Nice review, I am considering one of these after selling off my LC9 because it sprayed rounds all over the place, and continued to do so even after a trip back to the factory. This looks like really great accuracy from a pocket pistol. Anyway, it didn't look like the slide locked open after the 7th round you fired...Is supposed to?
I open carry in my state (NC). I also have a conceal permit. I get some strange looks when I venture in to the mall or Walmart. I carry a Glock 23 or a Ruger p90. I am looking for something with some good stopping power to carry in my pocket or an ankle holster. A guy recommended the DB9. I am still shopping around and stumbled across your review. What would you recommend since you seem to have a lot of experience with many pistols.
The DB9 is a good choice, as are the Ruger LC9 and Kahr CM9.
I prefer to carry concealed. Carrying open just draws attention to the fact that you are armed, and you would be the first one popped by an armed thug. Best for no one to know that you are packing until the gun is needed.
The Heritage is a good bike, but I do a lot of long-distance riding, and the Road Glide is my bike of choice. it is bigger, faster, more powerful, and more comfortable than the Softail line.
Sorry to disagree. The one I payed for and belongs to me is a pice of crap. Jams, misfeeds and malfunctions. You couldn't hit that target with mine at all.Stay away from this gun.
It is available from Seven Brothers Mercantile (sevenbros-dot-com) for only $4.99. Measures 3x5 feet with 2 grommets. Search for "M4 Come and Take It Flag", item number fsh-m4. We have no financial interest, it's just a cool flag that everyone should own.
hows it going? I just have two little questions 1. how far were you from the target when shooting? 2. Where can I get those targets with the vitals? if you have already answered you can disregard this I'm going to skim through the comments.
I have one and it is a paper weight. I can't shoot more than 4 shots without the trigger failing to reset. Called diamondback and they will not pay to ship the gun back to repairs. So, if you want a DB9, assume you will spend another $50+ to overnight it back for warranty work when contemplating the price.
How precise are you point shooting? If some punk is hiding behind your wife or child, with only his head exposed, are you good enough at point-shooting to be confident and make the shot? What about if you are lying on your back, or your side? How about with your weak hand, in the case your strong hand is taken out of the fight? I ain't that good, and I doubt that you are either. Use every advantage that you can get.
to Warpath, I've used a "silly dot sight" (same concept, dot equals shot placement) in Baghdad and I'm still around because I could see my sights and he couldn't. Factor in huge amounts of adrenaline, nigth-time, and real bad guys who don't stay still and pose for you and state that a laser is "silly". I want my wife to be able to pull her revolver from her purse and start shooting accurately, no matter the situation, hence Crimson Trace on her .38
Its not a true double action only. Its more like a glock action in that you have to rack the slide to fire it, unlike a taurus that will dry fire without re racking the slide.
thanks for the video man. you seem to be very knowledgeable
I'm looking into the DB380 and the DB9, both because, having too many guns is like having too many guns is like having too many hammers or wrenches. my question is, why would you not recommend the DB9 for carry without the Crimson Trace laser sight. are the sights on the gun not sufficient or is the muzzle flip causing problems with follow up shots?
@jkmcdani The recoil is very similar. However, the PF-9 is easier to control because there more to hang on to. They both are very accurate. The PF-9 is also much easier to shoot one handed for the same reason.
My DB380 I bought a few months ago jammed every other bullet regardless of quality until I sent it back to Diamondback now it shoots SD and plinking ammo fine.
Jeff, Always enjoy your brief reviews. I figure many of the firearms you get are on loan from the manufacture which would make this hard, but it would be interesting for you to pick a category like favorite 22bolt gun or pistol caliber lever gun and do some comparisons or your take on why "A" is better than "B". Thanks again Jeff!
Good review I had a Rorhbaugh 9mm also very light but hard kick-traded it- I'm holding out for the solo I'd love to see a review of that nice looking piece!
Man, that's rough that it wouldn't even run well with 124 gr 9mm NATO ball -- that IS premium ammo, about as hot and high quality 9mm ball as you're going to find. They've been selling new Winchester Ranger (WCC) 9mm NATO on line for $13-$14 a box lately. If that worked you could actually practice with that little gun with a responsible level of regularity.
It has nothing really to do with the price of the ammo. With ANY pistol that might be needed for a serious purpose, you have to find what works best in your particular weapon.
Have you watched diamondback's own youtube video on this gun? They shoot many different kinds of "cheap" ammo without a problem. My guess would be if you combine cheap ammo with a small amount of limp wristing then you could have a problem. I'm not implying that you personally ever limp wristed the gun only that this could be other people's problem.
@classof77 Agree, 124 gr 9mm NATO is premium ball ammo and if it won't run well with that then I'm not interested. Sure, I would be using premium JHP for defensive ammo, but for general shooting I want a pistol that runs well with top-of-the-line ball ammo like the Winchester Ranger NATO rounds. Too bad.
Jeff, my friend has a DB380 and it doesn't feed well at all. Despite the problems of ejection, there is no slide lock to remove the spent cartridge. It is a real hassle working with it. I read below you said there is no slide lock. I expect you ran into the same problem when shooting the cheap, weak ammo?
@MrHardPressed I have a DB380 that I carry often. I have 400+ rounds through the gun and it has been 100% with several different brands of ammo. Based on my DB380's excellent performance, I have a DB9 on order.
On a side note, the CT laser for the DB380 also fits the DB9. Same laser.
@Vidwatcher321 still a deal breaking for me...even the LC9 has lockback and its the cheapest compact 9mm on the market. This thing looks like it kicks like a mule too compared to the Ruger and Kahr.
Does this pistol not hold back on an empty mag? Thats a deal breaker for me especially on a 9mm. Diamondback would be crazy not to especially since all the others do. Thanks for sharing
It does not have a slide lock, and none is needed on a pocket pistol. However, that is a personal preference thing. I prefer a smaller pistol, and putting a slide lock on the DB9 would add to the bulk and complexity of the weapon.
@italianguns Not even close to being in the same class. The PX4 subcompact is twice the weight and way larger, especially thicker. This gun is really only going to compare to the Kahr PM9 and CM9. Maybe the Keltec PF9 would be comparable because it's close in the weight.
@italianguns I personally don't have any experience with the DB9, it just came out. I hadn't even heard of it before this video. I actually haven't shot the CM9 either but I have shot the CW9 and PM9 so I think I have a pretty good idea there. Overall I'd pick a Kahr over the LC9. I like the trigger better, I like the lack of an external safety and they are a little smaller and lighter but still very shootable. Personally I am seriously considering picking up a CW9.
I am waiting for the EXO version to hit the market. If the DB9 shoots as reliably as my DB380 then I'll have a new daily carry. Thanks for your videos!!!
