  • I use the baking soda trick also but we call that stuff KY wine where I live. LOL The baking soda keeps it from becoming cloudy too. Great video.

  • @KissHope Thanks ! KY wine, I have never heard that before. Cool. Southern folks love their sweet tea. Darlene

  • Darlene, you just keep on making that good ole Southern Food and don't even give the people that talk trash any attention !! You are great !!

  • @56runningdeer Thank you, you are a very kind person. God bless, Darlene

  • This is what crystal meth does to you kids

  • @passisqqqqqq This comment is un-called for. I really take pity on you. You feel so bad about yourself, that you be-little other people, you feel are weaker and not as smart as you. You made a mistake. I can take care of myself. I don't like mean, cruel, foolish people. Kids this is not how we treat one another ! I realize you lack the wisdom that comes with age, but seriously you are a very late bloomer. Get a clue. Grow up

  • Thank you for sharing this recipe. I'm going to try it tomorrow !

  • YES I GOT IT THE BEST TEA EVER THANKS FOR SHARING THIS RECIPI AM GOING TO USE I OTRHERS DRINKS THAT ARE BITTER I ALREARY DID AND WORK FINE THANS AGAIN

  • @Mega500BALAZOS You are welcome! Darlene

  • I never in my life heard of BOILING THE TEA BAGS!!! I always put the tea bags in the water after it reached boiling. Then turn it off and let it steep.. Never have I heard of the baking soda......but I will try that.

  • @PaTudie My great grand mother always put a pinch of soda in her tea. It has been past down in my family for years. It makes the tea stronger without making the tea bitter. I hate weak tea. There is alot of different ways to do the same thing. Darlene

  • @PaTudie I'm a Northerner, but we put a pinch of baking soda in our iced tea too. It does take away the bitter taste. Baking soda also works when you are cooking with canned tomato products that need to be sweeter but you dont want to ruin the flavor with sugar. Take care.

  • @PaTudie as far as I know, with black tea it doesn't make a lot of difference if you boil or not boil the water with the tea in it.

  • @kittyminty Thanks kitty, Darlene

  • What does the baking soda do?

  • @missmorgan04 the baking soda takes out the bitter taste and it also makes the tea stronger. You only need a pinch. Darlene

  • Your food looks delicious, but I found your video difficult to hear your voice even though I had my volume cranked. It seems if you are too far away from the camera your voice doesn't carry very well - but your food looks delicious!

  • @rockymoon8 sorry rocky. I have a new camera now. I think the sound is better. Thank you for the comment about the food looking delicious. I hope to have some better vid's soon. Thanks Darlene

  • I never thought of using baking soda before - Heck, half my family never even thought to let it seethe. Can't wait til this is done. :D

  • @Drowzee64 I hope you liked the tea, Darlene

  • @DownHomeCooking It was great! It was a little strong though - I got a headache afterwords. :P

  • @DownHomeCooking sorry you got a headache. May be to strong for you. Darlene

  • Hi Darlene, Your Iced Tea recipe is excellent! Funny how we Italian New Yorkers know how to add a pinch of baking soda to our spaghetti sauce, but never think to add some to our iced tea. LOL. Well it works great, so thanks so much! I hope you'll keep making videos, your style is very relaxing (non intimidating). Blessings, Tess

  • @Pattycakessmiles Thank you so much Tess for your nice comments. Come to think about it my grandmother always put a pinch in her sauce too. I'll try that next time I make sauce. I love a good rich sauce. God bless you; Darlene

  • I thought it was a pound of sugar with one tea bag....oh yeah and water.

  • The sugar is whatever you like thats just commonsense, but in your case add a dose of Sarcasm ! I will attribute your lack of commonsense and lack of courtesy to your age.

Thank you and have a nice day. Darlene

  • @DownHomeCooking it's a joke...lighten up. It's just tea.

  • @tipofmytongue1024 It's only a joke when both people are laughing. when one only laughs it's making fun of and it is not well received Darlene

  • @DownHomeCooking well then, you just lost a viewer. I was sincerely interested in your recipes. Good luck.

  • @tipofmytongue1024 grow up! You were being a smart --- and all I did was call you on it. I really hoped that it would make you think about other peoples feelings and to be the beautiful kind person you are inside. The world is full of mean smart------! They are not happy people. Pass the love not the sarcasm. We really do have the power to effect other people lives for good or for bad. Darlene

  • This really works. The bitter taste is gone. Thank you for sharing your secret with us.

Downhomecooking

  • you will have wait until your 21 to enjoy this ice tea. never enjoy when driving. Thanks DownHomecooking

  • ...Baking soda...? That does not sound pleasant.

My family uses saccharin instead. Typically, you take a teapot and fill it with water. Take around six teabags and six saccharin, depending on the size of each and place them in the teapot. Wait for the teapot to whistle, you can steep it if you like. 1-2 cups of sugar in 1/3 gallon of water, dissolved. Combine and serve hot or chilled. I can't stand ice in my tea so depends on how long ago it was made. =P

  • Baking soda takes out all the bitter flavor out and the tea is strong. I really hate weak bitter tea .Saccharin is bitter and not very pleasant. Whatever Waggs yr dogs tail. saccharin is not good for you. Downhomecooking

  • Golly, that sounds great but I can't cook.

  • Good Golly Gomer find you a gal that can cook.

  • using baking soda has been passed down in my family for years. my husband won't drink it without it. (Too weak and bitter!) Know what you mean folks look at me like I have lost my mind. thank you I bet you are from the south. downhomecooking
