  • 4.32 LOOK AT THAT AT SLOW MOTION SORRY FOR MY ENGLISCH

  • Ive noticed that most marble/wrinkle effects are done with silver on black then with the candy spray. My van is red and id like to do a lava effect.... (Her name is Lava... :D).....So would I spray black on it instead then use the plastic...then spray a red candy over it.....clear coat then wet-sand etc?

    Thank you...

  • @ladyowned In order for the effect to look right you need to use two contrasting colors. I suggest that you do several test panels to get the correct color combination that you are looking for.

  • love the look u gave the cameraman at 1:14. hilarious!

  • is it necessary to wear glasses while spray painting? or it doesnt matter since the toxins will go through the glasses regardless? i know a mask is required.

  • @llViperStrikerll Yes it is,do I no.

  • 1:14 what is that paper called

  • @promobile123987 Transfer paper from coastairbrush(dot)com

  • Hi Ed.What is that paper called. Is it a low tack paper.Im over using newspaper, and that just looks so much easier.Your help will be much appreciated.

  • Ed, I have watched almost all of your videos in these past 3 days. They are awesome! I've become a big fan. I have a quick question (and will have many more in the future), what is the closest, as in thickness and rigidness, material to the plastic you are using in the video? Thanks!

  • @SlightlyCracked15 Yes I am making more video's. Plastic?

  • what do you mean by wicked colors? i didn´t get it , so can i use normal water based colors on air brush? here in brasil they sell liquid pigments so i add it on white water based, can i use it on air brush? cheers for the quick answer...

  • @jpcarmen Check out coastairbrush(dot)com

  • sorry its me again, how do you call that big masking tape? im buying my tools from overseas as i don´t know where to find it in brazil, so ill buy it on ebay.. cheers, also , can i use water based paint , very fine, on air brush? i think thats it.. thanks

  • @jpcarmen 3M fine line Tape-yes use Wicked Colors.

  • can i trow a clear coat on top of it when its done? thanks for those tips, i didn´t start doing it but very close to... as a hobby.. thanks again ed. from Queres

  • @jpcarmen Yes you can.

  • what tipe of tape is that the detailed one you used for the flames

  • what tipe of tape is that

  • @number1airsoftsniper 1/8 inch 3m blue fine line.

  • This is absolutely amazing in its utter simplicity!

  • @DanR67 Ya it kinda blew me away when I first did it.

  • can you buy candy paint, or can you make it by yourself ???

  • @TMbuildchanel You can make some thing similar to candy.

  • Learned more in one of your videos, than a dozen others. Thank You

  • @homskoult Your very welcome.

  • That guy was lucky being dismissed. I worked in a shop where, if you woke up outback, you were dismissed. If you woke up in the hospital, you were FIRED!

  • @homskoult LOL

  • NICE

  • how would i go about doing this to a whole truck? individual panels or try and do a whole side?

  • @jimbrewer18 Get a couple guys to help you and do the whole side.

  • hey i was wondering if i was to do this on a car do i need to wet sand the silver first or wait until i put candy paint on it, im new at this any advice

  • @rogeris2fly After the Kandy

  • @edhubbs oh okay thanks oh yeah with what kind of grit should i use i was thinking 1000 and i think your videos are simply amazing

  • @rogeris2fly Yes that would work

  • oh okay thanks man

  • Ed - Great job - love the tutorial and the music - amazing talent!

btw-what is the name of the song?

  • @Kaulana1001 I don't know the name of the song.

  • HATE the "music" but this is one of the best instructional videos for ANYTHING i've ever seen as you don't skip over anything and explain all of the dos & don't's. i'm already familiar with this tech, but still learned a couple good tips from it and will learn a lot from the rest of your videos i'm sure if the heavy metal doesn't drive me nuts 1st.

the dabbing touch-up tech you used was like a reversed version of sponge painting. if you tried this with sponges, i bet you'd get cool textures

  • @djgambitron OOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKK

I have tried and did tons of different textures using a multitude of different products.Just haven't posted them on youtube.

  • @edhubbs

well at least you're not going to run out of material to make videos with then.

  • @djgambitron Nope.

  • Heya, you say that the Candy paint is a dye similar to a sheet of transparent cellophane I'm guessing but paint?

Also is the Candy available in a spray paint can? A friend and I wish to test it on an old plastic to see what effects we can achieve. Thanks in advance, I think I have watched about 60% of your vids in succession lol :)

  • @kalamaloo Sorry man I don't use rattle can's so I really do not know the answer to your question.

  • hi guys what is candy paint?? is it normal metalic??

and what paint system do u use 2pack or water based???

    thanks london england

  • @yamaha122623 Candy is a transparent dye.

  • after you put the blue tape on, you put a white paper or tape on the hood. What is the name of that.

  • @casterdell94 Transfer paper from coastairbrush(dot)com

  • @clive573 After it drys do not touch it just apply a couple of coats of a catalyzed clear coat.

  • could this be done with a white base coat? would it have a different effect or just look plain crappy?

  • @clive573 It can be done with any color. It is just what you want it to look like in the end result. Always do a test panel before committing to a paying project.

  • @edhubbs was wanting to do my motorcycle in all marble, but didn't want it to be so dark. i like brighter colors. figured using a white base coat would do the trick. i'll give a try on a test panel. thanx for the speedy reply, wasnt expecting one within 2 min. lol appreciate all the vids. i'm learnin alot. they are well executed and don't leave out details, they are great. thanx alot man.

  • @clive573 I personally would use silver instead of white, but that is just me.LOL

  • Hi ed.

I'm new at this and was wondering; if i have a nice colour i mixed and want a candy version how do i make the candy colour?

I think I'm missing something simple.

By the way I think your video tutorials are second to none!

  • @drivinginfo The only way to get it even close to a candy is to use a pure toner, not a mixed color. Then over reduce it.

  • @edhubbs

    Thanks Ed

Finding it hard to get pure toner? no one in Ireland sells it for airbrushing.

I bought acrylic paint from a hobby shop and mixed with still water.

I'm only learning and hope I don't make a mess of my bike when I go at it.

  • @drivinginfo Make sure to spray a test panel before committing to your bike.

  • Ed, Thanks for the video's. I painted cars in a bodyshop for quite a few years, and as you know with bodyshops and insurance work, it's just your basic paint job. I've always wanted to learn custom work and have always been interested in it, but never really got the opportunity to do it. Now, 20 years later, and out of the bodyshop work, I'm finally learning the type of paint work I wanted to, thanks to your videos. Now just comes the practice, the goof ups, and the learning, but Wow, what fun!

  • @res076ep That is awesome, glad to hear you are having fun doing it.

  • man, not only do you have some great tuts and mad skillz, you have some good music to keep me from falling asleep haha

  • @leenstlouis HEY WAKE UP! LOL

  • @TheSugabear210 Transfer paper from coastairbrush(dot)com

  • @themosthated100 Nope, use what ever contrasting color that you want.

  • quick question.., whats the candy concentrate>?, i cant spray that directly can i , with jus say in some clearcoat., dont i have to get that mixed with like a binder and balancer so i wont get streaking.>?, what should i ask for when buying candy that ready to spray>?

  • sickkkk, thx for sharin., u say ur jus over reducing ur basecoat.,., great imma try it,

  • Hey Ed, thank you for all your videos which teach us precious things. I have a question: where did u get your hood? I mean I looked at Coast Airbrush but the one they got seems smaller than the one u show us here. Thanks for your answer and keep videos coming! Greetings from Belgium.

  • @vinybinder That one is from Sata

But I will have one similar for sale on coastairbrush(dot)com soon.

  • where do you get that skinny tape

  • @tman1223334444 it is 3M 1/8 inch fine line tape from coastairbrush(dot)com

  • i wonder if there is a way you could combine the wrinkle effect in combination with the snake skin effect, because the orange wrinkled line you did on that black sheet looked like the pattern of a snakes body.

  • @ylanglang1 I am sure that you could.

  • @FulldMoon2021 There ya go.

  • Merci!!!

  • THANK YOU!

  • @Yetimolog Your welcome.

  • @ljguy300 Your very welcome.

  • would this also work with Satin paints? i was thinking of using this effect on my car.

  • @CubanCannon Yes it will

  • If a metallic paint was used will the metallic pieces stick to the black base or will they lift off with the plastic? Same question if pearl was added instead of metallic. I am looking to use HOK Brilliant Silver Urethane Metallic Basecoat over black and then using a candy green over it all. Also can the same silver be used for the waterdrop effect? Your opinion is appreciated. This will be on a 1998 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 that the rear fender has been completely smoothed and all emblems removed.

  • Ed, you are a paint genius!!!!

  • @goodnamewasgone LOL Thanks man.

  • with using black as a backround

  • I have been looking for some car hoods like what you just painted. Could you tell me where you get them from an approx cost?

  • @little1angel I found them on the back cover of air brush action magazine in a SATA add.

  • @edhubbs cool thanks, going to break out the air brush action magazines! LOL

  • @little1angel Probably 4 to 5 years back. Call Coast Air Brush and ask them if you can't find them.

  • hehehe. When I saw that background on "Airbrushing Water Droplets" I was like " HOLY SHIT! THIS DUDE IS AMAZING! HOW THE HELL DID HE GET THE COORS LIGHT MOUNTAINS ON THERE!?!?!" lmao. Good job. ;)

  • What kind of tape is that? how does is curve so well?

  • @Diranasaur 3M 1/8 inch blue fine line tape from coastairbrush(dot)com

  • What is that sticky paper called you used to mask off the flames? Thanks in advance.

  • @KScharba Transfer paper from coastairbrush(dot)com

  • I had a question for you ed, How does this technique effect the texture of the hood? is the surface uneven? If so, does the clear coat alone fix it?

  • @Ultimabong I apply three coats of clear and then the next day sand it flat and reapply 2 more coats of clear. Then color sand and buff.

  • Got a lil question...

Can you go through this with an airbrush?

Thinking about doing this on the top of my pc case.

  • @Webgkil Yes you can.

  • what do you think the wrinkle effect method would cost with the blue candy and some lightning over the top of it? i want to do it with my 76 nova.

  • @12luney The entire car?

  • thats hot, but does this work on enameul paint as well?

  • @Bishop36122 I would think so.

  • Ed- Will this work with waterbase paint like auto air, or will that dry to fast?

  • @Rickmeister3030 I do not think so,I have not tryed it.

  • Simple, but super eye popping effective. I could stare at that all day.

  • @Trimere It can be a real eye catcher.

  • what kind of tape is he using in the begining?

  • @JADYONE 3M blue fine line tape

  • @JADYONE

    He is me.LOL

I use 1/8 inch blue fine line from 3M

  • @iTzUpRoAr Her's a vid of a hard hat i did with spray cans. Was white to start with. Al the credit goes to Ed and his videos.

  • Would ceran wrap work for the plastic? And would this work well on a semi smooth plastic surface? More specificly an xbox controller. Thanks for any help, ed.

Any suggestions on how to prevent over spray?

I am still new at this, having technical issues. Over spray, tape or frisket not sticking, or sticking too well, brush clogging, etc. Help!

  • What do you mean by over spray? Do you mean that you are not using good enough gun control?

  • Any ideas on how to clear coat a surfboard that's been hand painted? check out aj freeze . com to get an idea, I hand paint them in acrylic so glassing could melt it.... I really want that professional gloss of a surfboard but Krylon gloss leaves a terrible residue and is very streaky... any ideas? Besides having you gloss it for me? lol
