@piemakesmelol you're right, they don't compare. they're two completely different styles. if youre into punk, pop and simple melodies than ya you probably think nirvana is better. on the other hand if you like metal, punk, acustic and also wish your music to have depth beyond just lyrics then AIC is better. simplicity or complexity? have it your way.
@loranceb- Wrong, Nirvana's lyrics and music is far more meaninful and unique...they have far more depth. Something in the Way, Milk It, Heart Shaped Box....AIC could never hope to write such good songs. It's a fact of life that Nirvana are the superiour band, deal with it.
@loranceb- But that's not the point though is it, music doesn't have to be complex to be good. Having a guitar play a million miles an hour doesn't make a song any better. As long as the song SOUNDS good I wouldn't care if it was just one note over and over again, if it sounds good it sounds good no two ways about it. Kurt had a tremendous sense of melody, and the fact that the songs were simple was what made them catchy.
@piemakesmelol so then you agree with first statement. nirvana has simple melodies, which i guess would render them "catchy" because untalented listeners can recite the melody in front of their friends and be like "oh ya I'm down with the sickness". my favorite thing about nirvana is that their most complex and popular songs are actually covers. they didnt even take the time to change the songs from its original format to make it unique or "theirs"... but their fans believe they did. funny!
@loranceb- Yes Nirvana do have simple melodies, but why is it that you see that as a bad thing? Simple songs can be very good, what about this song? Be Stiff is pretty simple, but it's awesome. Ramones are another band that have VERY simple melodies. And what about AIC they're hardly the most complex band on the planet! Would is a simple song. Also, Nirvana do have complex songs, Aero Zepplin, Anyerusm for example go check them out. Complexity can sometimes suck, Dragonforce or something. Shit.
