When the episode was repeated for the final time on the network [September 3, 1977], the "regular" closing credits [1:23] replaced it- right into syndication and into the present day.
I am so glad this has been posted on Youtube because i like many have the dvd which advertises the final curtain call...yet it isnt on there.I had all 7 series shipped to England because this is one of the best sit-coms of them all with so many great individual characters.Sadly they dont make television like this anymore.
@CatboxDesign Yeah, back about '96 or '97 TV Land was still good and showed this as well as many other great classic shows. I was a post grad and the incoming freshmen loved these shows, only seeing them for the first time. There were many converts to MTM and Dick Van Dyke show, Get Smart, Mannix, Barney Miller, etc. Now, they can't see those on TV anymore. Sad.
I read that Mary Tyler Moore wanted to end the series before the ratings dropped ... while everyone was still at the top of their game ... writers, producers, actors, etc. I've seen many episodes on dvd and I think it's one of the best series ever. Much better than most situation comedies on the air today. Thanks for posting the final curtain call, I never saw this before.
@Chuck1974 Actually, that's not true. It was the writers who decided to end. Mary has said recently (on Mark Simone's show in NYC) that she would've loved to have gone a couple more years. Sadly, the writers never, in my opinion, matched the greatness of this show with the chemistry of the players so well defined. So, we'll never know for sure, but I think they should've continued a bit more.
Wow, I remember this when it first aired, so much had been written about leading to the last show. And I remember seeing the final curtain call. I don't remember ever seeing it again. I don't think they've played it when it was in syndicated reruns. I don't think I remember seeing it even on TVLand.
Wow -- nearly 35 years later, and still just as touching. It's now the second best closing ever (after the classic Newhart finale), but its sincerity and class have never been matched.
Was quite sure I remembered seeing this in '77. Now I know that I did, although I don't remember Mary announcing the actors. It was just the bows - at least by our local affiliate. Amazing to see it again.
Thanks for posting this!! I just got the Season 7 set on DVD, and, despite the box's boast that the final curtain call on "The Last Show" is included, it's not appearing on my edition. I just made the discovery Fox has recognized its mistake on some (but not all ) editions of Season 7 and is sending out replacement discs. I was so eager to see it and am glad somebody posted it here.
@kljMN2 Incidentally, I might be mistaken but I believe this is the only "MTM" episode in which *all* of the show's principal cast from throughout its run (including Valerie, Cloris, Betty White, and Georgia Engel) appear.
@kljMN2 ---I agree : ) but if you notice all the male actors get a big "yea!!!" from I think Jim Brooks but the women don't get it and that always annoys me.....lol...silly point perhaps but it does annoy me!! LOL
@SHRINA17 I wonder if they get the big "yea!" not so much because they were all the male actors, but rather because those three were with the show from start to finish--unlike Betty, Georgia, Valerie, and Cloris, who were there for part of the show's history, but not the whole way. I think he's just giving those actors that little extra acknowledgement. Just a guess.
Great clip. I lived and breathed this show back in the 70's, Saturday nights on CBS. It's out on DVD now and worth getting. Ted Knight and Valerie Harper were my favorites but I was so in love with Mary.
is this part on DVD now?? I know there was a lot of complaining because it was NOT at first!

I believe that is Mary's real dad at 0:30 .... he stands up and claps as the camera pans the audience.
She said in a recent New York Times interview that he was in the first row, tall with white hair.
She said her parents attended all of the MTM shows and the Dick Van Dyke shows as well.

I love the beautiful arrangement that Patrick Williams does of Sonny Curtis'
song for the end credits. the horn player holds that last note for 7 BARS - Awesome !!!
