I lived 150 feet from a busy RR track in the summer of 1990 and slept with the window open to save on my utility bills. The locomotive horns woke me up twice a night. For about the first 3 or 4 seconds each time, I thought it was Gabriel's horn announcing the rapture. By the end of the summer I wasn't a Baptist any more.
that's exactly how i felt when i was yonger! looking back now, i can laugh at my fear, but at the time it really was traumatizing to have this constant fear that i was gonna be left behind.
Very clever! I don't have to worry about marrying up, etc. I am glad that by the sacrifice of Jesus and my acceptance by Him that I will be accepted in heaven with open arms. Yes, He does have control of things, and we may never figure out what view of the end times is correct. Still Revelation promises a blessing for reading it.
This was a song to set up a teaching segment that would immediately follow. It is masterfully done to get people to think about what they really believe and what is truth. It engages people intellectually, spirituall, and emotionally. I would say that all those who were at that service were more ready to hear what the pastor would say after this song. Very well done Mr. Bonifield!
This song is hilarious. Not only is it well written, and well performed, it is a great work of satire to get people to think. I would dare say that there are thousands of folks who don't even know that the "Left Behind" "Rapture" view of Revelation is not a historical doctrine of the Christian faith. Thanks for sharing your talent
I have to agree Dawnlina. That's why it's so important to read the Bible for yourself. I grew up in church and was traumatized by those movies (always worried when mom and dad got home late - thought I'd messed up and missed the rapture). The truth is Jesus is coming back but for believers it is a joyous thing not a fear thing... although I do wish the video would have gone on to explain the truth and help clear up these fallacies.
I'm not sure what to make of this... It's extremely creative and funny, and I like that. And yet I can't help thinking that it almost seems to mock the concept of the rapture... I mean, the "two men walking up a hill" thing is something Jesus Christ said, not Larry Norman, right? Or maybe Jesus said they were "out in a field" or something like that, but same idea... I'd love to hear you actually do the Larry Norman song for real, I bet it would sound awesome - you have a great sound.
This looked to me like an attempt to be funny but also have a serious message to it... problem is, all the music itself is somber and "moving" - doesn't fit ANY of the humorous lyrics at all. So, it's not a "funny song" by any means, it's a SERIOUS song with a message that tries to bring humor into it. Can't say I liked it at all, but the writer was very creative - and I can identify with those movies from the 70s...
It's supposed to sound somber and pensive, while the lyrics make a little lighthearted fun of our complete lack of understanding as human beings. It is kind of like those "Deep Thoughts" moments on SNL.
2Pe 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the creation.
Love it! brings back memories of watching those old films at the Salvation Army church! Cool to find you on youtube Randy! long time green valley camp/CMI camper. Michael D Koehler
First, as a long-time church pianist, I have to say the piano playing is GREAT! Funny all by itself. But man ... the lyrics sure do ring some bells too. I've had to come to the conclusion (after my fair share of that exact video) that if He wanted us to know exactly what the plan was, He would have told us exactly what the plan was. And since He didn't ... maybe He just wants us to trust Him.
Hey People, what a funny and wonderful, tongue in cheek song about the rapture. If this song offends anyone it is only because they take everthing too serious. I thought it was well done and polite to the subject matter.
This was awesome! People commenting who don't think it's funny probably don't believe in long hair or think playing cards will get you left behind. ... Those kind of scare tactics poked fun at in this song never bring lasting change or real commitment in people's lives, which is what true followers of Jesus understand as the end game, not getting fire proofed! :)
This is both funny and sad. Sad because this unorthodox teaching has made a place in the minds of ignorant Christians. Funny because deserves to be laughed at. When the real coming of Jesus Christ happens, there will be rejoicing and tears.
The Rapture is real. Jesus IS coming to take His church home. Christians should not lighten up or laugh at this. We should be protesting it's un-truthfullness and mockery. I'm disappointed in this guy.
Oh, lighten up. Just about everyone in the church world knows that a) most of the rapture movies are pretty cheesy and b) fear-based evangelism (which those movies employed) is not very effective. Finally, series like LEFT BEHIND and A Thief in the Night are not accurate representations of the book of Revelation and they make ALOT of assumptions. I agree with the video, those movies scared me more than they did encourage me in the faith.
Great song. It's set in a humorous way, but it's a serious message nonetheless. If you're stuck in a rapture fearing church, give some serious thought to some of the tripe you've been fed over the years.
pretty funny. i saw all those movies & i loved the references to larry normans "i wish we'd all been ready" love that guy! futerist theams still remind me of my youth even though now i know the "rapture' is unscriptural....its still fun theater
Hi Randy...your mom sent me this link.. i love this song..its so hilarious...i miss your sense of humor.. tell everyone i said hi.. and hope all is going well with everyone..take care.. Jennifer (dorton) Shuman
LOL this is hysterical. All in great fun. Great job. VERY creative. Neat parody. Sorta Weird Al-like! LOL We Christians need to totally LIGHTEN UP MORE OFTEN like this!!! LOVE IT!!!
i dont get it... i saw the Left Behind movies, too. yes, they were scary, but they were the brutal truth. as much as we hate to look at it that way. now having a 6 yr old watch that is another story...
Is this a sermon intro? This is out there for alot of people to see...a great opportunity to tell what will happen when Christ returns. I laughed because I've saw A Thief in the Night, but I'm sad that you didn't take the opportunity to tell the truth as presented in God's Word.
So glad to know I wasn't the only one terrorized by these movies!!! And I was just a wee bit older than you at the time. Miss you guys tremendously...especially hearing your music ministry.
RANDY, I LOVE YOU,MAN! I was so mad that I missed it. I was on that Veggie Tales Mission in Olathe. =) Cara came home and told me about it and I hoped I would get to see it! You Rock!
Randy, this is a real gift to those of us who forget not to take ourselves too seriously in spite of the serious wonders of our faith. Thank you for your faith and the marvelous worship team you lead that knows where to draw that fine line on irreverent fun and get your toes so close we can't help but ache from our belly laughs. It enriches our knowledge of the bigness of God that he sends us gifts like you to make sure we enjoy this faith-life we live together.chip
I'm so thrilled to have a means of sharing this with others who know you, Randy. This continued to bring a smile to my face hours and days after you presented it to our congregation. I love benefiting from your creativity and gifts every Sunday. You are appreciated.
Wow! This is the best thing EVER. The first step in recovering from a little "problem" is admitting you have one. May your trauma decrease now that you've put it all out there! Thanks for the great laugh. Katy McKenna Raymond

This is really good. I went through the same feelings as a little kid after watching Left Behind. I had nightmares for weeks. xP
Now that I'm older though, it's a new kind of scary, yet it's exciting at the same time. Does that make any sense?
