  • One of these crashed with baby cargo aboard during the first Operation Babylift flight

  • how heavy is that thing it looked like it just floated off the floor

  • @deadlyhydra Appeared to be empty.

  • @LoveAviatio lol

  • They had one of these fly over the patriots afc championship game. It seemed to be going rather slow.

  • my graphics card sounds like a C5

  • @ItWasntMe456 Thats one of the best comments so far LOL

  • @ItWasntMe456 It must be made by Nvidia then.

  • @XxNx007xNxX hehe. yea msi gtx 570 twin frozr III power edition. the fans were horribly out of phase so i sent it back.

  • It looks like its only going 50mph, how did it take off?

  • @zxcy28462 It looks like it's going 50 mph because it's so big. You have to figure that a car is slightly larger than the windows up at the front where the pilots sit. That will give you a better indication of how fast it's moving.

  • The sound of the engines revving up for takeoff was beautiful

  • sounds like a hoover.

  • the way i see it, its so chubby on my screen . . it look so adorable taking off . . hahah

  • Yeah, there's NO DOUBT it's empty or so close to it you just as well call it empty. With a max takeoff weight of 550,000 lbs it don't take off AT GROSS like this !! Gravity would have something to say about a takeoff roll this short !

  • @d082088 Actucally its Max takeoff weight is over 800,000lbs.

  • holy crap.

anyone know what the takeoff distance was? seems quite short lol

  • Wow, I dk why my YouTube recommended this video, or why I even watched it for that matter. But that was incredible. Really makes you think how amazing the human mind is...

  • That is insane!!!! A true marvel.

  • Saw one of these at an airshow as a kid.You can't get a sense of just how big they really are until you're near one of these monsters.

  • Love the sound of those Rolls Royce turbines!

  • @fermie125 General Electric TF39s!

  • 1992 I was stationed in Rota, Spain. I was snorkling in shallow water a few miles from the runway. The water began to shake as if there was an earthquake. I came up, looked up, a C5 was coming in for a landing. The power of that plane is tremendous.

  • small little baby engines compared to 777

  • @PInk77W1 I would expect so with over 30 years of development in between.

  • @robaksha very true.

  • the turbines sound ridiculous!

  • WHAAAAAAAAAAT A PLAAAAAAAAAAAAANE!

  • wow

    only watch from 1:33

  • They need to make a variant that will replace the AC-130.

  • @Arbiter7897 AC-5? Take a C-5 and give it a bank of guns. The broadside of an AC-5 would be a force to reckon with.

  • Must be empty, eh?

  • these go over my house every day, i live in Australia but we have a military base 10 mins up the road which has a usaf section.

  • So is this C-5 everywhere? Because there is a C-5 like an hour away from me. I went to go see it/go in it when i was in the 5th grade.

  • @simaddict95 Ya they are at US military bases pretty much everywhere.

  • @LoveAviation Yeah When I was in SAC we called them BFWM's.....LOL

  • @simaddict95 usually at POE or POD's

  • @simaddict95 ........and some reserve units like Stewart in NY or Westover in MA.

  • Question is, will it blend?

  • wow is that even possible?

  • Does somebody know how much distance of runway needed this plane to do it????

  • @RomelioSanzz i think 3000ft

  • it sucks now that the super galaxy doesn't have the classic scream sound on the engines

  • DIS IS A BIG ASS PLANE!!!!

  • When I lived in mississippi these things would be about two hundred feet above my house.. :)

  • Sounds a bit like the old DC10s, don't you think?

  • @ta666ak666 Nope. Nothing sounds like these old C5's. Sadly, the new C5M's sound like every wimply generic plane in the world.

  • @ta666ak666 Yes, the DC-10-10's with the GE CF6-6 engine had a distinctive roar on take-off and initial climb. Not quite as loud as the GE TF-39 engine on the C5 in all phases of flight. Will be a shame when they are modded to C5-M's with GE CF6-80C2 engines.

  • what a sound! very cool!

  • how does that airplane get off the ground

  • Sadly, this is used to transport deceased military back to USA.

  • @michaelpilot1000 You think thats its only purpose?

  • I miss being in the military.

  • WTF!!!

  • With the C-5 having no cargo little fuel take offs like this are normal.

  • if i could,i would marry it

  • the sound of an C5 Galaxy is something special

  • Wow, that is the shortest takeoff of a jet I have ever seen! Almost cannot believe it is real.

  • @usernameVEVO *no*

  • I LOVE THIS PLANE !!!

  • nothing like the buzz of a turbofan at supersonic tip speed

  • she's a screamer

  • it sounds like home

  • Comment removed

  • @usernameVEVO C5 weighs ~380k lbs. C17 weighs ~283k lbs.

  • My favorite plane...those engines! Love the sound when they are starting up and when they take off and when they land and when the pilots go home, and its the next day and I hear the c-5a again.

  • Yea no way in hell you can do that with a full load, love that C-5

  • Согласен с @iajapani. - Загрузите С-5 цементом по-окна, и, пускай взлатает. Мы посмотрим, хоть, как у "птичьки" дым из жопы будет... Пусть трудится! А, не развлекает

  • @19NIKOPOL77 WHAT?

  • @Vaportrail69 There Is No. This does not translate.

  • It is a short take off, because it is totally empty.... I would like to see it, carry a full load, and then try a short takeoff.... That would be COOL....

  • Is it true if you can pilot a C-5, you can pilot anything?

  • @TinnInches no its more like if u can pilot a glider u can pilot anything

  • @huibui82 I would say that if you can pilot a Gee Bee Racer, an F-104 Starfighter or the Wright Flyer you can pilot anything. (including a grand piano or a brick!!!)

  • Check out the Antonov 225. Although it's not American, it's still the largest plane in the world. Check it out. I'm sure you will be interested.

  • lol you can almost see it like lag to take off cause it's so heavy. Must be full of tanks. Amazing how something that huge can fly!

  • What a beautiful noise that ship makes!

  • I'm a great fan of the C17 but the C5 is a great aircraft. Its size and grace is something else. Yes it is Americas biggest plane (note... America, the 225 is not American).

  • And I'm proud to be an Americ- oh sorry! :D

  • One of the greatest take off's ever!

  • Good to be the old version with less engine lb then the new RE versions.

But this AC is most certanly not loaded much.

A old heavy C-5 is veryyyy slow at takeoff.

  • And the most unreliable! (take it from a porter)

  • @TCNSmusic

True true.. but that's a good thing when your doing a fuel stop where per diem is very high and its breaks... hard! LOL

  • @KeiYuuki2011 Haha well yeah, but after a while, even soldiers going down range get pissed off that the plane is so broken. I've heard on numerous occasions, "God, I just want to GO!" haha

  • wats bigger?? a C-5 or 747?? fill me in

  • @FastFerrari82

    c5. google it

  • @LoveAviation i think 747 is bigger

  • @ghettoperson257 ever think of a a380 or the an-224 ????

  • @nateextreme0969 those are HUGE OMG!! but actually i think you mean an-225 which is the largest airplane in the world

  • @ghettoperson257 ya sorry thinkin that, typed in differently

  • @FastFerrari82 For payloads and transports there is nothing bigger in the American fleet. The C-5 has a bigger wing span, but with both planes empty the 747-400 weighs a little more. Notice the C-5 wings are attached higher on the fuselage than other aircraft allowing bigger cargo to maneuver under the wings

  • @FastFerrari82 C-5 no doubt...I see them sitting next to each other all the time and a C-5 is slightly bigger than the 747...and way louder...especially at night when I'm trying to sleep, I might add.

  • @BigBearVids how?

  • @LoveAviation It depends on your Definition of Bigger.? The 747-400 is the largest with a max takeoff weight of 910,000lbs. The C-5 mtow is less at 840,000lbs. Then add the 747 Dreamlifter version and its a whole nother ball game. But knowing that, the C5A is Wider , longer and taller, than the - 200. So they're both huge.! except when you park next to the AN-225 .!

  • @jimmywacked noone is talking about capacities here. I think and im sure the rest of the world will confirm that generally when people talk about how big something is they mean in size and relative size compared to something else. FastFerrari82 said "wats bigger??" which to me means "what's bigger??" and that means size not max takeoff weight or min stall speed or max speed. He said whats bigger. Do we need to complicate the obvious?

  • Comment removed

  • @FastFerrari82 The C5 is bigger, holds more volume. The 747 carries more weight.

  • AMERICAN MUSCLE... I mean AMERICAN FEATHERS!!!

  • a passenger version would have been cool

  • @alSation81

LOL not unless they do some heavy sound insulation OR insulation with quieter engines.

  • @LoveAviation

You're not kidding. I live near WPAFB and those mofos are LOUD.

  • @alSation81 it is a passenger plane too. it has 75 seats in the rear troop compartment and the entire cargo compartment can be loaded with palletized seating for 300 more.

  • @ydeman123456 in flight movies or snacks?

  • @ydeman123456 73 seats...36 pallets

  • Obviously, no payload, light fuel load.

  • @blainenay

    most likely that's correct

  • @blainenay

Don't be too sure, most modern military cargo planes incorperate STOL capabilities into their cargo planes. The idea being you don't need a huge runway to land and take off makes them more useful in actual war.

  • @Jesus45U Being over 40 years old, the C5 is hardly a modern design -- even with new engines. The airplane in this video was clearly empty or close to it. (I'm a retired Air Force transport pilot including a bit in the C5.)

  • @Jesus45U

All fair points, and I believe you when you say it's probably not loaded, though the wings droop a fair bit, so might have been fully fueled.

Interestingly enough, cargo planes haven't changed much in the last 50-60 years. Take the old c-130, it's even older than the C-5 and it's still in use. And STOL designs are even older, most of the design is offcourse centered around the wings, obviously, but also addons such as JATO. Heck, you can mount JATO on a C-130.

  • One word....

    AMAZING...

  • airborne in 2800 ft. Wow

  • 27 second rotation short?

  • awesome plane!

  • Those engines look like un-erect dicks, tiny and small compared to the rest of the plane.

  • @Kg277 You're an expert on tiny, flaccid phalluses?

  • whats the rpm of the engines at max?

  • @BoboVicus The rated operating speed of the TF-39 engine is 5000 rpm.

  • that's one big mother transporter

  • god dam i cant wait to join the air force

  • Wauv!! that was a short take off - f**king hell, did not think a plane like that could do so...

  • love that sound

  • LIsten to that choppy buzz-saw only a TF39 engine can produce! Can hear that sound for miles away.

  • empty

  • Loved being a c-5a/b crew chief. Loved doing full power engine runs behind the throttle. Dream to fly in . Bitch of a hydraulic system.

  • kelly?..

  • See those flying in and out of Lackland here in San Antonio.

  • Thanks LoveA... and sorry for my 'way off' thinking it was Sydney, not even the right country, hemisphere.

  • Is that takeoff from the airforce base in Richmond, NSW Australia, (rural suburb of Sydney)? It looks exactly like it and there are regularly US airforce planes comming and going.

  • @bs2502 no. its prestwick

  • There are alot of those here in memphis tn

  • that sounded like a fire truck siren right at the beginning of the video.

  • That thing is empty

  • I flew on one of these, it's enormous

  • Aweso

  • Great footage. Very very impresive, in the air in 20s!

  • Those engines looks small

  • @PhilipDK5800 Trust me, when your close to it. They are enormous.

  • Whaaaouh ! In less than 500 meters O.O

  • damn those engines scream.....i'd like to see this plane with 4 GE 90's

  • Standing ground for a 4 engine power run (95%) = Biggest rush ever.

  • Used to watch these taxi right by me at Mildenhall AFB. Massive jet.

  • c-5 engines= ultimate example of doppler effect

  • Antonov

  • wow.....must be empty...still wow

  • presidents new plane...i think so

  • these plains are specially build for taking of of short runways

  • That thing has got to be completely empty and stripped down. That's crazy short!

  • Sounds like a vacuum cleaner. o.0

  • @thegibsonfromhell

sorry for wasting at least 1 minute and 45 seconds of your life.

  • @LoveAviation You didn't. After about 20 sec I started skipping ahead until I saw something promising, so no worries! =)

  • @thegibsonfromhell

i was being sarcastic. anyone that decides to watch youtube videos has made the choice to waste time as there is nothing better to do anyway.

  • @LoveAviation Not always. There are numerous educational videos. See "googletechtalks" for some prime examples.

  • @LoveAviation TOTALLY

  • @LoveAviation AMEN!! HHAHAHHA

  • @LoveAviation What's this? People being polite on YouTube? Somebody screenshot this!

  • @LoveAviation

Then load information to brain from Flash-Card

  • @LoveAviation ignore him..this is awesome footage of an amazing beautiful aircraft. thank you!

  • @railfanman I know. I could have deleted his comment long time ago if i really wanted to be a dick but i dont care. im happy as long as people find interest in seeing even a small part of the video.

  • @LoveAviation well it's still even nice to hear those engines 1:45 seconds in between..

  • @schmadedaz I agree but people here like to pretend like they have no time and if the title of the video is not 100% what the video is about then they make a big fuss over it.

  • @LoveAviation i guess not everyone can love the sound of a c-5 taxi. i usually call those people heartless people with severe case of lacking taste.

  • @mikey69up video is interesting enough despite people skipping to 1:45 so i don't care. not many offered video responses to show me a better video either.

  • @mikey69up and i call people like you trolls and snobs

  • @trekid54409 little kid you have no idea what a internet troll or snob is. nice try though

  • @mikey69up C-5 Galaxy has a great Engine sound

  • @mikey69up My list goes:

    1. P-47

    2. F2G Super Corsair

    3. B-29

    4. C-17

    5. C-5

  • @LoveAviation You definately didnt waste my time. Thanks for taking the time to post this video. MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!! Shame you can't please everyone.

  • @thegibsonfromhell Why would you wanna skip to 1:45? That whining high pitch turbofan sounds awesome even at idle, i could listen to it all day.

If you skip the vid you are simply not a fan of aviation.

  • the things Fn HUGE!!!!!

  • Jesus, at first i thought the cops were coming for me at the beginning of the vid lol haha

  • that is kool. my uncle is a load master on a C-5 and is currently over sea's :/ but this vid made me smile

  • america! fuck yeah!

  • @DeepestBlueJ

    LOL

  • i lived 1 mile away from an airforce base when the gulf war started when i was a kid, and i got woken up at 3am in the morning to the sound of and counted 40+ c5's taking off one after the other heading for the middle east. such an awesome sound.

  • LMAO .look at the wing @ 1:43 you will see a bird got blown away by the massive thrust of the plane going full throttle.

  • I was a C5 jet mechanic while in the Air Force. The unique high pitched sound of the engines comes from the design characteristics of the inlet cowl.
