  • which album is this off? i only have the last 2

  • @jimmydahat1

Alligator, their third album. There are some MASSIVE tracks on there. (Do you never wear a hat?)

  • @ben151fox thanks! must check it out. i've been known to wear a hat, mostly in winter ;)

  • every single of their song are their best song

  • Comment removed

  • Chorus is sooo modest mousish ! Love it.

  • Nice song, named after a murder victim!

    Thanks...I like it.

  • My sister asked me to be her son's godfather. I accepted but I asked her to choose his middle name. He'll be named 'Abele' (the Italian for 'Abel') after this song.

  • The Strokes - Take It or Leave It anyone?

  • @gogolplex74 Have to disagree. The tempo isn't as fast as that song, this song is way more mellow compared to the strokes song. The only thing is probably the chorus when he's screaming "my minds not right" that is it though.

  • READING FESTIVAL! THE EPICNESS!

  • hey is it my mind is not right or my mind's not a wreck

  • @david9312 my mind is not right

  • 18/02/11 Eindhoven

  • 327800 views. 327000 are mine. :)

  • Reminds me of Joy Division.

  • Fuck me ..what a chorus!!!

  • they named a biblical character after this song!

  • My minds not alright....

  • after many tries i just can't get into them for some reason

  • @leisurelydinner The National - Fake Empire for you to get into them... or bloodbuzz ohio... give it a try?!?!

  • @leisurelydinner thats how i was at first. but after listening to them a bit. i like them now. Mistaken for strangers is a good song. the song that won me over though, the one i really like is Slow Show. my favorite of theirs.

  • Didn't know The National could sound Stroke-ish.

  • ok so i'm new to this band.... and all i've heard from them is AWESOME MUSIC!!!!!

  • Unsung,not enough credit,folks ain't hip.

  • WOW! i can't get enoug of them!

  • My names not Rick. My money's not Rich. My moneys not rich, my money's not ready.

  • @philsnk I though they're shouting "My mind's not alright"

  • I love there sound, its unique.

  • they're a god present. especially because god does not exist.

  • @givemethewall said the clay to the potter.

  • Their sound is incredible. It's so low - even when screaming...love it. Gets into your soul.

  • I really hope High Violet has more rockers like this on it. I loved Boxer as well, but it seemed a bit more one-note than Alligator.

  • Good Tune. Reminds me of Joy Division a bit.

  • apparently there will be some screaming on the new album.

  • nationalhipster is right slipping husband has great screaming but if u want a good National song with screaming check out "Available" from Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers.

  • mesmerizing music with fantastic lyrics to match.the national is the best band of these day and age.

  • Damn straight =]

  • perfeccion

    en la expresion

    de la emocion.

  • @Abelach00 gtfo, spanish scum

  • if you want to hear some wicked screaming by the national, you should listen to the song "Slipping Husband" its only one part, but its fucking great.

  • dear we better get a drink in you before you start to bore us. =P

  • my mind's not right.....

  • this song is unbelievable live, the national are unbelievable, but live they are something else!

  • @conaill505 I totally agree!!

  • SO great. How does this sort of band make such a great scream song? Hat's off as always to their amazingness.

  • Wow. Perfect song.

also a band called Clap your hands say yeah,

and the Walkmen "the Rat" is the best song ever!!!!

  • You are fucking amazing. suggest more songs!!! these are amazing!

  • so tall you take over the streets?

  • This video is so simple, yet so brilliant. Love it.

  • i just love this song. it never gets old. a perfect song. you can read into it 1,000 different ways...

  • still not getting boring.

    simply perfect !! (=

  • suddenly this sounds like Frank Black...lovely song.

  • Can't wait to see them at The Wiltern, August 29th. Anyone else going?

  • Saw them 2 times in Dresden, 02+03 I think.

Very special gigs (no one dancing, everyone sitting, but bursting applause after every single song, standing ovations in the end, people storming the band's CD-sale...) and so's this band.

  • great band.. All the Wine is still their best song..... wish this video had better sound quality!~

  • I'm a perfect peice of ars3

  • lol... oh yeah.. how well are you put together?

  • Like every Californian

  • i wish my name was abel

  • Why? At 2:26 this song gives me so much energy. What a great song.

  • Reminds me a lot of Pixies - Head On for some reason.

  • actually "head on" is not an original pixies song; it's a cover of the jesus and mary chain

  • Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Jesus and Mary Chain's version is great too. They both are amazing bands, but this song really sounds like the Pixies version.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey there, my name's Abel.

  • this song sounds really like the jesus and mary chain

  • one of my favorite songs everrrrrrrrrrr

  • How old is the lead singer?

  • 27 years old

  • 41.

  • I prefer Alligator to Boxer. Its just a personal choice. Both are great albums, but I just like this one more.

  • Comment removed

  • Sound quality does really suck- but their energy still really shows!!!

  • hey guys you're right that song is awesome.

you know maybe some more good indie rock?Well Im not that specialist in that music genre.

    see you.

  • try white lies to lose my life album

  • i love this band so much best band ever!!

  • haha the bassist is balding

  • my names Abel...lol wierd

  • they namd a song after me!!!

  • They named you after a biblical character!

  • They named a biblical character after a song!

  • Prove it.

  • @espanol4oehlerm wow. no one has ever done it before.

  • @TGOC3 lol what :D

  • LMAO i love the replies to this comment.

i also love this song. holy shit.

  • I love the drums on this song! Fake Empire is also real awesome...

  • Alligator is a fucking masterpiece!

  • Agreed.

  • count me in.

Alligator is by far the best.

  • Better than Boxer? I don't know about that.

  • Alligator and Boxer are both on the same level for me, I can listen to both nonstop.

But I think Boxer may be my favorite...I can't decide.

  • You have to listen they first album and you will have the trilogy of they great albums complete

  • what about sad songs...

  • i don't like that to much! but i have to listen it more!

  • no, i meant they have four albums.

  • Their show at lolla was AWESOME.

  • Yeah it was. I was right in the fron and sang every word. One of the best live bands I've ever seen.

  • that guitar part gives me a boner

  • An eargasm?

  • I can't believe im going to see them in 5 days!

    Amazing! <3

  • Matt Berninger has THE voice

having a hard time finding a copy of this album

  • hm. I can't seem to find them in stores,so i bought them on iTunes.

  • or u illegally downloaded it :o lol

  • Lol absolutley not. Cause I got it from my brother. He had it on a cd and gave it to me, I think that means he got it legally ;)

  • i guess youre right .. maybbeee

  • I got Every album legally, trust me ;].

  • damn this was awesome to hear at T. Live there ain't much bands that can come close to these guys.

  • God the National kicks-ass. I love them. Best band ever.

No matter how many times I listen to their songs, they just get better and better.

  • Their songs do just get better and better with every listen!!!! You got to see them D: I'm so jealous!!!!!! :( :( :(

  • Argh I was SUPPOSED to!

My stupid brother got a job someplace else, and he didnt come home till like 8 and they went on at 8:30. By the time we would have gotten there and at least found a place to stand it would beeen late and he needed to get some sleep for work D:<<

Yes. They certainly do get better with each listen, and with each album :D

I'm still furious at my brother for going to see them last year at South Street seaport and he didnt take me. D:

  • totally bad ass!!!

    I love these guys!

  • seriously, this song...i love this band more and more every time i hear them. i can't even remember how i found them, i don't listen to the radio or watch tv, something led me to the lovely lovely national...i like to think fate led me to them. the national and i are very very happy together.

  • how fucking unreal is this song

  • reminds me of the strokes

  • i pictured the singer as a big man

  • I got Alligator when I heard Mr November playing in a music shop on my break at work.

Every album you own is attatched to a memory, even if you don't realise that now. At the time I was going through a very upsetting time and couldn't listen to any albums I owned. All I could listen to was Alligator night after night after night. Of course things improved, but this ironically is hard to listen to now, because it brings back the bad memories from the time.

It made Alliagtor my FAV+ album.

  • *Alligator

  • i bought boxer after i saw the national, modest mouse and REM all in concert today..but after hearing Mr. November, im going to go buy alligator....

    The NAtional = Amazing band...

  • This is my favorite videos of theirs because they are not so subdubed and the frontman moves around instead of standing still holding the mike to his mouth like he usually does.

  • ranggi!!

  • ?my names Abel yeah but..

  • great arsekicking tune. thought these guys were english then found out they were from new york. cool.

  • sounds a little like old Joy Division. Not bad.

  • i saw them live last summer. it was a great concert!!!

  • awesome song, but it sounds different than the cd track

  • They got a lot of different sounds, good stuff!

  • one of the greatest songs

  • ha my names abel

yeah i kno its weird i hate it

i have no idea y my parents picked that name

  • My name is Abel also. I don't think it's weird. Soem ppl think I'm weird but not my name. My math teacher actually think this is the perfect song for me.

  • this song gets me juiced!

  • A great song of a great band !

  • These guys don"t spend money in their videos!

But nevermind the music is so cool..

  • they don't spend money on the videos but the videos are still very very good

  • i love the drummer! he's so creative

  • Respect - Slipping husband rules

  • do i hear the church?

  • Well, I'm a gay. But I looooove them. They're awesomely charismatic IMO. I actually really want to fuck Matt Berninger, the vocalist.

  • To much info dude, not cool

  • hahah...

  • I think he meant it was 'gay' that he doesn't know enough about the band, if you re-read his comment.

  • Hey...can tell by your name in itseelf that you're a The National fan...

    Good for you...

whereas my goofy friend made my youtube name a mix between "House M.D." and Harry Potter. My, my.

  • Then change the name.

  • What is gay about this song?...this song has so much energy in it's chorus I just can't get tired of it...MY MIND'S NOT RIGHT, MY MIND'S NOT RIGHT \o/...besides, the national are pretty well known for writing sort of weird songs, makes them a little different from all the crappy "I love you what can I do" songs with boring rhyme lyrics.

  • it has become a common thing to call "gay" to a song that you dont understand

  • FEMALE?

  • what?

  • Calling a song 'gay' is hardly a valid critique is it.

  • Then why bother validating it with a response?

  • its not pop its indie just so you know

  • I was trying to mock the dude who originally made a "gay" comment about the band. I like The National. They make good rockin' catchy tunes.

  • his mind's not right...

    his mind's not right...

    his mind's not right...

    his mind's not right...

  • o well my name is abel

  • what is homosexual about it?

  • It's ridiculous how good they are.

  • these fellows are great

  • There is nothing wrong with this video. It harkens back to the original days of video when they weren't all some bogus, overdone production. Simple and straightforward with snappy editing. I don't know why folks would complain about this. It's not like these guys are making the kind of money that they can do their version of a November Rain vid anyway. Oh, and the song kicks ass too.

  • Listen to Karen, it's a beautiful song, but its quite weird... well... I don't think its weird... but my favorite bands are the Flaming lips and neutral milk hotel, so my perception is probably fucked up... But according to even some Indie standards, they're pretty strange.

  • The video has no relevance to the song because that's the national's style. Listen to their lyrics. They are an extremely absurd group of men. They are really quite unique. They soung great, and because they've got a baritone voice as the lead in a rock group, they've got an edge. Also, their lyrics are just plain out strange.

  • best song of 2006.

  • 2005 stoopid
