I was lucky enough to see this performance at Trinity Episcopal Church in New Orleans, during the Bach Around the Clock festival. I strongly urge going to the next Bach Around the Clock this coming March for what I hope to be a repeat performance.
But, of course, the harpsichord would be irrelevant without one to play it. Here, Mr. Prizgintas plays the harpsichord as it was meant to be played: his hours of practice are evident; his emotion seeps through his body and into the keys and their connected strings; his nimble fingers play sophisticated passages with ease (for example, see around 5:14 to 5:27 and 7:18 to the end). In my view, quite a tour de force.
This soloist, Mr. Albinas Prizgintas, is remarkable. First, the use of the harpsichord—instead of the traditional piano—is a very welcome addition. The harpsichord, with its choir of strings, adds a richer and more intense element to an already passionate piece.
This is a beautiful performance of the first movement (the Allegro) of Bachs Piano Concerto in D minor. This wonderful orchestra, comprised of young musicians ranging from the second to the twelfth grades, plays with great passion, and each young musician follows this director, Mr. Viktoras Prizgintas, with intense concentration.
This was a spellbinding performance, and a serious high point of this year's Trinity Artists Series. Thanks to Allegro, Albinas, Victor and Trinity Church New Orleans for presenting it, and especially for the opportunity to experience it again
Thanks swamprat! All of us from Allegro had a wonderful time as well. I am already looking forward to coming back. Everyone in New Orleans was extraordinary and the festival is simply magnificent! We just completed a concert with Tao Rodriguez-Seeger (Petes grandson) in a program of folk music. Much of it is already on YouTube!
I should add that this was the twelfth Bach Around the Clock, with the thirteenth coming soon.
