I've got this rifle in 22-250, and he's right, it shoots these groups and better. I've got the Barska 6-24x60 IR Mil Dot reticle on mine, with bi-pod and sling. Quick walk thru of the scope I chose is on my channel. It's sweet, just as this rifle is!
is that the 3-9x40 Bushnell scope that comes with the rifle? if so what are the sizes for the scope of the scope covers? i'm thinking of getting them for my savage.
just got mine today. now need to find a scope. thinking of a nikon buckmaster 4.5-14x 40mm. or the 6-18x 40mm with mill dots and side focus. any suggestions. any other scopes that would work. main brands like bushnell leoupold. i'm looking for under 300 but can go a little above.
i am planning on getting this rifle in a couple of weeks. i have been told .308 is the best caliber. i dont know? which is the best .308, .270, 30.06?????????? and do you know which would be cheaper to reload?
Hey man I'm 14 and I just got the same gun for Christmas it's the savage axis 30-06 with the 3x9x40 scope I havnt shot it yet but I hear it's a damn good gun
really nice shooting friend. my brother had a savage 30-06 and it was one of the best shooting hunting rifles I had ever shot. savage rifles are definately underrated, just because they dont cost 600-1000 bucks, people think they are crap. but they are excellent rifles
My savage came from the factory without any rifling in the barrel! Guess how accurate it was. Savage may make some good rifles, but I haven't found one. Glad yours shoots ok.
Great video! Thank you for the info, I am saving up to get this sometime next year. I am new to scoped rifles and I am considering getting this Savage in the .308
@FloydofOz I still love mine, the scope is perfect for my range and use. But I got my gun during a sale at Dick's too.. The regular guns with a black scope and bleu barrel where around $250-320. The tag said I saved $80 but the bleu barrel ones only saved $50. Plus gun prices and sales can be different from store to store or state to state.
But you will love it, especially if you like a heavy trigger pull. (I play paintball and use AR-15 weppons so I am use to a heavy trigger pull)
i have this rifle in 308 it is a good rifle but it still aint a 110 but far as the trigger problem it is easy fix just trim the trigger spring and it will make a world of difference in the stiffness i did mine and it tighten the groups up but even still it is a great rifle for the money
Hey miller, I'm getting this in 25-06 for deer season this november. Do you think that me, being a black man, will be able to shoot accurately with it? Or will my darkness affect my accuracy?
I have the axis 30-06 my bushnell broke after 20 rounds so I went and bought a nikon love the new scope and the gun. The problem is me I seem to be pulling the rifle to the right I think it's either my trigger squeeze or I'm flinching. I'm in the army as know the basics and I shoot great with my m4 because there isn't really any recoil. But when I set up for my 30-06 I just keep pulling the rifle. Any ideas on how I can fix thus little issue I'm having it's driving me nuts.
It's not you. It's a good rifle, I have one in 308, but the trigger is terrible. It's way too stiff, making it nearly impossible to get a feel for the break, and bigger calibers like 30/06 or 308 amplify this problem. Maybe take it to a gunsmith? Modifying the trigger will violate the warranty but it seems worth it.
got one last year for christmas, and it already has killed three deer. I got it in 30.06 and have gotton groups just like his. Its an awsone rifle for the money.
I bought this rifle chambered in a .270 winchester, it shoots 1/2'' to 1'' groups using winchester supreme elite 130 grain (The round i use for hunting is the same i practice with, you know how it is) all day at 150 yards. This may be a very inexpensive rifle but it shoots with tremendous results and superb accuracy.
Savage revolutionized "out the box" accuracy with their Accutrigger, Accustock, and free-floated barrels from the factory. Best bang-for-buck bolt action rifle on the market for medium game hunting and casual target shooting, in my opinion.
very nice shooting sir i just picked up my savage 17 hmr and a love it. see i had a rabbit problem on my land haha key word "had" it does the trick for around 200 bucks. and now i am thinking about buying a savage 30-06, 7.62x39 or .308 cant make up my mind yet what do you think i should go with the 30-06?????
I'm looking to get one too but this will be my first rifle and im still learning about caliber sizes .308, 30-06, 7mm-08 etc. my question is that i am wondering which u guys would reccomend or what sized caliber barrel... I'm looking for something that goes really far but doesnt loose its power at long distances and which o those calibers are bigger?
@lostd00d , depends on what you want to do if you are just useiing a light round the .308 is fine, but if you are hunting and want something that will reach out and touch somebody and still pack a punch the 30-06 can handle a heaver load further with greater accuracy. thats why the .308 is a short action = shorter case less propellant, the 30-06 is a long action= longer case more + longer burning propelant. as far as wich is bigger the 30-06 offers the largers grain size's and the larger case.
I have the Axis in .308 and I am pleased with the quality and accuracy of this Savage rifle, I too recommend this as an economical, yet accurate rifle.
Iv found that smaller targets tend to get you smaller grouping.. One of my favorites is using a bullet hole as the aiming point or a circle just bigger than the cross hair junction on my scope.. gives the sights less leeway to wander :-j
is there a difference between the "edge" and "axis"? anyone? iam thinking of buying an edge in 308, but on yt i'm hearing them referred to as axis. pros/cons to either?
@jwgbmp40 You'll have to forget my other comment. The axis is 4+1capacity, I had the wrong info. It is listed as 3+1 for some reason on two different websites I researched it on and the 'edge' listed at 4+1. ????
@millerusaf you know I was thinking about that today I don't have vids except for my shotgun but when I go to the range sometime I run into cool people and they let me fire there weapon I'm pretty good I just need a little more of a steady hand
When referring to rifles MOA turns out to be roughly 1" diameter at 100 yards. It is actually 1.047" but close enough to round. At 200 it is 2" and so on. So if someone says they shot a half MOA group at 100 yards that means the bullets were within 1/2".
@millerusaf like I said Please Don't take offense to this but I don't think the avradge Person can shoot like you but then again I could be wrong I suprise myself sometimes W/ my shotgun I'm still waiting on my pistol and then well see how I do w/that But great Video
I have a Savage .308 with the 3x9 scope and I was shooting sub MOA groups at 100 yards with no previous experience. Highly highly highly recommend this rifle to anyone.
Please don't take offense to this I think your channel is great and your videos are very educational, But Correct me if I,m wrong but aren't you considered a ace, master shooter in the military whatever they call it, Like Sniper status
A shooter with poor skills and technique will perform badly with a $9k rige....but a good shooter can do well without the "best" of equipment and Miller's vid demonstrates that quite well. All too often, shooters make excuses...saying "I just need better gear". Savage makes surprisingly good guns for the money...
@cmonsterz Shooting good has never been a secret, and unfortunately good marketing has made people think that it's absolutely necessary to have top dollar equipment in order to shoot well. Top dollar equipment is fun, and there is nothing wrong with owning it, but it's not a need for the regular shooters out there.
All the blue collar hunters with full meat freezers can testify to that fact.
The really great thing about them is they are super simple to rebarrel if you decide you want something better too. You could throw a $300 barrel on that next year and still have a budget rifle that will probably do 1/4 MOA. Good shooting.
@MrSurgicalPrecision I'm gonna leave this one the way it is. I plan on getting maybe another Savage model in the future that I can have chambered in something like 300 win. I'll probably put a nice barrel on it, and do some customization to turn it into a long range shooter.
@MrSurgicalPrecision Nice :) Hey, I got you on my wall on my main page now. I've been looking at your videos more and more and really like em. Instead of talking about shooting on a table in a million videos, you actually go out and do it.
From one rifle shooter to another -- outstanding videos, bro. *clinks beer*
Didn't mean to get so political. Mathematically, I think your having more fun then going for a proverbial drive in the country, that always turns to a bumper to bumper parking lot. And still at less the cost and not as dangerous as driving in LA. Most folks agree with me, so to find controversy, I find it fun. See 65mph, means at 10 MPG, your spending how much again for 5 hours at $5 a gallon. Do your math folks. Don't forget my neighbors cammed, hemi, with duel quad 750's get over 50 mpg to :)
Nice job! I have an old Savage Super Sporter 30-30 bolt action. My Dad left it to me with a few other firearms when he passed away in 2009. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but I am sure it's a decent rifle.
@scottmc283 Muzzle-loading flintlock muskets of the 1700s were typically smoothbore, therefore not rifles at all. Some were personally owned, some were Colonial Army. They were the latest/greatest at the time and used for fighting.
While bolt actions are employed in combat, since the advent of semi-automatic rifles, I believe you'd be hard pressed to find somebody wanting to bring a bolt action into a firefight that required them to close and destroy the enemy. Bolt actions have their role.
only problem with guns like this savage is no iron sights. idk why but for some reason manufacters think we do not need irons on a bolt action. nice shooting though would love to get a nice bolt action like this but northwest indiana has no place to shoot them.
Miller, how would you rate the Axis (or the older Edge series) compared to the 111 FCNS from the Hunter series, which is about $300 more for the base rifle in 30-06?
I'm wondering if that $300 isn't better spent on glass for the less expensive rifle. Is the 111 FCNS really that much better? They both have the AccuTrigger and AccuStock.
love the vids, more in depth reviews would be appreciated on this style of long gun. I am specifically considering this rifle (maybe .308), i like the model 10's, but for the price... Thank you for your service.
@millerusaf well here is my perspective, I would like a fighting rifle to balance my pistol, shotgun. I live in California, that part sucks for now anyways, and would like to have a go to long gun, dependable, good to 300+ meters, and not terribly heavy. I have a lot to learn and want to do just that. So, I don't know
@millerusaf hell yeah dude you made the right choice going with a savage alot of people dont give them the respect they deserve. when you buy a savage its all about the barrel people think that it has to be a remington 700 or what not it has to cost a grand great job miller
@redmule02 I sometimes see people saying that Savage rifles are "cheap" but this video shows it all. A sub moa grouping at 100 yards with factory ammo ends the debate once and for all. I didn't even mention that the barrel was still hot from shooting a previous group. I think this video is a testament to Savage. There are alot of other Savage owners that experience the same thing.
@bisquik3006 ...and I looked and behold the pistol was turned sideways. It was gold and smelled of the finest gunpowder. Righteous are those that run and gun.
@DannyMayhem77 I bet it shoot like a champ. The 270 is a pretty accurate round. My father-in-law was out with me today with his Ruger .270 and it sounded like a precision shooter duel going on between him and I...lol.
@88GRENADE88 I am sold on the Savage brand. These rifles are absolute tack drivers. I now want to get a varmint caliber (like a .223 or .243) just to have a smaller caliber to mess around with.
Savage Rifles will just plain shoot. I had one in .223 a few years ago and with hand loads got .25" groups at 100 yards. Basically one small hole. Even with Remington yellow box UMC ammo I could still get under an inch. These were 5 shot groups.
I love it. It is the shooter not the rifle.I have to keep telling some of the hi-speed,low drag types the same thing at work.No gadget will make up for your lack of following the fundamentals.
@ChrisHun7er Yep. I am just resting the trigger hand alongside the grip area and just using the finger to engage the trigger. It's a little trick to keep from putting any unintentional cant to the rifle, which could possibly throw groups off slightly.
WOW!!!!!!!!! I had a "cheap" package 111 series rifle from with a Bushnell scope all ready mounted. It was Sub MOA (.5) with a thin taper barrel and it would open up to 7/8 of an inch when hot. It was a great rifle for $550 and to see this even cheaper one do that out of the box shows that Savage is going to take the industry by storm once people realize that Remington 700 doesn't corner the market anymore . Thanks and great shooting.
another proof video that federal ammo is QUALITY! nice rifle, i saw a video on here as well with a savage rifle, had more money into it than yours, was a GORGEOUS rifle, and he had a monopod rest on the butstock, was wierd looking, was wondering if you have ever used one or would consider using it on this rifle and see if you could group tighter, not that the second group was not anything less than great, just curious i guess on your take of that monopod setup
I was getting half inch groups at 50 yards with my mini14. I need to get a scope to do a good bench rest deal at 100 and show the world how magnificent the 581 series minis are. U know of any good scopes that are cheap/affordable? Under 50 bucks basically. None of that red dot shit, dont wanna have to use batteries to shoot mah gun

MOA is minute of angle. There is 360* in a circle and there are 60 minutes of angle in 1* so this is 1/60 of 1 degree of angle.

huguenot67 10 months ago

DangerousDude2010 10 months ago
@scottmc283 Muzzle-loading flintlock muskets of the 1700s were typically smoothbore, therefore not rifles at all. Some were personally owned, some were Colonial Army. They were the latest/greatest at the time and used for fighting.
While bolt actions are employed in combat, since the advent of semi-automatic rifles, I believe you'd be hard pressed to find somebody wanting to bring a bolt action into a firefight that required them to close and destroy the enemy. Bolt actions have their role.
silvermediastudio 10 months ago
only problem with guns like this savage is no iron sights. idk why but for some reason manufacters think we do not need irons on a bolt action. nice shooting though would love to get a nice bolt action like this but northwest indiana has no place to shoot them.

Nice budget precision rifle!!

love the vids, more in depth reviews would be appreciated on this style of long gun. I am specifically considering this rifle (maybe .308), i like the model 10's, but for the price... Thank you for your service.
scottmc283 10 months ago
@scottmc283 What would you like me to cover? I still have yet to do some reviews on my M44 Mosin
Nagant, and I still have yet to shoot the M44 and the Mauser 1893.
millerusaf 10 months ago
@millerusaf well here is my perspective, I would like a fighting rifle to balance my pistol, shotgun. I live in California, that part sucks for now anyways, and would like to have a go to long gun, dependable, good to 300+ meters, and not terribly heavy. I have a lot to learn and want to do just that. So, I don't know
scottmc283 10 months ago
@scottmc283 "Fighting rifle" and bolt action don't really jive, kid. This is a target/hunting rifle.
silvermediastudio 10 months ago
@millerusaf hell yeah dude you made the right choice going with a savage alot of people dont give them the respect they deserve. when you buy a savage its all about the barrel people think that it has to be a remington 700 or what not it has to cost a grand great job miller
redmule02 10 months ago
@redmule02 I sometimes see people saying that Savage rifles are "cheap" but this video shows it all. A sub moa grouping at 100 yards with factory ammo ends the debate once and for all. I didn't even mention that the barrel was still hot from shooting a previous group. I think this video is a testament to Savage. There are alot of other Savage owners that experience the same thing.
millerusaf 10 months ago
Even sported the boonie, lol. If he kills himself, it's on you. 06 FTW. About time you started becoming more American.
bisquik3006 10 months ago
@bisquik3006 I grew up with the 30-06 in Alaska. Great all around badass rifle round. :)
This video still fails to even come close to the pure awesome of your run and gun vids....lol.
millerusaf 10 months ago
@millerusaf I don't want to sound like a douche, but I pretty much the "Christ" of the run n' gun. lol
bisquik3006 10 months ago
@bisquik3006 ...and I looked and behold the pistol was turned sideways. It was gold and smelled of the finest gunpowder. Righteous are those that run and gun.
lol

3 shots is not a group but those 3 shots are very nice.
SuperRayTango 10 months ago
@SuperRayTango I would've done 5 but wanted to save some more ammo for next time. :)
millerusaf 10 months ago
nice, bought a .270 last fall, $299 with scope
DannyMayhem77 10 months ago
@DannyMayhem77 I bet it shoot like a champ. The 270 is a pretty accurate round. My father-in-law was out with me today with his Ruger .270 and it sounded like a precision shooter duel going on between him and I...lol.
millerusaf 10 months ago
I've been keeping my eye on one of these for a while. Thanks for the video Miller!
88GRENADE88 10 months ago
@88GRENADE88 I am sold on the Savage brand. These rifles are absolute tack drivers. I now want to get a varmint caliber (like a .223 or .243) just to have a smaller caliber to mess around with.
millerusaf 10 months ago
Savage Rifles will just plain shoot. I had one in .223 a few years ago and with hand loads got .25" groups at 100 yards. Basically one small hole. Even with Remington yellow box UMC ammo I could still get under an inch. These were 5 shot groups.
dragonballjiujitsu 10 months ago
I love it. It is the shooter not the rifle.I have to keep telling some of the hi-speed,low drag types the same thing at work.No gadget will make up for your lack of following the fundamentals.
mrtlsimon 10 months ago
@mrtlsimon Exactly :)
Any hunter that puts meat in his/her freezer every year will tell ya the same thing.
millerusaf 10 months ago
@jsh1284 I'd like to try a 770. I've heard good and bad, and it has me curious. I don't see too many of those around my area these days.
millerusaf 10 months ago
I love Savage!!
tfoshohoe 10 months ago
Great shooting. And I fully agree that guns don't have to be expensive to be accurate.
bfgguns 10 months ago
Are you barely gripping the rifle when pulling the trigger?
ChrisHun7er 10 months ago
@ChrisHun7er Yep. I am just resting the trigger hand alongside the grip area and just using the finger to engage the trigger. It's a little trick to keep from putting any unintentional cant to the rifle, which could possibly throw groups off slightly.

nice!!! good shootin' man!

with my Mossberg 30-06 100atr i can make a 3/4 moa 100 yards open sights
crazycrackergabe 10 months ago
@crazycrackergabe I believe it. The 30-06 is a great round. One of the reasons I like it so much. Mossberg does make some solid rifles.

... YOU JUST NEED TO LEARN TO SHOOT A RIFLE... great shootin miller
Stangtt 10 months ago
@Stangtt It is true, though. I was taught that by me father, and the US military just reinforced that over the years.
Not every rifle can shoot sub moa, but you should be able to shoot to at least near the current capability of whatever rifle you have.

dimes?
derekgrebner87 10 months ago
@derekgrebner87 ....piece of cake with this rifle.
millerusaf 10 months ago
@derekgrebner87 I bet you can't hit a dime at 25 yards. Still talking about dimes and 155 I see.

jmmurdy 10 months ago
WOW!!!!!!!!! I had a "cheap" package 111 series rifle from with a Bushnell scope all ready mounted. It was Sub MOA (.5) with a thin taper barrel and it would open up to 7/8 of an inch when hot. It was a great rifle for $550 and to see this even cheaper one do that out of the box shows that Savage is going to take the industry by storm once people realize that Remington 700 doesn't corner the market anymore . Thanks and great shooting.
TheRifleman336 10 months ago

another proof video that federal ammo is QUALITY! nice rifle, i saw a video on here as well with a savage rifle, had more money into it than yours, was a GORGEOUS rifle, and he had a monopod rest on the butstock, was wierd looking, was wondering if you have ever used one or would consider using it on this rifle and see if you could group tighter, not that the second group was not anything less than great, just curious i guess on your take of that monopod setup
1gamoguy 10 months ago
I was getting half inch groups at 50 yards with my mini14. I need to get a scope to do a good bench rest deal at 100 and show the world how magnificent the 581 series minis are. U know of any good scopes that are cheap/affordable? Under 50 bucks basically. None of that red dot shit, dont wanna have to use batteries to shoot mah gun
SupremeAmerican 10 months ago
@SupremeAmerican Bushnell makes some good scopes. NCStar can be hit and miss sometimes.
