I always felt sad for tom cruise - he was incredible in this film, but got overshadowed by dustin hoffman who had a role that was much easier to make look good. cruise should have got an oscar here.

I do think that if this score had strings, then the film would have been to sentimental. barry levingston and hans zimmer where infact completly correct. therefore not only is this score great. but gave rainman the edge many films lacked musically.
