@Rossalloyd2003 Love your taste in soulful music. I also rate Gary Benson - Dont throw it all away, and Clifford T Ward - Homethoughts - alongside these.
I'm a straight guy but Cliff was a good looking fella back then. Shame he never married and had kids. He wasted that part of his life in my view. He'd have been a great husband and father...
I've never heard this before and i've no idea how i found myself here, but i'm glad i have. I'm not a Cliff Richard fan but i can fully relate to this song :/
Originals are always better than covers - although Wet Wet Wet did a better version of the Troggs song but maybe because I've got a crackly version of the Troggs - Love Is All Around. Sorry Troggs No distrespect.
Will people stop saying that Westlife's version is better, it is not, they ruined it, Cliff sings it with a lot more emotion and feeling, Westlife looked and sounded terrible. I'm sorry if you disagree but it is just a fact. Also I am more of a Westlife fan than a Cliff fan so I am not being biased.
Cliff's version is in a class of it's own. Other's may try to better this performance but fall well short. Cliff is pure class, nothing around today to get anywhere near.
This song for me is predominantly about it's beautiful lyrics. If the focus starts with them and the music is secondary it's incredible. Personally I feel the melody and choice of main instrument (piano) in this case is what makes the song a true winner. I appreciate Westlife as a 'boy band' and the song in their case has been arranged that way. It's good, however loses the sentiment depth of it's original Cliff version. Same goes for Westlife's version of Mandy by Barry Manilow. JMHO
@sharabang06 100% Right, Westlife are not bad singers they just get badly arranged songs to sing. There is no such thing as a bad song, just a song sung badly ( I'm looking at you Bieber ). Have you checked out Barry Manilow's version of ' If Tomorrow Never Comes ' ? Blows Ronan out of the water. Peace.
@1305alz westliffe can go fuck themselves , do you think they will be around in 40 years time , unlike cliff and many other good talented singers , no , westliffe can barely sell a song at the moment , are they even still around , that proves a point , . shit ...thats what they are , crap ..
@chris185821 Chris I agree with you that Westlife have no longevity in this business, but they have had some success ( not much lately as you said ), and talent like Cliff and the like will outlast many if not all of todays singers and groups. Incidently I have met Cliff a couple of times ( he shops in the same Tescos as me ) and he is a very nice and humble man. Peace.
@1305alz sorry to go into one , but i lost my dad last christmas , and this remind me of him , i do think though , anyone who does a cover version of any song , is never going to be as good as the original , today it seems the record company want to make money and do not care about the singers , simon cowell especially , i like true talent , i was born in 1969 , but was played music from 1930s onwards , i had parents with good taste , it just makes me angry when real talent , has hard luck .
@chris185821 No probs Chris, and sorry for the loss of your Dad. It just goes to show the power of a good song sung well, and Cliff does this song great justice. As you say true talent cannot be manufactured and it shows in a lot of todays ' artists ' ( Again I'm looking at you Bieber ) At least we can appreciate good music when we hear it. Peace
amg why did Westlife cover it? im not being funny but the intro sounds nothing alike and wen i listen to this i actually feel something i feel like crying wen i listen to Westlifes cover all i feel is boredom, this song is more sweeter and more melody like Cliff Richard is one of the best, this song reminds me of my mothers friend and its a dear song to me<3x

Each to pur own.My Friend,I remember this original in 1976,When I was 16,
When Westlife did it,They played to a new Generation of Fans,
I am not a Cliff,or Westlife Fan,But you have to remember there is 30+ years between the tracks.
