I'm a huge Keith Moon fan but Kenny Jones held it down on this album. The man does not get enough credit. No matter who stepped on the throne after Keith, they were going to get a hard time from some of the fans. Any musician that has listened to Face Dances can tell you that Jones is no slouch.
This band has given me YEARS of pleasure. I was a bit put off by Pete's bad press about the abuse thing but I'm not interested in propaganda and I wasn't there to actually know what it was all really about...so fuck it..........PLAY ON!!!!
"Face Dances" is such an underrated album. Granted, their sound was never the same after Keith died. But this is still exponentially better than anything on the charts today.
we always knew The Who could play great fast, and great slow songs, great loud, and great soft songs, plus they could smash-up gutairs with the best of 'em, so the only remaining question was, "Yeh, but can they dance ?" and this vid shows that they can. :)
They sure did mellow out since Keith Moon died, with their 80s haircuts ,and Pete not doing a single windmill, duck hop, or power slide. That along with Roger using a mic stand. STILL it's a great song!!!
@coalb389 Yeah...maybe you like how they cooled their act, and i want to give them props for adapting to the 80s way...but i suspect the sad truth that they were just being, plain old uncreative sellouts. going witht he herd. everything the who seemed like they were against.
I was walking with my rain jacket of 9 years over my shoulder, here in my 2nd homeland of Holland...the wind blew it into the canal. I jumped form boat to boat, trying to find a pole to save it, but to no avail . I posted a FaceBook message with a "rest in peace" sentiment.
2 people independently posted this song as a sarcastic condolence...
Is it just me or does this song belong on "Louder than Bombs" by the Smiths? I think Pete was having a Marr moment when he came up with this. What is good is that John Entwhistle still has his totally massive 10,000W bass rig to play this light brit-pop ditty.
John Entwhistle always reminded me of Bill Wyman and John Paul Jones. That is, they all hung out in the background, just playing the music. None of them hungered for the spotlight, but all of them were essential to their group's success. RIP John.
i gotta admit they all look really young in this video. RIP Moonie, i really don't listen to the stuff the who did after he died, but I can definately hear the difference.
Great number , i thought it was about keeping hold of your faith IE your Mum;s coat on the high street when you are a kid,, a metaphor if you like,,nice one Pete,,
i dig Roger but i also love Kenny Jones and all is drumming , you can't replace Keith, i play the drums , and every drummers is like a fighter, and every fight is different ,, Listen to Kenny's intro on 'you can make me dance you can make me sing' ,, an intro to die for man ,, I'm sure Roger can be petulant but my money would be on Kenny to knock him out during the rehearsals for the main bout !
I have to admit, this isn't my favorite who song by far, but it's far and away better than many other 80's style music...3.5 stars out of 5 in my book
I always felt Kenny Jones never got the respect he deserved. Of course he didn't have the wild abandon of Keith Moon, but the 2 albums he cut with them grooved like none before.
Daltrey tried to tell him how to drum like Keith and Kenny told him to fuck off,, Dartrey bottled it and got rid of him , after all the Small Faces were the REAL mod band , The Who jumped on the band wagon, i do love the who , but having played in inflammatory bands myself , i know shit goes down and there's always confrontation, and personality disorders,,
@spadge321 Roger never told Kenny to play like Keith! Roger released a statement when Keith died, and said that "The Who will continue, but what everyone has to understand, is it will never be the same" Roger hated Kenny Jones because Kenny felt as though he was the official drummer for The Who as opposed to a replacement. He was a great drummer, but he was also an asshole. He reminded me of The Who's wooden leg!!!!
I take your point yeah man, but I feel as a drummer myself and as a recovering alcoholic that if the Sex Pistols exploited Sid's naivety so did The Who with Keith, they knew he was vulnerable and a time bomb, so everyone waited for the inevitable, at least the Stones booted Brian out to try and wake him up a bit,, but in all honesty I do think The Who had shot their load by 76 anyway,, all the rest is nostalgia and rehashed half ass ideas,,
no he never , get your facts right , that's what broke his heart , technically it was his fucking band as well , they bundled him out , there was a pay off too , and Brian Talked getting a better band together in his more lucid moments a band like Creedenence clear water which he was very much into at that time , so come on man , lets not re wirite history eh ?
theres enuff heads that try and re write their own ego history IE , Keith suddenly saying he was into Robert Johnson when he was 14 , liar, Brian got him into all that serious blues stuff,, the dead can't argue their case though can they, and then theres Mc Cartney denying the fight he had with Stuart

The Who just as I remember them from the spring of 1981 just after I saw them for my first time on German TV's Rockpallast. I was16. I went out and bought Face Dances and I've been married to them ever since. Funny enough I was told that I was digging an OLD group. Looking at this video today make it even funnier. They look so GOOD. The idea that they was gonna split the year after is completely absurd. But they did. But they have come back, thank heaven,
I don't fucking care this song isn't played anymore, I don't care that this was mostly ignored when it was released . . . .This is a great Who Song, this is a great fucking song.

@spadge321 I believe you're right. If I'm not mistaken, this is either dedicated to or
is about Townshend's spiritual mentor Mehar Baba. Also, all three members wanted
Kenny Jones to return for the reunion shows starting in the late 1980s, but he
declined. There had just been too much tension on the 82 farewell tour. Remember
Bob Geldof comparing getting the four of them together for Live Aid to getting one
man's four ex-wives together? LMAO!
