Think of government as a monopolistic corporation which has the ability to write laws and use force... with government, all your fears of 'corporations' are realized.
Keep in mind that even the weakest government can squash the most powerful corporation with it's pinky.
Big business loves big government... because they can snuggle up to it to get favorable regulations. This is antithetical to a free society.
It does not work in Europe. It is costly and ineffective... and it has contributed to a depressed birthrate. Europe imports most of the advanced medical technology from the US... very little of it is developed domestically.
There is no legitimate reason why the government should run a health care corporation. This is foolish.

Every rich man wouldnt be rich if he could not call on the labour of those workers.
So whose fault is it that a poor man cannot afford private healthcare?
And if every labourer walked out tomorrow to look for better employ, would you welcome their initative or order them back to the factories just so 'you alone' could make more wealth.

Future historians and economists will laugh at how silly and regressive Beveridge's ideas have proven to be.
The welfare state is a crime against humanity.
It created a society that was dependent on government for all of it's primal needs, maintaining that society in a permanent state of adolescence.
Way to go Beveridge!
