the only thing i know is that calexico is boring. and so small. it would be awesome if calexico and el centro became and and make a city, it'd be so amazing.
The problem is not making Hwy 111 into an expressway, Northbounb traffic is fine they usually hit speeds of 50mph even with 4 traffic lights between 98 and the border. Southbound traffic that needs to be rerouted thru C Chavez Blvd and 2nd St. Private parking is available west of the RxR and even if you had more people walking 24hrs crime rate would not change maybe even increase. Low rent housing? who is going to pay or that? Displace current land/homeowners to build them? be realistic.
I have, I lived in Salinas and had family in S.J. First off Calex is nothing like S.J. so you cant compare the two. To fix a bordertown like Calexico you are going to have to find a way to get a hold of a miracle.
So YOU think that low rent housing near retail or business will bring people in. I dont know anyone who wants to shop near low rent housing. What type of people rent low rent? Usually people with criminal backgrounds. I think you need a new hobby. "Fixing" cities isnt working for you.
