  • This song is the coolest. There are plenty of people today who could learn a bit of prudence and frugality from it. (i.e. Some European countries and the United States government). You can't spend your way out of a debt crisis.

  • I think when I first watched this as a child I had the same look of confusion as the children. Makes sense now though.

  • This gentleman and the father were just trying to instill a sense of responsibility and an understanding of basic economics in these brats, instead of letting them squander their tuppence on subsidizing a useless activity like feeding birds. Birds don't need us to feed them! No one owes that old bat a tuppence or her diseased birds a crumb.

  • "Think of the foreclosures!" Indeed. Inculcating within children the predatory instinct. The hellish cycle extends itself into perpetuity.

  • How sad they try to make capitalism look like the bad guy. I would love to invest in sound currency.

  • lol half way through the song i would start walkin away and they will be like "were r u goin" and im like "to feed the brids and make them fat like u said"

  • and we all know how THAT turned out :P

  • Michael is like what is he talking about lol

  • Good song good film.

  • Think of the foreclosures!

  • "Fiddlesticks, boy! Feed the birds and what have you got? Fat birds!" I love Dick Van Dyke

  • hahaha Dick Van Dyke is the best!

  • @senormoron it's funny when I watched this as a kid I had no idea what they were saying

  • these lyrics are mindblowing!!!

  • 1 person fed the pigions instead of investing

  • 'gimme back my money!!!' LOLOLOL

  • wtf at 2:00. Is that the "Banker's dance" or sommat?

  • i love the facial hair on these guys

  • don't they know that the kids do not understand what they're saying?

    talking bank business...geez.

  • Am I the only one expecting the old guy going like this: "Eeeeeeh? Where am I?"

  • foreclosures...

  • 4:07 the guy on the right is badass

  • What a wonderful piece of work this is. Mr. Van Dyke, Mr. Tomlinson and of course Mr. R.M. Sherman and Mr. R.B Sherman for the song. There's nothing like this being done anymore which is a shame...and how prophetic the England and Banks reference.

  • @ZXC5000 I know, society is being affected through the loss of wonderful films

  • we're doing the mary poppins musical with our musical group, i may play the old man!!!!=D

  • @TheSixBPencil How did it go? :D

  • @SmartieRockz lol we didnt had the exual showcase yet bet after rehearsels my voice is totally fucked upX''D

  • @TheSixBPencil Ohh okay. Aw man i bett! Having to do the gruff voice all the timee :L

  • dick van dyke is brilliant here!

  • This shit became an italian meme lol 1:35

  • @zappamania89 Yes, and that's the best thing I have ever heard and seen in the world!

  • @dglass3090 Yeah, I recall him snatching it back before they run away, because then later Michael offers to give it to his father again after they cause all the trouble.

  • Love the WTF look he gives Banks at 01:37.

  • I love at 3:11... of no where, the Associate becomes possessed and yells "ALL MANNERS OF PRIVATE ENTERPRISE!!!"

  • Don't believe him Michael. By the time your tuppence becomes a pound it will cost a pound to feed the birds.

  • im an investment banker and i find this to be funny actually.

  • No Michael that's what the sub-prime mortgage market wants you to do, to fuel its evil powers.

  • 2:00 what a dance

  • English Banks...fueling Imperialism since...forever. XD

  • 1:30 - "self amortizing canals, plantations"

  • banks used to be this solid, responsible and prudent. then the 80's came along, reagan & thatcher deregulated everything and naturally banks turned into casinos.

  • I so HATED the really old guy. Only wants the money for his OWN personal gain you could see it in his eyes at the end, that glint. Ever since i understood what was going on at this segment in the film (which was pretty quick). I would say in my head something like "don't do it Michael". Now i say that as well as try to come up with ways that Michael could say in retort. Marry Poppins is sooo not only for children.

  • @sezzac155 no there is so many levels to this film! I never get bored with it. :)

  • those old geezers can harmonize with the best of 'em. lol

  • Aww...I wish you included the bit just before this clip where he tries so hard to go down that step. :D

  • Feed the birds and what have you got? FAT BIRDS.

Probably the best line in Disney ever

  • Recently, they were doing a production of the Mary Poppins musical in L.A. and as a speical surprise Dick Van Dyke came out doing this role (despite the fact that the musical doesn't have the character, they wrote him in for this performance). Despite not looking like he did in the movie with all that makeup, he was playing the character at the proper age now. It's kind of cute when you think about it.

  • I love mary poppins just as much as the next person, but you can't tell me the little boy doesnt look like the face of MAD magazine

  • Michael is martin cloons - so he isn't dead you fools...

  • Matthew Garber you "fool" died when he was 21. Look it up.

  • @smurfmdk I think you'll find he was played by Matthew Garber, who died in the late 70s

  • Dick Van Dyke is an old man now and he looks nothing like Mr. Dawes Sr.

  • Teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeea *dreamy look* lol

  • he did not die after this filmin this

he died wen he was 21

  • XD I love Dick van Dyke. <3

  • Michael knew what's what. I would rather feed the birds than give my money to the banks and lose it all to inflation. A rare instance of Disney teaching the kids a useful life lesson. (Although the old guy's skinny pants are awesome.)

  • Haha dick van dyke is amazing :)

i love the little dance break the old guys have, and what dick is doing :)

    great!

  • Don't be mean about Micheal he died soon after filming this.

  • The banks have fallen -

  • The bird lady outside would of just used the money to buy alcohol.

  • Haha, she's so blurred on gin she thinks the pigeons are her friends.

  • hahahahahahhaaa

  • Is the old guy Dick van Dyke?

  • yes

  • @windridr66 yep!

  • Thanks for cutting it off just before Micheal has his nasty little tantrum!

  • Michael is a horrible kid

  • Michael, Don't listen to the old geezer! The bank will only use your money to finance the sub-prime mortgage market!

  • You see Michael,

    All for the lack of

    tuppence patiently cautiously trustingly invested...

  • While stand the banks of England,

    England stands!

When fall the banks of England,

    England falls!

  • @cantleysugar So true the entire British economy is structured around the Bank of England due too the Colonnial years
