  • that isnt a caboose but a jordan spreader used for snow removal on stevens pass or stampede pass

  • This is the first time I've seen anything aside from a steam loco moving along this particular stretch. I'm used to the 4449 and the 700 through here.

  • Nevermond. After taking a closer look, I can see clearly that you all are right. That is indeed a snowplow!

  • ACCEPT MY VIDEO RESPONSE PLEASE! LOVE YOUR VIDS!

  • Thats not a caboose. IT"S A SNOWPLOW!!! They still had all of the comforts of a caboose though.

  • Its not a caboose, its a snowdozer, an old Great Northern RR snow plow.

  • wow caboose a rare thing today. Great catch.

  • I saw BNSF 1007 in my area at White Rock beach, BC

  • Railroads got rid of them in the mid 1980's and replaced them with freds so they could screw the railroad unions. It was cheaper.

  • @TylerTheGreat1996 Acutally, it was for the "conductor" to "conduct" business. Watch the discovery channels video about railroads; it where I learned it from. The customer (a farmer, a carmaker, a salt mine operator, ect.) used to come aboard the caboose to have coffee, and pay for the freight. The conductor was the money man, and customer service representative, and would entertain upon the caboose. It was real good for business.

  • Great video. It is quite rare to see a caboose now a days.

  • Please accept my video response, try to get enough views for the Partnership Program.

  • is I-84 next to you?

  • That "caboose" is actually an old Great Northern spreader, home-built in St. Cloud, Minnesota. It has a very distinctive cupola on it that is identical to a series of cabooses the GN built. We called them "Volkswagens" because they had a sort-of rounded appearance on top. I had no idea this spreader was still around. Thanks for the video!

  • @TylerTheGreat1996 It was for the crew somewhere they could eat and sleep

  • Please accept my video response of a NS High Hood with a Caboose!

  • I see you have one guy being a smartass.. What country is this in? You know damn well!

  • What country does this take place in?

  • @Cacowninja USA

  • They locked all the boxcars so 3 hobos couldn't get in. HA!

  • nice video and such a wonderful location....and love the graffiti on some of the rail cars....

  • @angkatanpw Thanks

  • so cool

  • Why did it have it?

  • I am sure someone has asked you this but what kind of camera are you using (brand and model number)? What a great video!

  • @ginty777 Thanks, a Canon Vixia HG20

  • Bring the cabooses back!!!!

  • @mpalm1990 Railroading hasnt been the same since 1985 when most cabooses began disappearing. Some lines they were gone by 1983.

  • wow a caboose!!!!

  • This is great ! Keep up the good work ! Thank's !

  • Wow nice catch! You don't see cabooses on trains now days, its kinda sad...

  • Ah, ervans, what a nice suprise for you, and what a great treat for me to see both!

  • Whatever happned to the Caboose I miss them.

  • @uh0oo= They were replaced with FRED. Flashing Rear End Device. You can see one on the caboose itself.

  • @vigo894 Smash the fred's bring back those beatiful cabooses. Besides you cant have Coffee in a fred!!!

  • @meguell3= Amen brother

  • im guessing you live in Oregon being how alot of your videos are from there.

  • Great video ! 5*****

  • @morfeusz120 Thanks

  • Fantastic!

  • @LSZocker2009 Thank you

  • A caboose? Was this shot in 2009? Wow.

  • It's not a caboose, it's a Jordan Spreader. You can see the plows on the front and side when it passes by. Very similar visually to a caboose, though (what with the cupola and end deck and all).

  • @weekendrailroader you beat me to it by 3 months. lol

  • @delamaize You can Google it, but like I said below it doesn't look like any Jordon Spreaders I can find. Send me a link to one

  • @ervans I'll see what I can find, it may not be a jordon spreader, but it is some type of spreader, the wings folded up on the side, are a give away. I'll PM you a link when I find something.

  • @ervans @ervans on a second look, I think the spreader was on the right track, you are right it isn't a jordan spreader, it is one of BNSF's "Snow dozers" Specificly No. 972810. Judging by the nice paint, and lack of propane tank on the roof, I would say it has been rebuilt recently. I'll PM you links to a few photos that I found since Youtube is not letting me post it here.

  • This is wonderful. Frieght trains just aren't the same these days without a caboose.

  • dont see a caboose anymore lol

  • Wonderful video! Trains and the great outdoors.......great combination! Thanks for sharing.

  • Just be careful ervans at least two people get hit by trains every year over here. The wind blows in your ears and you can't hear them coming.

  • Wow, now thats stranger. A caboose at the end. How often does that happen these days?

  • Do those tracks go right into another tunnel? That looks like a great spot there!

  • wow that area needs to be in a model train layout

  • great seeing the caboose again

  • I like it!

  • nice video

  • They put FRED on a caboose. WTF. OK WHY then. Great video.

  • Looks like the Russell snow plows that i have seen here in Michigan but I know its not a russell!

  • @dirtydan38 Nope, just a flanger.

  • Seen a similar device in the movie Switchback at the end during the train fight scene between Quaid & Glover.

  • That is not a caboose it is a jordan spreader or snow plow. that is why the train is going slow it is restricted to 30 or35mph

  • Love the end of the train. Very few and far between.

  • Thanks

  • @ervans heey ervans what would the caboose be used for

  • I see FRED

  • dude!! this area is so scenic! it's like a desktop background. Where is this??? excellent video 10/5!!!

  • Thanks, Washington state

  • Great Shot 5/5

  • Thanks

  • Didn't think that railroads used cabooses any more.

  • Some viewers say it a Jordon Speader

  • That wasn't a caboose, that was MRL's Jordon Speader.

  • It doesn't look like any Jordon Speaders I can find.

  • I don't know much about trains so let me ask the obvious question *grins*. Whats a Jordon Spreader?

  • You can Google it, but like I said above it doesn't look like any Jordon Spreaders I can find.

  • Great vid. My sons is crazy about trains. What kind of camera are you using. The picture quality is very good.

  • Thanks, a Canon Vixia HG20

  • Thanks

  • lush pic-but it looks like a few sleepers were dancing

  • does that caboose have snow plows hanging on the side?

  • Yes, I think so

  • Magnificent Caboose

i was wondering, what kind of camera do you use.

i have a little digital camera i use for now,and wanna upgrade later on.

  • Thanks, a Canon Vixia HG20

  • Nice to see the Cab in use. great location to video

  • Thanks Walter

  • You don't see too many H1's anymore and the caboose is a bonus!

  • Seeing a caboose is VERY unusual!

Not only that, I recognize that type of caboose from a Hollywood movie I saw, where it is used for clearing snow.

That was a GREAT video, with very sharp, clear picture resolution.

  • Thanks for your comments

  • a caboose?

  • Awesome manifest

  • awesome

  • Thanks

  • very crisp, clear quality. love that.

  • Thanks

  • Thanks, now that is how a train should look like with a caboose on the end. :)

  • Sweet!

  • Excellent video***** Great catch of the Jordan Spreader.

  • Thanks

  • It appears that they modified the caboose by adding wings to the side of it thus making it a "spreader" used for snow removal and "ditching", the removal of weeds and dirt from the right-of-way

  • This is your first BNSF video right? Great angle location and train! 5/5

  • Thanks, I think I have four maybe five BNSF video

  • Ok- Thanks. That caboose looked like it might've been built for fighting snow?

  • That's a Jordan Spreader.

  • Nice angle!!!!!! BNSF all the way!!!!!!

  • Thanks

  • Nice video! Were you able to tell if someone was in the caboose or no?

  • Thanks, It went by to fast to tell
