  • Yes this was always one of the most beautiful of Caravan tracks. Mike Routledge wrote it and Soft Machine never did it as sensitively as this - but then their version is entirely different. Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night is one of the best Caravan albums and there are of course many. So sad to hear that Richard Coughlin is not well. Oh the memories!!!!! Great to see that qwfwq2 listens to this when he gets home from school - impressed!

    bye

  • The most beautiful tune by Mike Ratledge played perfectly as ever by Caravan - heaven!!!

  • @matkinsonthebass

I didn't know it was by Mike Ratledge! Thank you for let me knowing. I do like Soft Machine, although the tendency to consider them as "Canterbury" confuses me. The original "Backwards" should be in "Soft Machine-Peel Sessions" isn'it?

It sound fine and jazzier but IMHO, Caravan made a much better version.

  • @qwfwq2 I have this piece on 'For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night' LP that's either '73/3, all I know is that it sounds absolutely fantastic when I get in from school :)

  • @matkinsonthebass I must second that. I have loved their version since Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night. I only wish I could see them once more. No Dave or Richard Sinclair but hey cant have it all!
