No, he wasn't. This is a common misconception. Egypt was actually a society of mostly sun-tanned whites. (Not that race matters, it's just historically inaccurate to call them black...) There was definitely black population, as there's no evidence of blacks being discriminated on, and there are some darker-skin-toned paintings from Egypt. This is a great example.

Interesting, not certain if Imhotep will be mentioned (for my cat's sake I hope he is), Rick Riordan is coming out w/ a new series The Cane Chronicles (spelling? Kane?) which is actually going to explore Egyptian mythology. This is the author of The Percy Jackson series which if anyone has seen the movie, the books are much more accurate.
