  • Did it really feel THAT good when you came at 0:02?

  • someone measured the SPL?

  • There goes my 300 tonne Dick in space, man I've got a large dick

  • 300th like:) awesome!

  • heard it with my new Pioneer in ears, man the sound presses my brain more than minimal techno!

  • damn your quick orgasming in the first 4 secs of the video lol

  • Don't know how I missed this vid. It was really fantastic! I agree with SenyorPony - what a fantastic vantage point. Have you had a chance to check out my launch vid yet ? It is also extremely loud.

    watch?v=OnoNITE-CLc

  • My headphones almost exploded! I had to turn the sound down, I wasnt ready for that, incredible!

  • Is it me, or did you catch the second stage separation toward the end there? The big red.

  • Yeah. security always makes me get down from the My Little Ponies too...

  • Sucks. I never had the chance to witness one of these launches!

  • omg look this white smoke...so cool.

  • I remember the very first launch, the acoustics were unreal! A high pitched shreech noise...it has changed since then!

  • I went up to Florida for a shuttle launch years back, and was very close to where this video was taken. I can say from experience(to all of you who criticize the sound quality), this video is as clear and as accurate as it gets unless you're actually at a launch.

  • @124simran this is excellent video and angle... good sound. I will defer to those have watched a launch.. but the other one" the real sound of a shuttle STs 117" is how I imagined it sounds when there. The wind noise can be filtered with one of those foam things I believe..

  • A great video! Thanks for posting...

  • I had to take my headphones off, it filled up my head.

  • i like that it sets off car alarms from miles away..

  • Nice video, Wow no wind that day ......

  • i think u have to be there in order to actually feel the full sound the closest ive been is 3 miles and thats like being right there the sound pounds u to the soul u have to put on ear plugs and even with those its deafening

  • best sound?? low bit rate, MONO and with WIND NOISE???

  • Can't they keep and launch Endeavour now and then, just for the spectacle? :-)

  • At the end, everyone stands in awe

  • I wonder what it would be like sat in that thing during the 8 minute ride to space, better than any roller coaster I'd imagine.

  • Sounds like my bong...

  • @SenyorPony to view a launch you have to register for a lottery on KSC's website. Unfortunately the registration has already taken place a while ago and the tickets are already sold out. I go tickets to view the launch from the US Astronaut Hall of Fame. I wanted the visitors center, but they were sold out in 15 minutes

  • Great video and sound!

  • whats the adress for this place cause im thinking about travelling over for the sts-135 and this looks like a good viewing place thanks

  • Wow! I have a subwoofer below my desk connected to my computer, and this video actually made my desk rumble! Awesome video! I think I'm going to try playing this on the sound system in our planetarium. :)

  • USA

  • @williamhad German technology. Fuck USA

  • @hardstyle905 wat

  • I've had the experience once of being at an airshow where the f-18 fighter jet didn't just do fly-overs, but approached the crowd and did a staight vertical above us. An indelible experience! The power coming from such a small machine, the sense of spatial area to the sound, ear splitting volume, and the 'rippingness' of it is hard to descibe well enough with words. To get the actual experience recreated by video and state-of-the-art audio capture, I don't think we're there yet.

  • Endeavor launch STS-118 by 'BlueStar118' (the one that says CAUTION! LOUD!!), is *by far* the best shuttle launch video in terms of capturing the *sound* of a shuttle launch. Nothing from youtube of course would come close to experiencing the real thing, but that video (Endeavor launch STS-118 by 'BlueStar118' ) probably comes as close as you can get. With loud speakers or headphones (the louder, the better), you could have an impressive experience.

  • 0:58 if you pay close attention you can see the sound barrier beeing breaked! Amazing!

  • Can you share where exactly you were when you took this? I'm thinking of going to watch the launch this Friday and I like you location. Thanks.

  • @umglory yeah i going to but i need this direction. position

  • look how the smoke color and density changes as the altitude rises. so cool!

  • very cool

  • Which shuttle was this?

  • My parents were there for a Space Shuttle Launch in 1993 and said it was the absolute most incredible experience they had ever had. My dad said he couldn't believe how loud it was and how much the ground rumbled under his feet given the distance from the launch site. Equally amazing to him was how fast the Space Shuttle was gone and completely out of sight.

  • Just imagine what it feels like to be in the cockpit.

  • How loud is it irl? Ive read that its about 200db around the pad, and that they use water to "cool" down the acustics. The "roar" does seem to be a big part of the experience.

  • @Zhqrxt Honestly, each rumble really pounds on you and there are a few moments my ears hurt. But, it's incredible. Yes, the pad has a massive "sound suppression" system that dumps water underneath the shuttle starting several seconds before liftoff. Without the sound suppression, the acoustics would reflect off the flame trench and destroy the orbiter.

  • @UFGatorGuy20 Yea..it is incredibly intense..I can never get enough of it.... NOW...Multiply that sound, rumble, earth shake, and body pounding by about 4, and you get what it was like to stand and watch a Saturn V launch..Thats was a funukin mind scrambling orgasm my friend ;-)

  • @UFGatorGuy20 it actually wouldnt destroy the orbiter. On STS-1 they did not use the sound supression system and it did not get destroyed, but the launch pad was slightly damaged.

  • 0:18 is when the sound reeeally kicks in. and yes this video has impressive sound good stuff

  • You can hear the strong doppler until the ship leaves the atmosphere... It's accelerating all the way up, 9 g's and counting.

  • I can't quite explain it but I choked up around 0:45. Seeing the culmination of man's efforts is very surreal.

  • thats a big firework

  • Can you tell me how to view the launch from here? I want to go up to see the next one the day before my bday. Thanks!!!

  • Best wind video on youtube

  • @Zundapp1010 Wind is only audible at the beginning. The rest of the noise is from the shuttle. Trust me... you can't hear the wind when the shuttle is rumbling off the VAB.

  • almost as much gas to start a bugatti :p

  • not with all that wind noise.

  • @yiblon That sound of the "wind" is the sound of the fucking shuttle taking off.

  • @orionknights..i was never insulting astronauts, only pointing out their lives are risked, as are those of any military branch, in the name of policy and political goals and favorable polls. The fuel tanks should have been replaced with new ones. At no time should the lives of astronauts or any other military member be risked to save money and make the leaders look good. the last two space shuttle disasters both occured by overlooking technical problems, expert advice and pushing it for agenda.

  • i hope they make it back alive. Another politically, monetaruly motivated launch, risking the lives of those onboard, using old, defective fuel tanks, just like the Columbia disaster caused by reagan insisting on a launch in subfreezing weather, Puppets used to boost the popularity of the puppet masters in washington and NASA..Godspeeed, you guys,,,

  • @lanagual In one paragraph you praise Astronauts and then insult their dedication, intelligence and courage.

  • gave me chills

  • Getting out of the fishbowl but it is a very long way to the door.

  • Heres to all of the incredible human beings who have gone to space and to the ones who we have lost!

  • Jimi Hendrix got his Marshall cabinets to rattle better than that!

  • Like God farting - in a good way of course

  • so annoying i hate those people shout

  • This is the best sound: watch?v=xsRuJ37kyZg

  • imagine how fun that would be sitting in that rocket

  • what is that bullet wissing sound

  • aren't they took close?

  • @LatestUpdatesFTW Too close? lol, they are 3 miles away.

  • that sound is almost scary i love it

  • apollo 11!

  • AMERICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry, Your mic couldnt not accurately capture the the volume or Clarity of the shuttle. There are better videos out there

  • /watch?v=5x4SO9bXwVU&feature=related

That has the best audio now.

  • @HaloWarsFreak .....not bad, but a bit too short. Probably very nice in an IMAX theatre.

I like /watch?v=MdjID2osZ0A for the light show and rumble....got to advance the "home movie" to 1:46 to get to the good stuff though...

  • Sounds more like wind to me.

  • God, when you watch this, you don't think about the pollution it makes... You know why? 'Cause that's fuckin' beautiful! Space Shuttle forever <3

  • @iloveairfrance There really it's a whole lot, actually. The 'pollution' from the main engines is water vapor, and the SRB's produce potassium chloride (fertilizer) and aluminum oxide (inert).

  • @00:18 yep, best sound.

  • Thats the ride of a lifetime.

  • 1:04 fizzing at the bung

  • You're right.... VERY nice audio!

  • now put that rocket on a bicycle and watch that baby go

  • Still the loudest thing i've ever heard or will ever hear. The crackle is unreal when your there.

Shame there is only a couple of flights left.

  • People just show up at launches hoping for the thing to blow up. Shuttle launches are pretty run-of-the-mill events, kind of like waiting for a bus.

  • somewhere at 25-40 seconds it sounds like cracking fireworks or simoustaneous firng of diferrent guns

  • @UFGATORGUY20 When i was younger,i used to make fun out of a really smart guy in my class. Now as i've got older,i hang my head in shame.Because if it was not for people like him,i would not get to witness such a beautiful achievement as this in human history. Also don't listen to irish89055,the sound is good enough to get that sense of power from the shuttle.Very nice

  • lol i bet all the local wild life is like "HOLY SHIT! RUN! ITS THE END OF THE FUCKING WORLD!

  • Those stupid american just cant keep their mouth shut.

  • Awesome. Well done man...well done.

  • nice white Clouds!! =D

  • daaaaam nice vid that was music to my ears

  • wow

  • all those poor birds

  • bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep! xD

  • That's the closest shuttle launch I have yet to see here on YouTube (and among my own experience). How'd you get that close GatorGuy?? (BTW alumni 2003 Go Gators) Simply amazing. Just short of that IMAX classic which is saying a lot for a candid shot like this. Leaves my speechless every time...

  • Delicious video! Stunning! Love it!

  • Thank you!

  • Dam it didn't explode that suck i want to see it explode

  • too much wind

  • hahahha classic...GO............ROCKET

  • Now that's what I call raw Power....

  • you can see the shadow cast onto the clouds.. cool..

  • hey where is this at thats pretty close! how can i get there?

  • best Shuttle launch sound on youtube?? Not quite...

  • @irish89055 Post a link to a shuttle mission before this one with better sound. There may be some out there now from recent launches. But, until this one, all launches I found had some mediocre audio quality.

  • @UFGatorGuy20 /watch?v=xsRuJ37kyZg&feature=related

  • @UFGatorGuy20 fuck that guy...this is the best i've heard so far

  • @UFGatorGuy20 This one is pretty good, I get some good low freq. acoustics and air movement on my computer speakers.

  • @irish89055

It's good, not many videos capture that signature crackle of the boosters.

  • @beelzbub try this one, not the best video but it does capture the sound .."Real Sound of Space Shuttle STS-117 Launch, 3 miles " hmmmmm , imagine that, its sitting just over to the right on the list....

  • @irish89055 Did you listen with headphones? So many "professional" videos from news crews and such just don't capture the sound properly in my opinion. It crackles and pops in their videos. I think this captures the rumble, reverb off the VAB, and bass pretty well. Maybe better videos exist now... but I sure couldn't find any around the time I uploaded this video.

  • Comment removed

  • @irish89055 First, my voice is only present in the first few seconds. As far as controlling ambient noise, I'm not Jesus Christ. I can't force others not to share their joy during liftoff and I can't control the wind. Maybe with some high tech equipment and noise dampeners the wind would be less noticeable. And if we're talking ambient noise, let's not discount all the camera shutters and announcers in the video link you sent.

  • @UFGatorGuy20 Wrong! Your duty to the youtube community demands you control ALL background noise. That duty required killing all fellow spectators prior to launch as well as any animals in the area (e.g. birds) that might vocalize during launch. Your excuse that you don't control the weather doesn't wash either. At your own expense (obviously) you should have purchased or constructed equipment to completely eliminate background noise due to wind. You should be ashamed of yourself. ;)

  • @irish89055 Second, the link you sent crackles and pops. Have you EVER FELT or HEARD a real launch up close in person? Each "pop" you hear in the video you sent is actually a low deep pounding against your chest and ears. There is absolutely no low frequency capture in that video.

  • @UFGatorGuy20 do one of you guys have a good link to find a good sound of the launch? i thought there were only a few microphones that could survive being close to the launch

  • @UFGatorGuy20

Endeavor launch STS-118 by 'BlueStar118' (the one that says CAUTION! LOUD!!), was uploaded Aug 30, 2007, a little later than your upload. I'm sure you've checked it out by now. Yours is not too bad, but 'BlueStar118' is an impressive experience if one has loud speakers or headphones, plus a stong bass in the sound system really adds to it.

    Cheers

  • yay earth popped a pimple at the beginning

  • well I guess if you were in a hurry to get to space we'd use that much fuel... lol

    awesome power

  • @strangeEMOchild: HAHA

  • I got luck and watched 115 from an MLP at the parksite. Every other time we've tried weve been kicked off though

  • Wow Totaly Awesome i want to see this one day 5 stars!!!!!!

  • That video is epic! where were you filming from? I shot the last launch from titusville but this one is amazing.

  • Nice!

  • That absolutely rules!

  • You're so right!

Witnessing one of these launches in real life was one of my main goals in live. Unfortunately, due to the fact I'm living all across the ocean in Europe, I never was able to.

  • I would like it see though case togethertime in life such start

  • I have only been close enough to hear it once and that was around titusville. I live in Vero so we can see it really well but never hear it.

  • funding is being cut because space is now being corporatism

the US will be hiring private corporations under the new "dragon" program to build a private fleet of space craft to build bases on mars and moon

why privatizes space, basically all property and data acquired in space will be private not public domain so American will have no rights to obtain freedom of information, nor have a say about the weaponization of space

basically you the citizen will be marginalized

  • It's a shame that the Shuttle has only 5

flights left, Cuts to nasa's budget by

Mr. Obama will reduce Kennedy Space

Center to no more than a museum.

  • no, they'll launch re-supply ships, probes, satellites and much more, its not the end

  • put it throught 5.1 and it sound like your there but u have to have it LOUD

  • absoultly amazing, just fascinating, just love this sound, magnificant

  • Amazing. Your title is truth in advertising.

Thanks for not talking, GatorGuy! Though I like your little sigh at 1:04.

Must be literally awesome to see, hear, and feel in your belly, in person. Love the shadow of exhaust plume at 1:22, 1:33.

Hope you can catch STS-131 in March!

  • UFGatorGuy20 Nice video: Can u tell me more about your location from were you saw it. I plane 2 go see it in march. I am not from there. so i dont know the place very well . thks.

  • cool video, what are all those hicks yelling about, "woohoooo"

  • Wow.

  • This is a great video/audio. Anyone that likes this vid may like "From the Earth to the Moon". It's a Ron Howard documovie with all surviving Apollo astronauts on hand for candid interviews. The audio is the best I have personally heard. Great footage.

  • anyone noticed the seagull sound in the rocketbooster sound :) .. soundreflection of the supersonic exoust :) very very awesome :) very good upload :)

  • That was cool no talking. Good job

  • :) thats all i can say :)

  • Nice video, incredible sound!

  • That is why we do that...awesome video...

  • It twists because the crawler launch platform's roadway doesn't allow it to launch in the orientation it needs to be in. Simple as that.

  • The roll program actually involves 3 axes. Pitch for aero loading and keeping a tight q alpha. Yaw helps determine orbital inclination. Roll is for the reason I stated. The crawler and the cooling trenches are leftovers from Apollo. Can't be easily moved. Thanks for playing. Try again.

  • YEA why does the shuttle start to turn when it hits a certain altitidude i have a rough idea,..........it has to fight gravitational pull, and alignment for the coorect orbit! ...........................DOES ANYONE HAVE A COMMENT!

  • @raymondrayban

It has does it to enter into orbit, it needs to follow the curve of the earth otherwise it would fall back down again, if you want to throw a stone a long way from you, you would not throw it straight up would you?

  • There has only been one video on Youtube with "Best sound...." but that video was removed by the author himself. Included a Turkish(?) female reporter who was at the launch site. The guy who shot that launch really had my subwoofer work overtime. Just awsome.

  • Why does it curve like that when it gets all the way to the top? Looks like it goes off course in a way.

  • I think its so they get the right distance from Earth.

  • If the shuttle had went straight up, it would have gone straight down again as soon as the engines had stopped. They have to make the flight curved, so that the shuttle can "fall" around the earth in an orbital path :P

  • you should watch "Space Shuttle Launch From Under Parachute Atlantis STS-117". He/She captured a launch while parachuting. It gives you a unique perspective.

  • Geez! Did you notice the shadow of the smoke column around 1:22? Amazing! And the sound - :D

    Thanks for posting this!

  • that sound gives me chills! amazin!!

  • INCREDIBLE!!

  • Going again on Monday. It's a 3 hour drive that never gets old. If you've never seen it live your an idiot, cause its awesome. Not to mention the tailgating.

  • Look the UFO

  • one of the few things that gives me hope in humanity.

  • So awesome it hurts!!!

  • After the Challenger disaster it takes brave souls to be strapped aboard one of these booster rockets.

    I'm still jelous though.

  • @llandudnoboy actually the astronauts felt SAFER after the Challenger incident because a lot of safety issues that were overlooked where taken care of. Expansion of o-ring joints were known by the techs before disaster, but concerns fell on deaf ears until the shuttle ripped apart. the 24 pre-Challenger missions flew with the same flawed booster design, so actually all of those missions were more dangerous than the ones flown after the Challenger disaster. :)

  • @llandudnoboy It is a lot like John Glen said when asked how he felt sitting atop Gemeni before takeoff: How would you feel strapped to the top of a rocket built by the company that said they could build it the cheapest?!!!!!!!!!!

  • @llandudnoboy Oh yeah, cause strapping yourself on a saturn v, titan, or redstone was safer

  • @pittsey

Strapping ones self to any massive firework has its risks but the incredibly complex Saturn V rocket had a 100% reliability record with none blowing up on the pad or in flight.

The Space Shutle compared to the far larger and prabably more dangerous Saturn V has had quite a few technical problems plus one huge one as well.

  • @pittsey

Atleast the Saturn V was safer with no loss of space craft or rocket throughout its many launches.
