I'm from Canada and I understand alot more then you think.I'm actually located in Montreal and 1 of the best food market is Jean Talon market here's why : 1-) It's in the heart of the city. 2-) Like other big cities around the world people tend to walk more and these people tend to ask for more local produces. 3-)It's easy to access for commuters as well as motorist. 4-) Merchants adapt to their customers and prices aren't that bad. In conclusion the way the city is made 4 farmers !!!
I think the idea of renting plots of land, is probably the future. Because the value of the dollar is plummeting like a rock. And with our future generations, its not going to go anywhere, and a huge chunk of land... is probably out of the question. It might even be something that takes generations to pay off.
@MRSketch09 No kidding!!! I don't think the answer is MORE government. I think in England they pay something like 65% income tax. I'll pay for my kids college that's why I live in the U.S. The real answer is educating people in what their government allows these corporate farms to put in (on) their food. Then and only then will people support locally grown foods to the point farmers can make a living.
I don't think its as elaborate as your group makes it.
Most people are still asleep still. I think most people just don't want to spend the extra 25% of buying local, when they can go to Wal Mart and buy super cheap food from a factory farm.
1/3 of the country is on food stamps. People aren't going to spend their welfare at the farmers market, they want to most for their money
Farmers today really have to want the life, because they will never make any money at it.
