  • It's your fucking nightmare!!!!

  • ..... that must have been one major crap he just squeezed out.

I've been there, boys and girls, and i know how much forcing out a 6lb turd hurts

  • The ultimate weapon. One that does not allow your enemy to ever sleep. It drives them slowly mad. After a while, you only have to pick up the pieces. I have a feeling we eventually will have something like that. If our species survives long enough, that is.

  • PSI attacks aren't an atrocity because it'd be impossible to enforce the law, how would you know who is attacking who with mental attacks? If someones being driven insane, you can't interview them to see who is doing it; even if it were possible for them to tell you who it was.

  • The.... the.... FUCK

  • This is what you get when you eat pork grinds before you go to sleep.

  • Why can't I hold all these Nightmares?

  • We must dissent

  • Suprisingly. This saved me from the video of the girl throwing the puppies into the river.

  • where THEE fUUCKING HELL ARE MY KEYSS!!!

  • I believe "Assassin's Redoubt" is a Spartan Fed city, in the quotes Deidre also talks about a "secret war" against the Spartans using mind worm boils. Knowing that the Spartans are a race of crazy cloned tykebombs with a strong emphasis on martial supremacy the Gaians resorted to using mind worms to make up for their lack of aggression and weapons. In the game this is shown with psi combat bypassing a ton of combat bonuses.. I gather the Spartans tried to hold the mind screw with nursery rhymes.

  • ..but the jumping spider was adorable :D

  • I played this game the year it came out. Finished this project. Hid under my blanket for hours.

  • Calm down. You will develop blisters on your typing fingers. As for not seeing anything other than spiders and snakes, it could be a visual acuity problem.

  • Calm down. You will develop blisters on your typing fingers.

  • *off to play 'Alice : Madness Returns'*

  • Were there supposed to be subliminal messages or some shit in this? All I saw was literally b-roll of snakes, spiders, and skulls

  • WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY

  • @Lawdrun

Alright, who the Hell let the voice of Enron in here? : \

  • whats this shit?

  • Huh. No one ever calls you out on using PSI attacks. So, nerve gas is an atrocity, but driving people insane until they claw their own eyes out and such is a-ok.

  • @HatKeinenNamen I guess it's considered okay because it's "voluntary".

  • @HatKeinenNamen Well of course.

Nerve gas can be traced back to you after all.

  • @magmos It's more that nerve gas is specifically covered under the UN Charter, and can kill civilians, which weaponised mind worms can't.

Wild mind worms, meanwhile, aren't in a faction so don't get sanctions.

  • @HatKeinenNamen Well, I imagine that first you'd have to know WHO used PSI attack before calling them out on it and given the nature of this form of offence I think this would be pretty hard.

  • @HatKeinenNamen The UN charter nor Geneva conventions have no clauses on Psi warfare.

  • Normally , most trouble in the world is caused by fucking idiots arguing about stuff.

  • Inception + <9000?

  • Comment removed

  • Wonder if Assassins Redoubt was assaulted by immense Gaian mindworm waves? the flavourtexts hints at conflict between Gaians and Spartans^^

  • It seems most of these projects in Sid Meier Alpha Centauri are kinda depressing or downright creepy. Are there any ones who are beneficial and good and increase the wellbeing of mankind? (I've never played the game)

  • @sErgEantaEgis12 Yes, plenty.

  • @sErgEantaEgis12 When you take all the places that science can go, all the ways that we can change the world around us and ourselves, there are some very creepy and unnerving places we can wind up. However, there are also some awe-inspiring ones too, places that would carry the human condition to new heights and breathtaking experiences.

For beneficial and neat projects, try the longetivity vaccine or the weather paradigm.

  • @sErgEantaEgis12 The weather paradigm, Longevity Vaccine and... well, Clinical Immortality is a bit creepy. I guess you could count the Ascetic Virtues as positive.

  • @MasterAsra Weather Paradigm creepy? It was... neutral and rather nice. The Singularity Inductor - probably the most creeping one, if you think for a moment about the deformation of voice. Universal Translator is also creeping. Just think about it - alien construction and after decoding there is a passage from Bible on it. Cloning Vats, Bulk Matter Transmitter and Self-Aware Colony leave also the unpleasant feeling.

  • @sErgEantaEgis12 Ascetic Virtues - the most cheerful one if you think in wide perspective. Human Genome Project, Hunter-Seeker Algorithm, Network Backbone, Pholus Mutagen (my 2nd favourite in "cheerfulness"), Planetary Transit System, Space Elevator, Supercollider, Telepathic Matrix, Theory of Everything - all of them are definitly "good" and not disturbing at all. But they are heavily confronted with rest, which are from little disturbing to pure mindfuck. Still, they are mostly "good".

  • Note to self: Physic attacks actually result in my eyes melting...

  • used to horrify me back when i was 14

  • @RmanDC I'm 21 now and it still gives me creeps ^^

  • ..B...But that jumping spider was so cute..

  • Okay............

  • The Spartans just couldn't handle the power of the Gaian mindworms...

  • These scenes are from a film called Baraka.

  • OH NO NOT STOCK FOOTAGE AND RANDOM PHOTOGRAPHS ANYTHING BUT THAT

  • 0:33 - "Diarrhea is like a storm raging inside you."

--Tom Servo, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Datalinks.

  • As a species, we're fucked.

  • Wait, so the dreams are so scary you die?

  • @hagamablabla That you can't rest. Than you are starting getting crazy. That's why it ends with nursery rhyme transmitted by Spartan soldiers - they have pudding instead of brains.

  • @Myrth1 Makes sense. It's a hell of a way to go though.

  • i still like the spartans. that lol bastard kell needed his arm back for not doing that thing too quickly. :P

  • i still like the spartans. that like bastard kell needed his arm back for not doing that thing too quickly. :P

  • whatswith all the flashing

  • Well I don't know what all that was about, but everybody in the room with me is now pregnant. Even the men...

  • 0:32

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • Just for the record, I'm a strong believer in ESP, and this video makes me wonder...

...When psychic abilities are truly discovered and easily controlled and used, will the bearers of those gifts be regarded as prophets and bringers of the truth, or will they simply be used as tools, toys and commodities to be bartered by the elite?

  • @Kemonokami

    Both.

  • @Kemonokami

Neither, because ESP doesn't exist. Glad I could clarify!

  • @TehChahlesh

    You'd be surprised.

  • @Kemonokami

No. I'm going to go ahead and be confident that it doesn't exist, mainly because any so-called psychics/ESP-possessors whatever you want to call them, when tested in closed experiments, have been found to be frauds.

  • @TehChahlesh

An Esper's power ebbs and flows, like the tides. One day it's powerful, another day, it's not. Also, Espers rely on this little plane of existence which I call "The Aether", for their abilities. The Aether is constantly changing and shifting, and in some places in the world, the barrier between ours and the next is rather weak, so in some places and times, it's strong and sometimes it isn't. Also, even psychics make mistakes, since the Aether is so immensly complex.

  • @Kemonokami

The scientific method is much more reliable than your pseudo-religious nonsense.

  • @TehChahlesh Yeah? Well, then I will tell you something. The only thing that stops most people from mass-genocide is religion. Ofc you will start now that bullshit about crusades and jihad, but to be honest - all modern societies are based on religious principles of what's good and bad. Otherwise there would be NO good or evil - just law of the stronger. That's exactly how science-based societies work. So even if religion is "bad", it's a must. Otherwise you turn into completly immoral bastard

  • @Myrth1 That or you turn science into god, like Athiests.

  • @Xankara98 If Science is your god, then you are no longer atheist, because there is something you believe in ^^

  • @Myrth1 Drat well by that logic I lose then

  • @Xankara98 That's the only logic behind word "atheist". It's literally "no god". So if no god, then even science can't be your god, as that would turn you into science-worshiper.... Semantics . Nothing, but semantics ^^

  • @Myrth1 Tell that to the illogical atheists guy =(

  • @Myrth1

Or, and just hear me out, people might start a system of government based on not being a dick.

And also, did you really just say that science was always based on killing? Because I'm almost fairly certain all modern society is based on scientific breakthroughs. In fact from what I remember, the Church has the history of driving for dominance of power, not science.

  • @Myrth1

I'm an atheist and I go around killing and hurting everyone I know because I don't believe in god.

  • ?@IAmPhotoBucket Hey me too! Wanna go a shooting spree sometime together?

  • @Kemonokami

Also, if the scientific method does not produce the results we want (e.g. Oh, it turns out global temperature has been totally stable!) either we were doing it wrong (e.g. no it's not! you just took 500 measurements over the course of the last second!) or we revise our theory (new theory: no climate change). We don't say it's because fairyland was under the weather that day. That's a gross oversimplification but my point should be clear.

  • @Kemonokami What science do since humans are capable of rubbing two brain-cells together? Science have just ONE real purpose. To find better, more efficient ways of killing your enemies. The same scheme works for everything.

"People killing people. Which is much what I saw in the four weeks before infection, and the four weeks before that, and before that, and as far back as I care to remember. People killing people. Which to my mind, puts us in a state of normality right now" as mjr West put it

  • @Myrth1 Let's all take a moment to enjoy the irony of someone complaining about how evil science is... on the internet.

  • DeftClown: I always figured it was just his attempt to block out empaths to his brain so they wouldn't find anything important.

  • This has got to be the only thing that has ever genuinely made me scared, creeped out or mind raped...T_T I couldn't watch past the first five seconds.

  • Mind rape! Make it stop!

  • game? these are scenes from the documentary baraka....

  • @feedyourheadddd - "Footage from the film is used in the game Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri as secret project cutscenes." From baraka wiki page

  • the scream is just saying get me out of this place its too much..

    everyone need to let go

globalization is taking over religion and culture

he is just scream to let out the stress of it all

  • @susansweety123

No, the scream is saying "mind worms are melting my brain OHGODOHGODOHGOD".

  • The nursery rhyme may indicate the victim's regression to a more childish state, possibly because of the mind's desire to ignore and forget about the horrors of PSI assaults. Not that it was effective though.

  • @DeftCrowMk3

Assasssin's Redoubt is a Spartan city.

"Convincing" a tough guy to write this nursery rhyme is the result of heavy mindfuck!

  • this prokect rocks with the gaians ability to make the mind worms, but i perfer giving it to th spartans building the psi gun on choppers with clock, fusion reactor clean ability or the photon armor but that takes time any one know if this game is multiplayer if it is we should connect online and just duke it out

  • Did anyone else have to resist the urge to blink?

  • Best fucking video game EVER!

  • ill never sleep again

  • Did he just have an orgasm ?

  • @LulzBat No he failed his math test

  • HOLY SHIT!!! i just pissed myself :(

  • OH SHI-

  • this is terrifying

  • Dude, what the hell? that is fucking weirder than anything else...I mean really, total mind-screw.

  • Psycho 35: Next Nightmare coming soon to your space-cinema....

  • UH-OH SCARY DREAMS I'VE NEVER HAD THESE BEFORE WHAT DO I DO

  • actually... this is from the movie baraka...

  • @CptSchmidt yes, they borrowed quite a lot of footage from baraka ;-D

  • Baraka edited.

  • Alpha Centauri's vids really beat the shit out of Civ IV's wonder videos...this one is scary lol

  • Anybody else shit themselves?

  • Data with a bad hair day.

  • You know, I'm really starting to appreciate a previously unseen SMAC quality: potentially insightful youtube comments.

  • aaaaAAAAAaah!

  • What the fuck? How weird.

  • I find the "creepy" thing the Asian guy does with his eye-lids impossible to take seriously becuase it reminds me of a dumbfuck at one of my old schools who used to do that...

  • WoW. That was creepy.

  • Real question is, is that final transmission that of a man with his mind shattered, or those trying to keep his mind from shattering?

  • Assassins' Redoubt is a Spartan Base that is attacked using PSI instead of weapons. The Dream Twister increases the effectiveness of PSI attacks. The final transmission was likely sent by someone who was a victim of the attack. It's also possible the transmission was a random selection from the Planetary Datalinks.

  • BARAKA!

  • @christo1242 YEESS Baraka is really a great Visual Firework !!

  • Oh come on, you're going to need to do a let better than that to drive me insane with your telep-

    *2girls1cup*

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH

  • This is seriously creepy stuff. This is just the worst kind of inhumanity...

  • @ElChrisman99

Thats what mindworms do when they get inside your brain.

    Nasty.

  • you realy get your moneys worth with this game.

  • Mary, Mary, Had a Lamb

    Whose Fleece Was Quite Contrary

    She Sat On A Needle

And Went Mad? For A Week

Staining Her Poor Baby Blood Red

  • Am I mad?

  • @EebstertheGreat

You see, you see. I see you see. I will give you a secret before the rest, now.

  • Freeman knows me but I fear him

  • This is familiar.

  • gay

  • what is the significance of "Mary had a Little Lamb" here?

  • @Spirals95 Under that it says "--Assassin's Redoubt" A redoubt is a place or situation in which someone feels safe because they know that nobody can attack them or spoil their peace. So... imagine a psi soldier who goes inside other peoples' minds for a living and makes them go insane. And then the psi soldier goes home and rocks back and forth singing Mary Had a Little Lamb over and over to comfort themselves, perhaps, into a nightmare-ridden sleep. So yeah.

  • @Twerty222

Oh? So you thinking the person singing the nursery rhyme may well be the psi-attacker, rather than the victim? An interesting notion... Doesn't really fit with the base having been lost though...

  • This is the reason I hope that any type of "psychic" warfare will never be developed. This does not even begin to demonstrate the potential horror of it.

  • well that was fairly fucked up. reason or this clip?

  • It's the Dream Twister. It's supposed to be fucked up. The Secret Project gives a bonus to all PSI attacks. The video is supposed to be a clue as to why (hint: it's fucked up and you're fucking them up by beaming this shit into their heads while they're supposed to be shooting at you)).

  • Well I won't be sleeping tonight.

  • Mindfucked. don't play this video at home in dark all alone...trust me, i cant sleep now..

  • Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb. Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow.

  • what..the..fuck

  • ...Huh. I recognize this from Baraka.

  • @RomZomCom it is alpha centauri has a lot of scenes from it.

  • what is baraka

  • isnt it copyright

  • that was scary...

  • I'll play the role of captain obvious: That was slightly scary

  • I don't want to sound like an idiot but can anyone tell me what probe teams do?

  • Sure. Spy, steal, assassinate, poison, incite, and detonate the occasional nuke. DId I miss anything?

  • cheers

  • spy and sabatoge missions

  • @Adventchild8 steal tech, do espionage, etc

  • You can't really say the game's anti-religion. The game factions are all about extremes. In fact, not just extremes, but also presenting each in the worst light possible. Miriam is a book-burning fanatic. Morgan presents the worst of the uncontrolled capitalism, Yang the worst in totaliratian socialism. Bro Lal is the hypocritic bureucrate. Deirdre is a "near-insane eco-maniac" that cares for the ecosystem more than for the people, Zakharov is a mad unscrupulous scientist...

  • ...and Spartans are goverment run by the military. Is the game anti-all-that, then?

The faction I personally hate the most are, in fact, Peacekeepers. Pact up with you, then swarm you with probe teams and steel all your tech, maps and energy.

And idealogically, I'd hate Yang the most (even though he's my second favorite to play).

Miriam is just good at what she's designed for - conquest. If you're a builder, she'll rape you, and if you're a conqueror, she'll rape you too.

  • This game is "anti" nothing.

All ideologies are taken to the n-th level, thus revealing nearly all of their pro's and con's. Everyone is designed to be both hated and admired.

In real life, there are no good guys and there are no bad guys. We all just want to survive and do things according to our beliefs.

  • My point exactly.

SgtHydra, where did you get all that lore from? I must admit I rather skipped through the game narrative - is it all from the game, or were there other published sources?

  • It isn't so much "lore" as it is a mess of individual facts, statements, and concepts all scatter about. Peice em together in any way you like. Usually, it doesn't really matter.

Take this very cutscene. What does it mean? Well, the Assasin's Redoubt is a Spartan Base and a "final transmission" from them means some srs shit has gone down. Imho, they got mind raped by the dream twister. Big time.

But you'd never know that from just watching the clip. You gotta interpret things a bit.

  • Yeah, I got that bit. But, seems like I've missed a lot other stuff, so I'll have to dig back into those interludes and movies, then :)

    Thanks!

  • @SgtHydra

Haven't played, but from these videos and various previews all it really tried for was 'Extremes' of ideologies .... where our current day ones could go if we let them.

  • @theemrx Well, the subtlies of each ideology were also in play.

For example, an entrepenteur would have a better go in Morgan Industries than, say, among Gaia's Stepchildren, while the air would likely be cleaner in the latter.

Little things like that aren't usually in all the dogma these videos show.

  • @MysticalUnibrow

Well, whether the factions are over-the-top actually depends on the personal perspective. The game is ambiguos enough to let you decide for yourself whether green economics (for example) is environment-friendly sanity or dangerous eco-extremism. I use to switch my opinion based on my faction, which is perfectly possible. The only faction I cannot stand are the Believers, for they are truly Fundamentalist and in every aspect designated to lead wars, even more than the Spartans.

  • @MysticalUnibrow that's the best summary i've come across :)

  • @MysticalUnibrow

And Colonel Santiago is a war mongering, gun warshipping psycho...

  • @MysticalUnibrow This is one of the best posts I have read on youtube.... ever ;)

  • @MysticalUnibrow and cor's a SPARTAN!!!

  • @MysticalUnibrow

Actually I think that's a rather simplistic interpretation of the characters/factions. They are all quite nuanced and well rounded;even the most extreme like Miriam and Yang have some quite profound insights.

  • @MysticalUnibrow: It doesn't just present them in the worst light, though. It gives all of them redeeming features, including Miriam.

  • @MysticalUnibrow I think they did a poor job of making Zakharov seem evil in my eyes.

  • @justicetrooper

Look up Unit 731 or Josef Mengele. That's the dark side of University-ran society.

  • @LuminarNightblade

*shudder* 731 is my equivalent to 666...

  • @LuminarNightblade Uh, what? Unit 731 and Mengele both operated under military authority, not in affiliation with academia. You're way off base here.

  • @justicetrooper

    Why would Zakharov be evil?

  • @justicetrooper Well, he wasn't "evil". Just without any morality. But to be honest, if you read description of few early social techs, you will find out that ALL factions resign classic Earth morality, to replace it with the new, effective (but not so nice) moral code (Ethical Calculus and it's prequestor)

  • This scene is from the movie Baraka.

  • Scary.

  • Of all factions, living under Yang would be the toughest.

But in the game itself, they are all psychos that need to be crushed!

  • somebody help the poor guy he was just rickrollled

  • This tech is High-Octane Nightmare Fuel, literally.

  • Ugh I hate that site so much. Bunch of over-emotional furries.

  • @Lazyguy22

Same here bro. The worst of furries, Pedophiles, and Wapanese rolled up into one despicable community
