luxembourg will never belong to france! It's like Switzerland or Austria and the countries are independent. but in Switzerland and Austria, German is spoken.
Back to the original quote, hope Streetmember's insecurities can't spoil it these time: in my opinion Luxembourg is a great place, especially *because of* the language situation. Being nasty about the language issue can drive the situation to ugly problems, like in Quebec.
Also sou ee krassen Accent hun ma zwa och net, gell...
Nuje, du hues dat awa trotzdem deck gudd gemaach, mai Jong, mee ech muss da awer soen, wanns du wieklech sou Franséich schwätzs, dann deess de ma Leed... ;)
The Video is funny cause it's so exaggerated and a parody. But remember that the amount of Luxembourgish people which at least try to speak French is still higher than the amount of in Luxembourg living French people trying to speak Luxembourgish. I really don't get it. Imagine some Luxembourgish people living in France telling French people to speak Luxembourgish, they would be crucified. So what do you care, you should give them some respect that they at least try to be kind to you. Damn.
That's for sure! But I think it's their(our) own fault, as we always try to adapt ourselves to foreigner's! If we'd stick to one language(Luxemburgish), the foreigners have to learn an other language! So, they don't come anymore and we are going to lose a lot of money! And you must agree that the multilinguitic society is one of the reasons for our wealth! Just compare it with Switzerland!
@Streetmember Earth to Streetmember: Your language is spoken by half a million people. That's as many as you cat fit in a U2 concert. French is spoken by "a bit" more people. Is there any famous literature in Luxembourgish? Any songs? Is even the mere fact that you have your own language known more than 100kms from Luxembourg? No.
Luxembourg is a great place, especially *because of* the language situation. But get back to earth: your language does not matter.
so, by your logic, if some chinese people come to france it's fine for them to speak chinese and you have to adept, because chinese is spoken by so many more people than french. RIIIIIGHT...
"Spoken Chinese (hànyǔ 汉语/漢語 or zhōngguóhuà 中国话/中國話) comprises many regional varieties, the primary ones being Mandarin, Wu, Cantonese, and Min. These are not mutually intelligible, but for sociological and political reasons are considered a single Chinese language"
@Streetmember Listen carefully: Chinese is not a spoken language. Read your quote: "These are not mutually intelligible". Chinese is a written language, what is called HongKong in Cantonese, is called Siankong in Mandarin, the most-spoken language in China.
Back to the topic: Luxembourgish has no important literature and a minute speaker base. Get a life.
read my quote " Spoken Chinese ... comprises many regional varieties" its like different dialects and sublanguages. but all of it is officially chinese. Like "Sächsich" and "Bayrisch" in germany, all of it is German.
as you said btt. no important litarature... Michel Rodange. Another important guy was Robert Schuman who by the way was also Prime Minister of France... twice. there are more butI think you get my point.
@Streetmember No, moron, it's not like "Sächsich" and "Bayrisch" in Germany! Do you know what "intellegible" means? Then look it up, because you don't understand your citation.
@LMB222 and what is it about our language being spoken by, as you say, a "minute speaker base". So.... We are one country, we got one language. It's as easy as that. People who come to work here get my respekt and I ask the same from them. I don't laugh if your luxembourgish isn't perfect, so you don't laugh if my french isn't perfect. Period!
by the way. I got a life. it's pretty fine. Thanks.
and now I stop feeding the troll. Sorry if you stay hungry.
I'm not even Luxembourger, but would you argue Malay is a language? Or Moldovan? One of the hundreds of creoles and pidgins? Because they are recognised as such and are official in their country. The border between "language" and "dialect" is, after a certain threshold, purely an arbitrary/political one. Even most linguists acknowledge this fact.
I wish french people could speak so good luxembourgish as luxembourger speak french! That would be great. So, we don't have to speak a foreign language in our country!!!
thats awful... it sounds like these announcements at the central station in Luxembourg City by CFL. Is it so difficult for luxemburgish people to get rid of their accent...? A slight foreign accent is pretty normal, but thats just horrible. especially if you know that lots of luxemburgish people pronounce french like this guy in that clip.
Its certainly not everybody, I know some people that have the accent, but most have got rid of it and you hardly haer a difference to other frenchspeking people.
well id wish to meet more of these people. most of lux people i know just dont care bout their accents. but i do. i care about languages. thats the greatest advantage youve got in luxemburg. 4 different languages...

@Streetmember You're right, there's no sense feeding the troll. You have the same "small penis problem" about your language like the Flemish do.
And by the way, for many scholars adding orthography to an existing dialect is just this: new orthography for an existing dialect.

I love Luxembourg and luxembourgish People and I m going to start learning luxembourgish.
But what you said is a bit stupid. French People are very bad when speaking a foreign language, everybody knows this fact,
but you forgot one thing. French language is with luxembourgish and german one of the 3 official languages of the Great Duchy.
Luxembourgish is not an official language in France.
Compare what may be compared.
And there is no insult in this video, just joke.
