do you have shift kit if not you should think about installing one..........maybe change the rear end rear and some subframe connectors..........but the shift kit i would b4 anything else.......
@staywithaces1984 Oh yes I'm way past a shift kit now. Once I went to an intercooler it finished off the stock trans and I build a Pro Street Automatic's 700r4 and a Vigilante 9.5" converter.
@WHITEPOPOLO It helds up very well.. I went a little over 10k miles when I got the stupid idea to build a new TPI 350. It has only gone 5 mph faster in the 1/8th so far, so quite a waste of $4000. Stock engine had nothing wrong with it when I tore it down.
@Naturalhit A lot of people ask about that. It's actually just an inlet box that came with the turbo manifold. It had some sort of integrated blow off valve as well. Basically it was that quickest way to get the turbo hooked up but I've long since moved to an air to air intercooler. As for air to air vs liquid to air, for an all out street vehicle my choice is air to air.
That's pretty cool that you've turboed an IROC. I use (and still do) love those cars when I was a kid. I'm looking forward to seeing more numbers from that beast!
@zipper778 It's a lot of fun! The new engine is in now (haven't upgraded the turbo yet though) and it's running much stronger. In fact I'm leaving in about three hours to go to a dyno night so keep an eye on my videos late tonight or tomorrow. It should put down mid 300's rwhp now.
@justinvahoos0689 This dyno session was before I intercooled it. The rwhp and rw torque increase was 31% above typical stock numbers. Based on my 1/8 et at the time of this session (8.67) and the et after intercooling (7.89), my rwhp increased another 90 after intercooling. So a total of about 150 rwhp or 182 crank hp at 12.5 psi. Not bad on a 230hp engine!
remember hp dont mean shit. its the torque that pulls you down the track and your making what 100ftlbs more than your hp number. thats why tractor trailers have 550hp but they got 1200ftlbs of torque the torque is where its at everybody thinks its hp and its not true.
I have a soft spot for third gen Camaros. Had a Z28 in High School. I love this car. Low bucks, lots of fun. Keep it up. I can't wait to see what it turns into. I'm guessing it will be a sleeper for sure. Thanks for posting this video, screw the haters.
@MrAristes Thanks. I'm coming up on 10k miles with the turbo now and the car is still alive, along with a new paint job and interior. Now I've just got to finish my engine build and upgrade the turbo to have a real fun ride (and definitely will retain full sleeper status!)
@madtownmadman So far I've only killed the stock 700r4. I rebuilt it with a Pro Built Automatics pro-street kit around September '10 and it has held up nicely so far. The real test will be with the new engine going in next month.
Wow just read through the posts, looks like you picked up a Youtube troll lol. Guess he doesn't realize this build was done for the fun of it, not to mention you've been in the game for the last 20+ years.
that time I ran was 156K on a stock engine, no turbo, or anything. U just need to upgrade to a larger turbo, and in theory you can make 500+ hp, any moron that works on cars can build anything, it just won't always work well.
Hey I just found a time slip from my camaro, I ran a a 8.81 at 77.19 mph at 66, I have the time sheet, so you thinkin your mph would be 110 is crazy, you have a small turbo and your choking your engine.
@zz3astro not calling you a liar but I find it hard to believe your car runs in the 7's at only 272 rwhp. My Mustang had 375 rwhp and barely ran 7's and it's not that much heavier than a third gen (maybe 300 lbs). But I can kind of believe it if you're a light weight driver and this is a manual. I weigh 180 (putting the car at about 3700 lbs.+) and my car is an automatic. I would like to see the vid you were speaking of though; I'll look for it again.
@zz3astro Nevermind, I saw your run and numbers don't lie (nice run BTW). Will that turbo work for a 305 TPI? and if so, what kind do I need to get? I have a rebuilt 700R4, is it stupid to put a turbo in with that?
@huntergluck No problem man.. one thing about these dyno vids is they were prior to my intercooler install. At the time of this vid I was running 8's. The intercooler let me add a good bit of timing and put me into the 7's. This turbo is an Ebay T70. It's 60mm and would work quite well with a stock or modded 305. A 700r4 can be made to hold up, just gotta be careful as the turbo will make a ton of torque at part throttle. Call Pro Built Automatics and he can get you the mods you'd need.
Hey I just found a time slip from my camaro, I ran a a 8.81 at 77.19 mph at 66, I have the time sheet, so you thinkin your mph would be 110 is crazy, you have a small turbo
well no offense, but you know what, your not that smart. U need at least a 76mm turbo with a a/r of .96 or better, your shit is crap. You should have at least pushed 400horses with injectors and a decent turbo. But that turbo is too small, and is choking your engine. Your car won't run for shit in the 1/4 your your another 760 feet, and going to a 2.77 gear isn't gonna make you faster, do you want a 160mph dog? My subaru wagons stereo is louder than your car man, 129dbs
Yeah I put over 20K on my iroc with a 91 s10 gear, its not bad, I even let my gf drive my car, check that recent video man. I don't know whats your 1/4 mile time then? Post it because with a TPI intake doesn't make a lot of power up top. So let me ask you some questions since your willing to talk about this. What size is your turbo? inlet exhaust size? A/R size? What like 70mm t04/t03? Or what? Do you have a website?
@cronsformula350 Check description for a link to the build. Turbo is a 60mm Ebay 'T70' for the stock engine, will be a 67 to 72 mm for the new engine (Precision Turbo not ebay). You're right, TPI has a pretty narrow power band. Right now I have a 3.27 rear but with the new combo I may go to a 2.77. Also I built the transmission for WOT in overdrive. I've only ran 1/8 mile as you can see in my other vids. Likely I will not run the current engine at the track again. It's reached its max.
@cronsformula350 My 1/8 mile time projects to 12.30 in the 1/4 which would put me around 110 mph. With the 3.27 gear on stock size tires, that puts me at 4800 in drive (not accounting for converter slip). . My new setup should run 6.99 in the 1/8 and 10.99 in the 1/4. We don't have any 1/4 tracks nearby, but if I ran the 1/4 that would be around 123 mph which is 5400 rpm (no slip added). As long as I don't try to go faster than that in the 1/4, the 3.27 will work fine.
Hey buddy, I got rid of that for a reason, I'm not a baby, I don't need power steering. I drove an 87 iroc that ran 13.8's with a bad trans, and 160K mile engine. I didn't spend anything near the price your throwing out there. I have a lot of friends, like brian black, and he has cars, you'll never have a chance to compare yours too, turbo boy. Oh yeah, my rims and tires, I got for $200. Your expensive turbo on a stock engine, is on borrowed time & not working! Anyone else impressed?
Man that thing sounds like a dog, wow my formula with over 130K and a bad posi and slipping nittos, makes at least 70+ more hp on 87 octane! Sorry, no offense, but your can't just throw parts on a car and make it fast man. Learn how to spend your money wisely
@cronsformula350 Offended? You come in here trying to school me about where I spend MY money while you have $800 heads, a $500 HSR intake, $500 headers, $250 in a cam, $250 roller rockers, $300 aluminum radiator. That is more than I have in everything I've done to my engine thus far!! Let's not forget your $pohn suspension and drag radial$. And yet you compare your 13.20's to my 12.40's (based on 1/8 et), when you don't even have power steering or AC!! LMAO
@samllblockboy Cool.. what does it run in the 1/8th mile? That must be one heck of a built 355 if it goes faster than 7.80's on a full interior/accessories Z28.
@MrJsowa yea, my ls1 makes about 350 rwhp up to 6k rpms and i dont have any drivability issues. Also I have instant power as soon as I drop it down a gear, im sure my 4.11 gears help too, but thats whats nice about a 6speed. That TPI intake is a HUGE power restriction, that is the problem. its a 305....350 would put up higher numbers.....
flgkingpin 1 year ago
Consider that a stock 350 TPI would make about 200hp at the wheels, and this one is stock except for the turbo system.
mikesteelheart 1 year ago
@mikesteelheart no the 5.7 tpi stock produced 235 hp. the 305 tpi i have in my z28 has 217 hp, even though Chevy rates it at 190 hp.
michelXShawn 1 year ago
@michelXShawn they only make that at the flywheel, not the rear wheels. more like 180 at the rear wheels for the 5.7.
firechicken76 1 year ago
