  • Chuck disliked this 8 times

  • @Tupac1524 Why ?

  • just a quick question, must you fall to take a charge?

  • @Strummify No but, you fall if he pushs you too hard, that's all

  • Um, either those 3 things or you could just go to Duke University and just have them called whether you know how to take one or not.

  • i wonder how he feels being in a J.Cole song lol

  • Pytanie do swoich (Polaków), bo ich tu najwięcej:

Czy obrońca musi przewrócić się żeby ten faul był odgwizdany?

  • best charge taker of all time.

  • type "short guy dunks" in the youtube search box to see a 5'5 guy dunking a 10ft hoop

  • i miss shane :( i'm glad he hit that clutch three today..he deserved it. he is such a classy guy.

  • this battier guy doesn't know what he talking about..the real genuis that should be telling you how its done is Mr flop himself Vlade Divac. now that man new how to fall and get those calls...

  • his ass must be strong from all the times he landed on it

  • Shane Battier could be wrestler telling us how to take a back bump

  • Shane Battier is one of my favorite players of all time and I bleed Tar Heel Blue.

  • Is there anyway that I could like injure my back severely from taking a charge because I take quite a lot of charges in highschool basketball and it hurts like hell when its against huge guys... I'm not really scared but i dont want to get severely injured...

  • @KB24mw2 It's like Shane said; if you SLIDE instead of just falling straight on your back, the worst thing that could happen is the guy you're tying to get the charge from falls on you, which normally won't be much anyways.

Your back shouldn't really even be a main point of concern as much as you want to make sure you stiffen your neck so you don't injure your head.

  • STEP 2 YOU MUST BE 6 FOOT 9 AND STEP 3 YOU MUST HAVE A BIG HEAD

  • @masterdelrap LOL, prolly the most stupid thing i heard this week

  • 2:31 he wasnt set at all

  • Fuck a Harvard degree. DUKE BABY!

  • every coachs would love to have shane in their teams.

  • STEP TWO YOU MUST BE 6 FOOT 9

  • @masterdelrap why?

  • @heatofthemoment123 CAUSE U DO

  • @masterdelrap well give me a real reason

  • @heatofthemoment123 YOU AINT 6 FOOT 9 YOU AINT GONA BE SHIT ON THE NBA MOST OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS ARE 6 FOOT 6 AND UP

  • ALL THE BASKETBALL PLAYERS SOUND STUPID BUT THIS BASKETBALL PLAYER WHICH I AGREE WITH QWENCY123 SOUNDS LIKE HE GOT A HARVARD DEGREE

  • Comment removed

  • Shane: *falls down after taking charge, grips head* Oh shit that hurt...

Pierce: *falls down, double take* Wtf?

  • Shane Battier..half black, half white = best of both worlds. Nuff said.

  • best on the ball defense in NBA.

  • @minotaurpl well those pussies are winning games

  • @minotaurpl Taking a Charge and steal leading alone lay up are the best defensive plays in a game. What taking a charge give to your team:Sure ball control and other team: Personal foul and a lot of bad momentum. How about the block. Theres chance that player fakes and you foul when you trying to block it, but if you do theres no guarnteed ball control and that can lead to easy basket for opponet. Mostly ball go out of bounds by blocker or your opponet gets it back...

  • honestly.. 2:42 is not a foul or even a charge.. Gordon had already beat battier and battier knew that he's already beaten thats y he's doin the charge thing..

  • @rapmili23 yeh massive batter fan here but that didnt look as if he was set. Block in my opinion

  • I love the charge... so much, my favourite move.

  • Will he try to take a charge from Dwight or Shaq? Because thats kind of life threatning

  • xTLBx, oftentimes I make myself to keep in mind just what it was like well before I was able to dunk the ball. Right after I followed the exercise program at | 50 inch vertical [dot] com | - my skills has been improving quickly - no longer am I on the bench every game!

NBA Fundamentals: Shane Battier - Taking a Charge

  • Rasheed Wallace- How to get technical foul

  • @raymondmendoza9595 hahahahaha

  • @raymondmendoza9595 bruce bower-flying kick lesson

  • would he take a charge on dwight or shaq?

    thats kinda life threatening

  • i hope hes better team right now iw would great if boston pick him instead of robinson

  • great

  • Cant play Defense.

  • i dont get the different at 1:13 the blocking foul and the charging foul

  • blocking foul is when you attemt to take charge but you fail and then you make foul.

  • join the club. me even

  • The difference is the half circle under the net if your foot is on the line or your in the half and you attempt a charge it will always be a blocking foul.

  • He saying even in a one step back it makes a big differince..

  • @RYANMOW

he's mentioning your positioning beneath the rim

if u are in the semicircle, or steppin on the line of the line, its blockin foul, becuz by NBA rule if you are inside the semicircle you are not supposed to be allowed to take the charge.

outside of it you can take charge anywhere.

  • taking a charge to me has always looked like those guys faking an injury in soccer... to get the penalty shot or flag...

  • shane battier is one of the nicest players on the league

  • Divac and Horry is the greatest flopper of all time.

  • Gino!!

  • "Most important thing is to protect yourself...for obvious reasons" at 1:37 lol

  • I wish I have a vagina when I'm taking a charge

  • anybody know what shoe he wears on the court, nikes or adidas?

  • battier > bowen

  • @IBeHatinOnU BY FAR

  • hahahhahaha 2:05. i like that joke on chuck i really hope he saw this

  • batty boy

  • haha

  • protect yourself. for obvious reasons. lol

  • lmao euphenism

  • Nicest guy u will ever find in the nba LOL

and best defender to defend kobe

  • ya, but still alot ppl say that he sucks at defending kobe. what the thing that these ppl doesn't know is that, compared to any other defender who defend kobe, he's the best already. kobe still could scores because he's too good, till the point that it is impossible to prevent him scoring completely.

  • yeee, when u have ur whole dam hand covering his whole face...wat else can u do more.if he scores then he scores, thats jus kobe being kobe.cant do shit bout it haha

  • You guys watch out for Battier this 09-10 season, this summer he prepared himself for this season by carrying boulders and logs up and down a mountainous country road near his Michigan home. He is ready to go, we need more offense from him this year and he knows it, so don't be surprised to see his offensive numbers rise this season, at least until McGrady comes back.

  • Student-athlete.

  • Shane, the best perimeter defender since Dennis Rodman

  • lmaooo u cud tell he from duke...he sound too propper lol well educated tho...cant hate on him if he gets injured he cud sitll make millions anywhere

  • 1:37 the most important thing is....

    SO COOL!

  • haha shane jokes about chuck too! i love charles barkley, but i also liek all the fat jokes aimed at him these days.

  • defense player ofe the year

  • smart move, good guy.

  • wtf does he say at 2:20??

  • with a thud

  • 2:20

did he say going down what the fuck?

  • i'm great at taking the charge and flopping.

when you play a lot of lot post positions on a 2-3 zone you see a familiar path guards like to take when the drive to the hole. then you see the same thing happen on a man-to-man game. i anticipate that same path and i almost always get a charge called.

the safest and most efficient way to take a charge is to cover your nuts and lead on your heels--gives it that emphasis for falling backwards

  • thhanks man

  • great great lesson, this is probely the best one in this series of nba fundeamentals

  • you also have to keep your head forward when you're taking the charge. if you move your head to the side during the charge, the refs will call a blocking foul instead.

  • one of the most intelligent player :)

  • Most important thing, protect yourself :D

  • one of the most intelligent players in the league.the way he plays the d.......just sick

  • 2:27 = hahahahaha

  • hahaahah hes so awkwardd...

  • talk about a lost art.

  • Lmao, 1:05 he's like "WTF.... who?"

  • if you really think about if, you can probably draw a charge half the time someone drives to the basket as long as you stop completely and flop when they touch you. the only thing is that people dont like falling on their booty... its embarrassing. and the ground is concrete outside =D

  • that doesn't even look close to a flop stupid.

  • 2 balls huge...... taking all those charges...

  • Shane is very articulate. He might have a future in broadcasting.

  • He'll be a great coach one day.

  • Hm. He sounds like a fairly classy guy. I mean he admits he's not a superstar... that's pretty cool in a league where every player thinks he's the greatest

  • This man shows so much class, walking away from fights, and just showing straight up sportsmanship.

  • go shane... a true b-baller dosent need to own all the stats..

  • Shane's a great defender....even though they lost, he still gave Kobe a run for his money. He was great! Love me some Shane!

  • Lakers fan here, who loves Shane. Most basketball players speak very UN-educated. He on the other hand, sounds like he has a Harvard degree.

  • Duke

  • Yea pretty close :)

  • @qwency123 dude went to duke, and was coached by coach K, nuff said....

  • I'm not to hot on the whole charge taker thing either. But nobody will think you're less of a man if you have the balls to take a charge w/ Lebron James driving to the hoop like some fucking 10 ton tank.

  • I love Shane the Brain...No Homo

  • Shane is funny man :D

  • shane battier is such a nice humble guy.he explained this very thouroughly

  • Thanks Shane, I will try it tomorrow night at the park's court.

  • hey, i think this only works on wooden floor, not concrete. heh.

  • lol protect yourself for obvious reasons

  • People seem to over look the fact he went to Duke where they take charges better than anyone.

  • actually a lot of those duke guys flop (greg paulus anyone?) but battier is as good at taking charges as anyone in the league...

  • yea i wonder why they flop

  • Taking Charge is a very impportant (maybe the most) part of defence

  • d-fish should be doing this lol

  • Shane Battier is in fact underrated, but he's also very humble and down to earth. Need more people like him in the NBA.

  • Yeap yeap. Totally agree. =D

" It's a real basketball play for those who can't jump... like the superstars... around the NBA. Hahahah. "

Truly humble and down to earth.

  • This totally doesnt work... Vince Carter is just gonna jump over you and DUNK lols!!

  • Most importantly, keep it safe.....for obvious resons. LOL

Battier is the best chrage taker ever. He also is clutch with threes like vs the Lakers.

  • we need to have manu or kirelenko to make a video to teach us how to flop like a superstar.

  • Keeping it rich. Keep Houston Rich.

  • WOO-HOO-HOO! damn Shane is such a beast on defense...

he shut down the best player in the NBA..

  • just because he draws a charge in no way means he has no integrity

  • wow youre a loser. Taking the charge is a part of the game and if you dont like it, dont play.

  • wow shane battier is so underrated, he can hit threes and play defense....wow :)

  • shane battier is a seriously underrated player and person.

  • your gay for sayin, thats the ignorant way to play basketball u idiot your obliviously high

  • ROFL, "for people who can't jump like the superstars, like me." lol

  • well nice video because this can make the difference between winning and losing, and this can really help. I've seen a lot of this in few games where a team is down by bucket and, cuz of this, the other team has the chance of either tied the game or win... nice fundamentals

  • He sounds like John Mayer when he talks.

  • great player

  • 学习了

  • man

  • Just wanna add that you should try to take the blow with your chest, if you do it with your shoulder a couple of times after eachother you're screwed.

  • "Protect yourself...for obvious reasons" xD

  • Thanks to this video , I becam a great charge taker ^^

  • charges dont hurt me unless its a drill partly because i end up with someone that likes to put there shoulder into it lol

  • Lol Shane is Hilarious

" Chuck if you're watching this, I know would be a very good charge taker. Now you'd be a good one" LOL!!!

  • is that novak with shane

  • lol 1:40 funny guy. :D

  • this is one of the many reasons y i hate spurs...they always hav som1 dats gd at dis...flopping

  • have you ever played basketball or you just watch

  • yh i play n i noe dat spurs r the dirtiest team in the league

  • well of course they are

i mean having a stupid flopper and a big baby like manu

and a dirty defender bruce bowen

then they have timmy tony parker god what a bunch of damn cheaters the spurs are

damn i think the nba should just take away all there championships

  • i noe dud ur the only person i met on utube dats smart lol

  • celtics were all about charging on 2008 finals.thats how they got all the fouls

  • thats all cool and all having courage i got that but im out the whole season cause i broke my chest (got the foul)

  • 0:43 is a blocking foul

  • if someone charges you but you dont fall, isit still a charge? cos i did exactly the same thing, but i fell like 2 seconds later. the ref did not call a charge. so i was puzzled.

  • haha battier how humble of you :D

  • nice thanks its all clear now

  • OWW!!

  • Those don't look like flops, if you're really taking a charge, your back hurts like shit.

  • True that

  • shane has god knows how many cuts on his head, taking charge takes some balls..

  • He said "fall over".

  • ROFL that would be so annoying to always have dudes jumping infront of u and drawing a charge XD this is a good video

  • i must of turned :43 back let 5 times that shit was funny

  • seriously ginobili should write a book on it

  • You would think that Ginobili would be teaching this instead.

  • i saw him playin when he played for the grizzlies

  • "Protect yourself, for obvious reasons" LMAO

  • did he just said he cant jump??

  • He the best defender in the league!

  • artest and shane equals champs

  • how is he gonna get minutes with mcgrady and artest?

  • He probably does not have as much of a scoring power and physical strength compared to artest, but i think he's slightly better in defense. So i guess artest will start and play for half of the game, while battier will oso have around 24 minutes on the court. Anyway, battier is such a nice guy to be with from the way he speaks. XD

  • i agree with that ,the only thing is artest gets in trouble, ALOT ,so i think he wont be playin as much time as he did with indiana

  • shane battier is a funny cool guy and he also is a good defensive player at times

  • so to take a charge, just be in front of the circle and let his shoulder's hit you? im gonna try it! (:

  • Their should've been a fundamental on "how to put a hand in the shooter's face". I've seen Battier do it so many times, and i laugh every time. Wonder why it hasn't been used much before.

  • I agree battier is underated but Bosh and boozer arent underated there allstars and there both on team usa. Im not saying there overated but they get the credit they deserve.
