This is a case of a very, very bad temperament. Any dog can have a bad temperament, its unfortunately running rampant now in this breed because its a "fad" breed and idiot breeders are out there breeding for looks with no regard for temperament, which is genetic in a large part. While it IS true that APBTs do show a higher level of animal aggression, HUMAN aggression is an entirely seperate issue entirely and indicates POOR TEMPERAMENT! I jogged with mine all the time and one day I tripped and busted my ass . I fell face first and when I looked up, her face was right there next to mine licking my face and hair . I trained her from the time she was a puppy . I would put my hands in her food and water dishes or block her from her food ,I would grab her and lay her on her side for no reason , I would take her toy away out of her mouth and put it on the floor in front of her . Its not the breed , its the training and the bond .

We used to have a Boston Terrier, and certain things would trigger him to get vicious and attack (play fight, real fight, or spazzing around horribly). And you know what? Boston's are known to be gentle... He was good with us, but certain things sparked that atacking side of him. Perhaps, that trip and fall is what sparked it for the pit.

At the time, our Beware of Dog sign blew off from strong wind, and the guy didn't see our dog and bit a piece of his finger off, but the news called it an attack. They did show the guy bundled up in the ambbulance for his finger though, and made it look like it was soe REALLY horrible scene..

She is a good and trustworthy dog and we totally trust her with our 18 month old child. You just have to have the right breed. It's true that any dog can react in strange ways...BUT the probability of that happening with the Pitbull is much higher. All you need to do is see the stories. No need to mention that when one snaps, the results are horrific.

These dogs are bred to hunt and are extremely efficient. To say these dogs are safe is a joke. The little dogs bred to kill small animals are just as likely to bite but they dont have the ability to kill people or most other dogs so they are "safe(r)". If you have a wild boar problem, this is the dog to get, other wise you are likely to be on the end of a law suit paying damages because this dog is doing what is was bred to do. @priestof1 No, but a pit who lives across the street practically knocks its wooden gate down everytime my friend walks his beagle or any other person walking their dog. the owners claim that thier pit is "friendly". Doesn't look it to me. My friend is terrified. The stance, ears,bark and teeth appear like it is ready for attack, eventhough beagle is quiet and ignores it. Other neighbors have been complaining to. We are afraid that any day that pit will jump over the gate and attack.

@priestof1 Yes, true, when I adopted my sheperd-basenji mix, there were kennels "FULL" of pitbulls. I mentioned this to one of the workers, and he said that it's so sad how many are brought in DAILY, most are surrendered. I was watching animal planet "It's Me or the Dog", and Victoria Stillwell talked sense into a pit owner who wanted to breed his dog. She took him to a local shelter, and showed him the quantity of pits that were in the shelter. Some were going to be euthanized....very sad!

The other meter man (prior one was caught abusing dogs) walked in my back yard, petted my husky, walked out no problems. I saw him one day, told him abut the dog, he already made friends with him. Just a possibility --- you never know. Most dogs do something for a reason, not out of the blue.

And I'm willing to bet that this animal has been shown in the privacy of its home how to "attack" and was responding on instincts. Dogs that bond well with owners nearly almost never attack their owner, this animal may have been left in a room or tied up for the majority of the time. And only walked and feed, making him poorly socialized.
If you Google search the actual image of Vintage Pibulls or what they call " Game breed pitbulls" youll see that they look nothing like we see now a days. alot of them look like small Labradors, with very sleek yet muscular bodies, and if you saw it in person you would say its probably some Lab mix .

As a dog trianer Ive worked with countless breeds and also worked in the K-9 Protection. And I can Assure you that breeding in a dog is phenominaly important. When they are breed properly, issues such as over aggression, poor nerves, over excitement etc etc can be breed against.
Alot of the breeds we see now as "pitbulls" are probably the furthest from a pitbull. It sounds cruel Yes, I know, but they were breed to FIGHT other animals, so their initial breeding criteria were to be 3-40lbs

I am from canada and my father-in law said you could buy a pit puppy on any street corner for 5 bucks 10 years ago. There are more pitbull attacks and I wont argue that there isnt. BUT there are also probably more pitbulls out there than alot of other breeds. They are also owned by irresponsible owners and as others have posted, dogs need to have an alpha male. If you dont like pitbulls, then dont get one!
@jrougoor85 I'm not sure about Canada, but I know in the 90's you could buy Pitbull puppies for about 50 bucks on every street corner in the US. Pitbull attacks are higher in numbers due to irresponsible ownership, backyard breeding and the majority of the people in especially bad area's have the 'I wanna be bad also' syndrome, so they get a pitbull (mostly mixed, but they don't know.) Also most of the Pitbull attacks are by another breed, identified as a Pitbull by media-encouraged prejudice.

Banning them from populated areas along with neutering and muzzling with very heavy fines and jail for violations would likely help save our kids/people.

It's not all pit's that are bad, you need to do some research. A.T.T.S. Temperament Scores show a surprising figure. Most pitbulls that go crazy are just like any other breed that attacks. They are over-bred, inbred , etc. Get one that is registered so you know it is not from fighting stock that was fed gun powder to make them mean, and the dog will be fine.

While it IS true that APBTs do show a higher level of animal aggression, HUMAN aggression is an entirely seperate issue entirely and indicates POOR TEMPERAMENT! We used to have a Boston Terrier, and certain things would trigger him to get vicious and attack (play fight, real fight, or spazzing around horribly). And you know what? Boston's are known to be gentle... He was good with us, but certain things sparked that atacking side of him. Perhaps, that trip and fall is what sparked it for the pit.

These dogs are bred to hunt and are extremely efficient. To say these dogs are safe is a joke. The little dogs bred to kill small animals are just as likely to bite but they dont have the ability to kill people or most other dogs so they are "safe(r)". If you have a wild boar problem, this is the dog to get, other wise you are likely to be on the end of a law suit paying damages because this dog is doing what is was bred to do. I mentioned this to one of the workers, and he said that it's so sad how many are brought in DAILY, most are surrendered. I was watching animal planet "It's Me or the Dog", and Victoria Stillwell talked sense into a pit owner who wanted to breed his dog. She took him to a local shelter, and showed him the quantity of pits that were in the shelter. Some were going to be euthanized....very sad!

The other meter man (prior one was caught abusing dogs) walked in my back yard, petted my husky, walked out no problems. I saw him one day, told him abut the dog, he already made friends with him. And I'm willing to bet that this animal has been shown in the privacy of its home how to "attack" and was responding on instincts. Dogs that bond well with owners nearly almost never attack their owner, this animal may have been left in a room or tied up for the majority of the time. If you Google search the actual image of Vintage Pibulls or what they call " Game breed pitbulls" youll see that they look nothing like we see now a days. alot of them look like small Labradors, with very sleek yet muscular bodies, and if you saw it in person you would say its probably some Lab mix .

One can love the sport of boxing, watch, etc, but for you to Box, you need to learn how to! and for an animal to attack repeatedly hold on and continue to push forward with the attack, this isnt natural instincts of for a dog to hunt humans, its mealy doing what it was shown to do. As a dog trianer Ive worked with countless breeds and also worked in the K-9 Protection. And I can Assure you that breeding in a dog is phenominaly important. When they are breed properly, issues such as over aggression, poor nerves, over excitement etc etc can be breed against.
Alot of the breeds we see now as "pitbulls" are probably the furthest from a pitbull. It sounds cruel Yes, I know, but they were breed to FIGHT other animals, so their initial breeding criteria were to be 3-40lbs

look up the "Old English Bulldog" & "English White Terrier".

I don't blame the dog. It was scared. I live just over the Ohio river from Cincinnati and the news people here just hate pit bulls. I love pit bulls. I remeber that story on the news. Thats only 1 part you heard. The other part was that the dog wouldn't move and she kept pulling him and kicking him to get him to move and he when off. I don't blame the dog.

I am from canada and my father-in law said you could buy a pit puppy on any street corner for 5 bucks 10 years ago. There are more pitbull attacks and I wont argue that there isnt. BUT there are also probably more pitbulls out there than alot of other breeds. They are also owned by irresponsible owners and as others have posted, dogs need to have an alpha male. If you dont like pitbulls, then dont get one!

@jrougoor85 I'm not sure about Canada, but I know in the 90's you could buy Pitbull puppies for about 50 bucks on every street corner in the US. Pitbull attacks are higher in numbers due to irresponsible ownership, backyard breeding and the majority of the people in especially bad area's have the 'I wanna be bad also' syndrome, so they get a pitbull (mostly mixed, but they don't know.) Also most of the Pitbull attacks are by another breed, identified as a Pitbull by media-encouraged prejudice.

Dogs have a pack mentality, a strong willed & powerful dog needs a master who can control him, the master must have a strong personality and be the alpha in the relationship.

Furthermore, the dog should be trained properly from a young age to not be vicious for the sake of viciousness (yes, some idiots force this behavior on their animals)..

Proper training and a strong personality to be the pack leader is necessary, most females don't make a good pack leader & this one paid the price.

There's big $ in breeding and selling pit bulls.Powerful lobbyists fight against legislation to make kids/people safer from them.The cussing and name calling by some posts by owners when disagreed with make you wonder about the types drawn to pits. Most studies show pit bulls rank no. 1 in attacks causing death and SERIOUS injury. Banning them from populated areas along with neutering and muzzling with very heavy fines and jail for violations would likely help save our kids/people.

Exactly!! Every story we hear about a pitbull attack is from some asshole saying "never thought he'd attack" .. Its people that dont have the brains to own any dog. I have one and I love him, hes not aggressive at all, but like any dog, I know anything could happen, so the solution is simple, dont put your dog or family in a stupid situation. I wish the owners of the dogs that attack were held more responsible cause it makes good owners and good dogs look bad.

pitbulls are the most dangerous breed around, & im glad they are banned for life over here, they are far too unpredictable more than other breeds. thats y they get a bad response. & like they say its to do with the owners but i say its in their genes & that breed has a lot of bad genes even attacking their own owners, so go figure.

It's not all pit's that are bad, you need to do some research. A.T.T.S. Temperament Scores show a surprising figure. Most pitbulls that go crazy are just like any other breed that attacks. They are over-bred, inbred , etc. Get one that is registered so you know it is not from fighting stock that was fed gun powder to make them mean, and the dog will be fine.
