I hate to be the voice of truth here , but yes , Marion plays as fast if not faster than Oscar , but Oscar had much more feeling and expression in his playing . A true Jazz Pianist would recognize this . Marion repeats the same licks many , many times within a solo which gets rather tiring . Yes , Oscar did this , too....but Marion seems to do it excessively . But make no mistake , he is amazing ! Oscar and Tatum are still the best ! BTW....bassist sounds lost half of the time.
I think you'll be influence by amny types, genre,of music so some riffs some lines can look like to other ; but in fact the context the players the sound of instruments dertermine the music which is played.Listen music and don't be care about misconceptions of "music critics" ;)
You can definitely hear Oscar Peterson's influence in there, but to be perfectly honest he has surpassed what Oscar did, if you check his other video clips. You'll see what I mean. He doesn't have to sound like Oscar. He is great in his own right.
I,m shure this pianist must have Oscar Peterson as his ideal. It sound quite like OP,but its not the same. Trying to copy OP is impossible, but you will learn a lot when you try.
Please go to Resonance Records and pick up A Tribute to O.P., introducing Marian Petrescu. There is a CD in the set, it's wonderful. Marian can play like O.P. but there is a bonus and it's his uncanny individualism he puts into all his work.

He did do more with this one than Oscar did, but this is also 30+ years later..

He was just here in Palm Beach. I hear a lot of Art Tatum in his playing.

This is a more delicate Marian than I've previously heard. The more I listen to Marian, the less I care to listen to anyone else.
