@Gibbyboy14 Sure--and the Israelites were a pack of nice guys. Nothing makes me want to sing like some vengeful baby head bashing. La la la la lalala---B----A---A---A---S---H, waahhh, not dead yet?---then B----A---A---A---S---H. Gee the innocent, helpless infants brains are splattered all over--now that's justice.
@sweetsweatyfeet Did I say anywhere that the Israelites were a bunch of nice guys? Stop putting words in my mouth. The Pre-Christ Judean people lived by the principle 'An Eye for An Eye". You may have heard it before. So yes, they would have desired revenge. And a better translation of that word would probably be blessed, or something similar. Not happy in the sense of singing some little ditty about your best friends and you getting drunk one night and having so much fun.
@sweetsweatyfeet And honestly, think about it! If someone killed your children, and all of the children of all your friends, chances are you would be angry at that person, wouldn't you? They didn't have a justice system like we do in modern western culture. You didn't go to court and put the person in jail for 25 years for killing people. They lived in a different culture and time.
@Gibbyboy14 There is no defense for brutally murdering babies---EVER. The Israelites were themselves a band of raping, genocidal marauders and as much savages as any that existed. Calling a neighboring tribe your enemy never justifies infanticide. And celebrating sickening atrocities through song is particularly fucked up---but hey that's just me.
@adamnorten Nope, it's the Jews singing about the year that the Babylonian Empire conquered Israel around 500BC and took them away from their home land in to captivity in what is now modern Iraq (Ancient Babylon). It's about those people remembering their home, Zion, Jerusalem, and weeping, longing to return and be free to worship their God/ Elohim, in Israel.
Well all the unbelievers aside this song is really sad. After being removed from ones land and than oppressed is sad I can feel their pain. We are a whole and if one part is sick than the whole body is sick. So may the Lord help the sick. So lose not hope and remember God will not forget Jerusalem his people wherever they are he shall prosper them.
It doesnt say that, it says happy shall he be that taketh and taseth the little EDOMITE(soc called white man) babies against the stones, you faggots are gonna be destroyed for altering the word of the Lord, the Lord is gonna alter yall with a missile
@doubleaamazin Lol where did you get that edomites were white? And they say blessed is he who destroys their progeny. Meaning destroys their offspring or that which they gave birth to do their evil bidding. I'm pretty sure the hebrew implies that meaning anything evil they gave birth too will be destroyed. Thus joy will come and weeping will fade.
the reason he sayes that is because of the things that babylon did to them throughout there existence and there captivity not to mention this is a psalm that a jew wrote a long time ago by the way have you considered that it might mean more than just offspring
I fail to see how what he commented wasn't good. He simply observed that they didn't include the last verse of Psalm 137 in the song. Whether it's a pleasant thought or not, that verse is part of the Bible. I'm actually thankful that fivesecondsonly brought this to my attention as I hadn't noticed that they'd left it out before...
Thank you. This is a good song and i was in no way saying otherwise. This is my favorite Psalm. I know my Bible; the part where they bash the kids on the rock has good scriptural implications. You would have to sit through a long lecture in order to understand the significance of that line.
He says, "blessed is he who destroys your progeny" This is a very thoughtful way of saying, "Happy is the one who smashes your babies heads upon the rocks." Check out the Sons of Korah website and you'll get a full explanation of why they chose "progeny."
@desperadovampire1 idk there is a song book for other cds on there website
"Scored for vocals, guitar and some piano parts. Music for 'Holy Holy' and Psalms 45, 56, 116, 93, 15, 103, 117, 121, 24, 32, 148, 126, 35, 1, 37, 127, 51, 69, 95, 147b, 80 and 17" but this song is on thier cd Redemption Songs (2000)
And yet you don't appear bothered by the fact that over 50 million babies have been exterminated while still in the womb. Odd...

"Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks."
Nothing like a little baby killing to make one feel good about their tribe.

@sweetsweatyfeet The Babylonians did that to Israel when they overran the country. The psalm is saying happy will the one be who repays their evil.
