. i am on my third carrying handle for it. it is a beast at 85 lbs. just have to change the tubes every year and your good to go.
