What a great video! This is what it's all about! I can't wait to start teaching my son to fly, he's a bit too young right now at a year and a half, yet already he is pointing out airplanes on final near KORD where we live.
@incheon Never too young! My first flight was with my grandpa at Olson's field west of Elgin. I was probably 4-5 years old. It was in an open cockpit Fairchild 24. I remember being scared when he pointed the airplane straight down. I think he probably went upside down too because I remember wondering if the seat belt was going to keep me in the airplane. LOL. I've probably flown over your house... I work out of ORD these days, my office is the cockpit of a silver MD80.
@incheon Oh I love the "Silver MD80", me myself am in a Blue and white 737NG. You know now you have me thinking to start him at two years old lol. I will surely make a video and share it with you. Once again loved the video!
See thats something that only General Aviation is best at (I think). Its the ability to really connect, not just sitting together and watching TV or eating dinner, Its something thats more than that.
Thanks Jeff, me and my Lovely Luscombe are really in the just getting to know you phase. She's a wonderful teacher and becoming a fond friend but until I pull that mixture, I still watch her like a hawk.
Beautiful. When Eric is 40 years old those memories will be more precious than gold. A wonderful & good time was had by all. Such times it's great to be a kid (in the opinion of this 70 year old "kid").
That is a really lovely video. I wish I had a Grandad that flew (he let me steer his big ford around the yard). I laughed when I saw that first still photo at the end of the flight - your son looks like he was having a real "there I was..." moment.
Thank you. It's been a couple years since we did this video. I'd like to do another one soon. I tip my hat to you, my friend. I checked out your videos, and I see you're a Luscombe driver. That's some "real" flying. Take care ~ Jeff
Very nice video, I'm looking to buy a pacer, this video almost made me cry, such a wonderful thing to see an elder showing the younger kids the ways and old lore of aviation from a grass strip in an fabric covered Piper. Great Video!!
Thanks for the compliment Kevin. Out of all the video's I've done, this is my favorite, and it made me cry while I made it. It features my son Erik, and his Grandpa flying from a private strip near Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The same strip that Erik's grandpa taught me to fly 23 years ago.
As a grandfather, I can relate. Makes me wish I was still current. I use to have a Commonwealth Skyranger 185 and would take the kids for rides when they were your grandson's age. He will never forget your time together. Happy flying!!!
