This song has helped me deal with a family friend who was killed in a car accident Sunday night. It was very disheartening to see those comments arguing about how someone else worships who's heart they cannot possibly know.
@slyoldman93 Well your mama ain't the Bible. If you are just supposed to shut up, how will these words be fulfilled? "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them." (Eph 5:11)
Beautiful Fanny Crosby godly hymn ruined by Chris Tomlin sissy effeminate sensual voice. The Spirit-filled words of this song don't even match Chris' queerish version.
@brgdlsty Oh really? Then why does the Bible say "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:1-2
@brgdlsty But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:23
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24
" God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
it says here that we should worship Him in a true and spirit-filled manner. Not because Chris sings this song in this version means he is (or the listeners are) not worshiping God with his whole heart. Chris just sings it in a manner which he thinks pleases God.
@brgdlsty If you are not saved, you cannot worship God in a spirit-filled manner. Worshipping in the spirit means to be born again (saved), and "in truth" means to sing songs that are filled with biblical doctrine (the words of the Bible, truth).
It doesn't matter what Chris thinks is acceptable. He should read the Bible (KJV) to understand what God wants and decides is acceptable. Not every kind of worship is received by the LORD.
@gimik2 where in the bible does it say that the LORD do not want receive every kind of worship? and why are you so legalistic? so you are saying that if a new believer wants to worship God he/she needs to these things that you are saying to prove that he/she is saved? FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT THING: We are saved not by our works but by God's grace, all we needed to do is to believe. God appreciates everything that we dedicate to Him. He does not put to waste even a single bit of it.
@brgdlsty No, I'm not saying that salvation is by works. Not at all! But true worshippers are not the ones that worship God in their own terms, but the ones that worship the LORD in his own terms. "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [...] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof; from such turn away." (2 Tim 3:1, 2, 5)
@brgdlsty Or why didn't God accept Nadab and Abihu's offer, when they offered strange fire before the LORD? (Lev 10). You need to let God dictate to you what he wants to receive as "worship." "Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ." (1 Pet 2:5). "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer." (Ps 19:14)
@brgdlsty God does not appreciate "anything" you offer him. If that would be true, then why didn't he accept Cain's offer? "But unto Cain and to hi offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt not thou be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him." (Gen 4:5-7)
@gimik2 I'm not saying that Fanny Crosby's version is worse, in fact I think the original is also a good version. I'm just saying that people worship God with songs that although differ in version, uplifts their soul and fills them with the Spirit.

@gimik2 You don't have to listen if you don't like it. My mom used to tell me, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

@gimik2 I think you misunderstood the verse a little bit.
